Bonus Watch ’09: France

Zee frogs see your silly little proposed tax and say, “90%? You flaccid Americans! Try 100%.” Yes, mon chichis, dry your eyes ’cause it could be so much worse. The French government is apparently set to “issue a decree banning bonuses and share options for executives of banks that have received government aid,” to be adopted as early as next week. Presidential “official” Claude Gueant said in a statement that “Capitalism is there to enrich all the population and not just the bosses.”

    Viva la France!
Of course tax compliance in France has never been quite the same as it is in the US.

that statement might hold water if a) they worked and b) were capitalists

I think his statement would be correct if he replaced “Capitalism” with “Socialism.”
Otherwise I’m curious from which textbook he reads that leads him to make such a statement(translation error, perhaps?)

It is true that the US government is currently giving us a great lesson of what genuine capitalism is.

now now, don’t be jealous. socialism is obviously working for them:
    aircraft carriers, nukes, subs? check
    4 day work week? check
    non-shitty healthcare and retirement? check
    Mediterranean climate? check
    decent food? check
a lot of hot women who like to drink, smoke, and fuck? check
    sounds OK to me.
