Sitting with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown a little while ago, Obama reassured Americans that now is the time to buy stocks for the long-term. Excellent.

That's not calling the bottom. That's something retail brokers have to say many times during the day.
Looks like the headline writer doesn't care to read the article. Or is a NY Post alum.

And all you UWS folks know that you are responsible for Charlie Rangel, right? Funny to see people head to FL and OH to influence election outcomes but do nothing abt stuff in their own backyard.
Ahhhh, progressives. Teach the morons in the rest of the country who to vote for while producing such gems from your own district.

There isn't any real debate that republicans in general are white, hard working, responsible, entrepreneurial, trust worthy, good neighbors, and people who you want as your friends, your relatives, and in your neighborhoods. Democrats in general are black, mexican, white trash, lazy, looking for handouts, ready, willing, and able to destroy progress, socially draining, uneducated, and out to do whatever it takes to steal whatever they feel they deserve.
We can argue over the specifics and the politics all day long, but there isn't a man woman or child who doesn't know what I just said is in general, the absolute honest truth. You can almost look at someone and know instantly if they are a lowlife scumbag, or a republican you wouldn't have any fear of. Argue about it all day long, but you know these truths are why we will never compromise on values in America more than a few years as this socialist experiment destroys all it can.

I'm waiting for Hillary to weigh in. She was a really successful futures trader back in the day.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:05PM
Obama will be releasing a new statement soon. 95% of americans will not have any tax increases. The remaining 5% will be taxed at a 75% rate since it's time for them to take on some of the burden and spread some of that wealth.
This will need to a large market upswing.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:07PM
WOW I didnt think Obama even thought about the future given his tax increases and HUGE DEBT PROPOSAL. Forget the fact that AIG and GM will never be able to pay off the loans in the future either. Now Obama is giving us investment advise? Should we make those trades through the ACORN NATIONAL BANK? I would rather take the new Billion $$$ Vegas train from Disneyland and try to win back my money at the tables.
Obama is a schmuck.

So basically Obama wants everyone to be broke. Folks if you were smart enough to hold onto your money and not lose it in the greed infested market and were worried you might lose it in a Citibank saving account? Relax the bell tolls for thee. Obama is going to make you pay for the assholes who bought homes they couldnt afford anyway. He is going to tax you for it. Now we are all EQUALLY poor. When will we change the flag?
Obama shouldnt make too many upgrades to the White House he will only be there 4 years.

28, those events were the result of some misguided folks who actually thought that all the claims of fiscal responsibility, enacting paygo, uprooting the 'culture of corruption', killing pork etc etc were true.
Guess what? ALL lies. And it is starting to sink in. In one stroke the reamining strength of the market - utilities, pharma and healthcare were wiped out by the messiah last week.
Did you happen to read Brook's column in the NYT? See how Cramer went on and on about messiah proofing portfolios? These are just some of the more visible examples and these people spent the last year worshipping the messiah.
Why do you think is there so much fear of holding open elections for the vacant (well almost) IL senate seat? Got b*lls? Why are you so scared that you mite lose the messiah's seat if all was so hunky dory?

I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. There is some similarity b/t this and Bush's call to spend, spend, spend.
Except W created money and asked you to go spend a few bucks at Wal-mart and starbucks.
O is all rhetoric, telling everyone to double down on the market.
I'm missing the rationale: Have the wealthy reinvest into the market, pump the bubble back up and wait for the wealth effect to kick in? Did the underpants gnomes get a cabinet seat?

@41 - The headline says on Bloomberg says "Now MAY BE". EP's post reads that Obama said, "now IS the time". There's a difference. Bloomberg was at least making an attempt to be accurate... EP? Not so much.
@33 - You're dead wrong about the midterm flip. At that time, the issues most Americans were voting on were more driven by frustration about the course of ongoing activities in Iraq and spending gone crazy, mismanagement of Katrina/post-Katrina effort of the fraud/waste/abuse, and general wariness of the Rove-Rummy-Cheney triumvirate. Rumsfeld knew his days were numbered and his letter of resignation was on Pres Bush's desk the day after the election.
Pork is bipartisan. And if you think that PhRMA is going to stay silent while this budget moves through, think again. That is one of THE MOST POWERFUL lobbies in DC, and I would bet that they're already taking key members out to drinks and din-din to make sure that the current budget in its incarnation will not move through.
And by the way, I'm all for special elections for vacant seats. So save your got balls bullshit until you know what the argument is about.

Anyone buying FMX stock and or having anything to do with Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold should count themselves as baby killers, child molesters and rapists.
Do we need to buy the stock of a company that bribes and funds militaries that kill, molest children and rape helpless woman? Do we need to buy the stock of a company who dumps toxic pollutants all over the world and only partially cleans things up when they are forced to? Should we buy the stock of a company that layoff's thousands while the CEO continues to earn $70M++++ a year, three times as much as any other CEO?
It is time that we send companies like Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold, Phelps Dodge corporation a loud and clear message. If you are going to profit off of other peoples suffering, you better find your operating money from the devil, because we are not going to faces God's wrath from supporting your atrocities.
