So Rick Santelli was slated to appear on The Daily Show last night, to discuss the “riot” he incited last week. Unfortunately, Rickles chose to “bail” on the interview, which did not please Jon Stewart. Above, Stewie lets us know how he feels about the cancellation, which sort of snowballs into his thoughts on the biz “news” network in general. Didn’t see the Carl Quintanilla hit coming (especially when there are so many who are more deserving) but what can you do.

When will Santelli realize he has it backwards?

  2. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:26 AM

Santelli is a fucking punk. He’s a girl.

  3. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:27 AM

Of course, the liberal propaganda meister will feel miffed if his annointed one’s agenda is under question!
I have to hand it to this guy. He runs the single most subtle (and intelligent) propaganda show this side of Geobbels.

  4. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:30 AM

I love the daily show! The talking heads at CNBC are great material for mockery.

  5. Posted by The Rurbanite | March 5, 2009 at 9:33 AM

I love this show. Santelli reminds me of the kid talks shit when he’s with his boys, but as soon as you get him alone, he’s pissing his pants. He just got punk’d…… AGAIN by people who may not grasp finance, but who are far more intelligent, ARTICULATE and wealthier than he ever will be. I still can’t believe he blamed the “threats on his life” on his wife and kids. He’s human garbage.

  6. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:35 AM

@3 – how is speaking the truth – with evidence to back you up – considered a “propaganda show”? I would say half the programming on CNBC is more of a propaganda show than anything stewart does.

  7. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:38 AM

Colbert cleans his clock. Jon Stewart, been there done that.

  8. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:41 AM

    CNBC is intolerable after 9:00am.

  9. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:42 AM

Cramer is continuing the feud with the White House. I think they should have a walk-off.

  10. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:43 AM

    “Colbert cleans his clock.”
@7 – Me thinks you’ve got an extra L in that sentence somewhere. Please use spellcheck.

  11. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:45 AM

Look, John Stewart is just another liberal who collects a multi-million dollar paycheck and can afford to pay higher taxes. I would not give this guy the time of day if he asked me on the street. Just another whinny stereotype whose subtle form of leftist propaganda will be his undoing. I would rather have my legs broken then have to sit next to this guy on a 4 hour flight. He is an insect. I cannot believe people take him seriously.

  12. Posted by The Rurbanite | March 5, 2009 at 9:46 AM

@9- Why would anyone, who’s job is to gamble with money, feel the need to attack someone on gambling with people’s money? Cramer should give it up. It’s a losing battle for him. Everyone’s digging up his dirty laundry and it’s a hot mess!

  13. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:47 AM

@6: How about the fact that they kept showing the Dow fall THROUGH November.
How about the 2,800 points the index has lost since Stewart’s guy was elected president?
I’m not saying you lay all of that at Obama’s feet — but it does inform the criticism that Stewart and his show are one-sided propagandists.

  14. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:50 AM

@10 – which part of clock is spelt incorrectly?

  15. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:50 AM

@11 That’s hardly reasoned argument, now is it? People take him seriously because he doesn’t say silly things like “I would rather have my legs broken then have to sit next to this guy on a 4 hour flight” for a start…. You need to make a point for people to take you seriously; your post is just a little bit more bile.

I am very upset with how this country is going. If anyone dares to challenge the Saint’s policies they are ridiculed and lambasted by the likes of Stewart. He rips the likes of Rush Limbaugh, but in reality he is no different. Perhaps we should dust off our textbooks and see what it was like in 1933 in Germany before a little man with a funny mustache took the reins. There was little room for descent in that era. For 8 years these people bashed Bush and his policies incessantly, now when one person dares to challenge an Obama policy, he or she is challenged, insulted, and called un-American. I think the ghost of Joseph McCarthy is smiling right now.

  17. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:53 AM

@3 Shut the fuck up. We’re talking about The Daily Show, not the EIB network.

  22. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:58 AM

@16….check your textbook, there was a lot of room for descent in 1933 Germany

  23. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 9:59 AM

JS relies on fantastic hindsight. I give him style points though on the humor factor. But it’s easy to look back, compile clips, and rewrite history using a bullpen of writers.
How about making fun of these points: All the indices are down since O took office. Wealth (pensions, 401(k)s, foundations) is being destroyed by the minute.. an indication that O, while a much needed fresh face, hasn’t convinced the market of anything. Funny stuff. Why can’t we laugh at all the rah-rah speeches intended to calm fears (again, see my first point). That would be funny. Report on O and all of the monday morning quarterbacks. Hilarious.
Santelli has a good point although his delivery and employer’s credibility killed it: Why ignore/penalize the responsible Americans and throw bones to the flakes? Perhaps O is starting his campaign early?
O forgets about those of us that didn’t quit our jobs to flip condos. You’re welcome ding-dongs. I hope you enjoy my tax dollars. Slackers. Don’t bother with a Thank You card because I’d have to pay for the stamp.
And Colbert.. he makes JS look like a child. I’ve seen SC hold his own without a security blanket of writers. Reading the teleprompter. Impressive. Really.

    @24…but we’ve been so safe under Obama……

  25. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:02 AM

How many times do you think John Stewart was beat up on the playground in grade school? Face it the guy probably throws like a girl and was captain of the speech and debate team.
What a sissy! I think Rick Santelli could take him with two hands tied behind his back.
Wait- the sissies are running the White House now. They already took over the media and this blog.
C’mon I know most of you guys who watch John Stewart were thespians in high school and secretly wanted the football program to be dropped.
Well, I guess you are in control now. Ouch!

  26. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:03 AM

I can’t believe that people are calling a show on the COMEDY CHANNEL propaganda! It is a joke, not meant to be a news source. The irony is that “real news” is actually more of a joke that Stewart’s show.
Is he riding the left side of the street, yes, but Stewart does take shots at Obama.
@ 16….Now you get upset that nobody can challenge or criticize the executive branch? That’s the funniest thing I have ever heard. Where have you been from 2000-2008?

  27. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:05 AM

“@3 – how is speaking the truth – with evidence to back you up – considered a “propaganda show”? ”
Therein lies the subtlety. Stewart uses “evidence” in a very selective manner.

  28. Posted by Suits | March 5, 2009 at 10:05 AM

16 posts to bring up Nazis! Probably not a record, though.
Anyone who thinks Daily Show is “subtly” liberal is a moron. Normal people who watch it realize there’s a bias, but also are smart enough not to take it as legitimate news.
People are obviously allowed to speak out against Obama (side note: I’d like to thank the people using the term “Messiah” or “Saint”, as it makes it easier to pick out the wing nuts). Problem is, people who do so generally have view points which were roundly rejected in the last election. So what you’re really speaking out against is a democratic society. You’re upset that the majority are in control. You have no idea how much joy it is bringing me watching all of you squirm.
For the record I mostly agree with Santelli and thought the DS piece was overdone.

  29. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:06 AM

@22- My point exactly. Yes, there was just enough room for descent to stop what came next.

  30. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:08 AM

  33. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:13 AM

This clearly shows that we can apply Chomsky’s progaganda model to business news. In the propoganda model, Chomsky (along with Edward Herman) argues that pressure of the competitions facing media corporations (as with any company) plays a significant role in forming the content and quality of reporting. Invariably, news outlets report only or place greater emphasis on stories that the public wants to hear. Chomsky takes particular aim at the NYT. A large portion of its readership is what is often termed the “liberal elite.” The NYT often plays to the lowest common denominator, afraid to alienate to many readers. Though considered a liberal paper, the NYT by no means challenges the left to become more populist. Chomsky argues that since the NYT (along with a few other large publications) is the most widely read newspaper, it sets the tone for all other newspapers. “If its not in the NYT, its not newsworthy,” is the prevailing wisdom. The result is a media that reports lowest common denominator stories, marginalizing the minority with true grievances and sacrificing truth for readership.
CNBC is subject to this propoganda model. Furthermore, when people watch CNBC, they want to hear from the top people in business. They want to see Maria Baritoromo interviewing John Thain. However, in order to maintain access to such figures, CNBC best not challenge the status quo. This pressure along with that mentioned above limits the content on CNBC and forces a homogenation of opinion. This mechanism is a passive result of market selection and thus inevitable. Its unfortunate that people use the news to make investment decision while lacking a truly independent outlet for information.
See “Manufacturing Conset: The Political Economy of Mass Media” for a better and more thorough explanation.

  34. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:19 AM

    @27,
I’m not upset that nobody is challenging the executive branch. I’m pointing out that JS hasn’t had the balls to criticize O on the level he did with W, if at all. There is much material ripe for the picking. Admit it. Anyways, attacking W was too easy. The material wrote itself. That didn’t take too much thought, plus, it was safe.
Oh, and the ‘he’s only been in office for a couple of months. give him a break.’ argument won’t work. So don’t even try it. The easy days of being a Senator are over. He needs to get his Big Boy Pants out.
You are right though that the show is meant to be a joke, but you have to admit, it is routinely mistaken for news.

@6, Given that you are the primart target of the propaganda, it is not surprising that you react that way.
Hey, there are many people who also believe that Michael Moore is speaking the truth, backed up by ‘facts’. And it is not as if there are no ‘facts’ behind what Michael Moore does. It remains propaganda nonetheless.
If you take the blinders off then you will realize that though Stewart mocks both liberal and conservative agendas/personalities equally there is a very subtle difference.
When mocking things conservative the target is the message. He makes it a point to highlight any inherent inconsitencies in the message.
On the other hand, while mocking things liberal he lampoons the delivery or style behind the message but never the inherent logic or ideal.
It is is subtle and brilliant. But it is propaganda nonetheless.

36 Huh? He’s been in office a couple of months? Try 44 days. Do you really expect the new administration to undo 8 years of foolishness in less than 1.5 mos? We’ve learned that what little prosperity we saw during the Bush years was essentially a fraud – all built on a housing bubble. Similar to the Reagan prosperity that was built on a consumer credit bubble, which in turn burst during Bush I. You people should just go away and leave things to the adults.

the Republicans stole $3 trillion from corporate treasuries, and companies are failing as the accounting crimes are being uncovered. and, of course, the Republican criminals, and their lackeys like ‘Equity Private’, think they can cover their trail by blaming the black man. so typical for Republicans, who are the scum of the earth.

  46. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:34 AM

43 Who’s going to come along in 2012? Jindal? Palin? Gingrich? One sillier than the next. Your party is dying a slow death, largely from being out of touch. 1) I would take issue with your 60% statistic (its probably more like 40%) and 2) even if it was 60%, that’s not enough to win elections. And thankfully so for the rest of us hard working, honest earning intelligent folks.

but hold on here, if you take jon stewart seriously then there is something seriously wrong with you. he works on a network called COMEDY CENTRAL, he’s supposed to be a joke. it’s not supposed to be REALITY, it’s a comedy network.
much like this is a tabloid, and is here for amusement. (and the carl quintinilla jail comment, fucking priceless)

  50. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:39 AM

If you don’t want the comedians targeting you, don’t fuck up. Pretty simple to understand even for Republicans.
You can apologize to Rush online now, too!

  51. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:41 AM

Something being on Comedy Central does not preclude its being propaganda. Guess what have been one of the most utilized propaganda tools of regimes authoritarian as well as otherwise? Cartoons.
Also, having a political message is different from propaganda. South Park (love it) has a very strong libertarian bent but does not indulge in propaganda. That is not the case with the Daily Show.
Also, it is anything but a comedy show. ever noticed the interviews, especially when the guest is conservative? These are not Leno-esque ‘gee ha ha ha buy my book / see my movie’ interview. They are fairly intense and carried out with the intent of revealing some inconsistency in the guest’s worldview.

54 Oval office is in fact fair game. But not only 45 days into an administration that inherited problems that have not been seen since the 1930′s. Which explains why presidential approval ratings are currently so high. 52% voted for the guy, 70% approve: tells you Americans have adopted a charitible and optimistic wait and see attitude. Unlike the people here, who are mocking from behind the security of their keyboards. Silly girls that they are.

  55. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:47 AM

@48..Not really sure on how 60% cannot win an election. Obama cobbled together 54% of the “lost toys” and pulled off the victory. His herding of cats was brilliant and I hope the Republicans study his tactics. If they do not, they will surely mess up again in 2012.
Agreed Jindal, Palin, and Gingrich are yesterday’s news. But they make nice strawmen (okay, strawpeople) for you to pick on. I enjoy watching people who were picked on their whole lives trying to get the upper hand by picking out easy targets. You can do better. Get off the green run and start skiing on the black diamonds.
You can blame Bush all you want, but America has a short term memory and Obama wanted to lead and now he is waste deep and sinking faster.

  56. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 10:52 AM

The fact of the matter is that Stewart is an extremely intelligent and funny guy. That said, if the market declined during Bush’s term he would blame it on Bush but now that Barack is in office the r^2 is 0. That is just fact w/o political bias.

58 That 60% you cited represents essentially angry white guys. A declining demographic, which is why its not enough to win an election.
Re me using Jindal et al as straw men: not true. Steele would be a straw man, which is why I didn’t mention him. But Jindal, Palin and Gingrich are the great hope of your party. Which, combined with the demographics discussed above, is why the party is in trouble.

I saw Santelli’s rant, and agreed with it. I saw Stewart’s piece last night, and agreed with it. But let’s face the facts: Comedy Central AND CNBC are both comedy networks, making spectacularly ludicrous statements with stunning frequency. Stewart leans to the political, while CNBC leans to the financial, but both dabble in each others water from time to time.
I mean, everyone bashes CNBC here on a daily basis; did you think you had a monopoly on that? Of course Stewart was selective in his quotes – Cramer isn’t ALWAYS wrong, though he is frequently enough that fading him is profitable – but as he constantly points out, it’s the “fake news”. Laugh and move on, people.

It’s even more humorous that they’re complaining about $500 billion, as though the $10 trillion already covered and 8 years in the making never happened.
Fuck, at least if you’re going to bitch, bitch about something remotely logical.

If this helps your rebuttal, I am a member of the NRA, but I support Cap and Trade emissions credits and diplomatic relations with Cuba.
See, there are many angry white guys out there with Ivy League educations who lean progressive on many issues.
We are all around you and maybe even some of your closest friends.

#27, Nobody criticized the White House from 2009-2008? Huh? Welcome back to Earth. How were your travels?

  87. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 11:40 AM

@86 yes Stewart destroyed CNBC. Finally the 98 pound weakling kicked sand in 200 pound bully’s face. Although, he waited until the bully was asleep and then hit him in the back.
    Sissy!

  88. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 11:51 AM

  90. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 11:54 AM

Stewart is boring. Santelli rocks. Bush/Cheney was a disaster. Rosh is a fat drug-addled pig. Messiah = Jimmy Carter = one-term presidency.

  91. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 11:57 AM

79: Speak the truth to the filthy capitalist pigs! Soon America will be like Cuba and Venezuela.
We will break the opposition. All those who dare speak against us will be named and shamed, as it has been with Santelli and Cramer. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are accountable to all, and all are lead by him.

  92. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 11:57 AM

AP headline: “Obama says US must solve health care problems now”
I didn’t know there were any problems in the US. When did this happen?
Soo happy we have this magic fucker staying on top of these problems!

  93. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 11:57 AM

All this just goes to prove my theory:
    LIZ CLAMAN HAS GIANT CANS.

  94. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:01 PM

the problem with CNBC is that it remains an echo-chamber. they bring on CEOs, providing them with free adverstising while acting as though their comments provide any real insight into their company’s well-being. then they fill the other 98% of programming with analyst spots, which are largely opportunity for their team of morons to spout off on ideologies, largely the beef that most people should have with the channel. oh yeah, then throw in Charlie Gasparino to occasionally paint targets with half-ass*d journalism. the channel does not merely report on financial markets, it makes them worse.

  95. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:03 PM

88 Rather than you clinging to the angry white guy quip, I’d be more interested in hearing why you think Palin (she was the VP candidate, remember?), Jindal (he gave the rebuttal last week, remember?) and Gingrich (he’s the voice of the party) are straw men. I repeat: they’re collectively the best hope for your party. The fact that you’re so dismissive says something powerful.

  98. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:13 PM

To all you people comparing Jon Stewart to Limbaugh:
Yes, Jon is definitely Liberal. But he is also moderate in his criticism. He even gives reasons for what he says – heck, many times, he just shows the clip and lets the viewers decide! (Yes context has importance here, but compare that to what Limbaugh does!)
Jon’s show is satirical commentary. Limbaugh’s show claims to be “Actual” political commentary – he’s not comedy, by any definition. Saying things that are so extreme they are laughed at is NOT comedy – he lacks proper CONTEXT.
Seriously, isn’t it time the Limbaugh stuff ended and we got to ‘supporting our president in a time of crisis’? As Jon put it, is the only time to support our country ‘when the Republicans are in control’?

  99. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:16 PM

  101. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:23 PM

101 Good stuff there, but consider the Limbaugh demographic. He runs from noon to 3. I’ve listened (out of curiousity) and found a bunch of very weird people. Who else is home at noon? From the callers seems like a lot of angry elderly, disabled or unemployed, plus a big group of military and law enforcement retirees as well.

  102. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:29 PM

    @26, etc
I was on a Bowl-winning football team and I think the daily show is great (Colbert being superior though. my friends from that time would tend to agree.
I think there is a definate dichotomy between under/over 30 year olds in this country. i don’t know the demographics on DB, but reading nearly any other major news site’s comment leaves one with a different view on the current political atmoshpere. DB is a rather distinct outlier

  103. Posted by KevinB | March 5, 2009 at 12:30 PM

    This is @101, re-posting.
(I just read the rest of these responses.)
What a bunch of ignorant pigs. I refer of course, to the wingnuts, though I have less charitable descriptions. Especially those of you who are ‘real men’. Why don’t you just whip ‘em out and have a contest? I’ll be in another room, staying away from the insecurity.
Grow up, subhumans. The internet really brings out the best in mature adult discourse.
To sum up: if you have a better solution, get a job, get a TV show, or get elected, and make it happen. Otherwise, quitcherbitchin’ and STFU.

As much as i am a devote viewer of CNBC, I cant help but chuckle and think of that Daily Show piece as ‘Classic’!
loved how Stewart blew everyone up everyone ESPECIALLY Maria.
thank God he didn’t touch Erin.
cant help but think though how much was Viacom’s inclusion in all this. they dont have a finance network. they do have MTV but that network is not valuable anymore.
FINALLY, dont you think the ‘losers’ who are losing their homes were SCREWED by the lenders?????
p.s. – ERIN BURNETT IS THE FUTURE OF NBC NEWS!

  106. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:44 PM

@105 Yeah, I agree, Colbert is superior, but it’s very different. I hope that guy takes care of himself. It’s a lot harder to play a diametrically opposed persona to your own character 99% of the time on that show than what Jon does.
I was quite bummed when he had “Papa Bear” Bill O’Reilly on his show and Bill denied that he actually was being honest on his show. He deflated Stephen’s whole point by lying to him. Sucked.
I think the funniest part of all is that he gets a lot of letters from people who believe the character he plays is REAL.

  107. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:50 PM

I’m a huge seller of anyone at CNBC, Burnett included. I’m not sure her rise to the top really suggests much about her as much as its largely a commentary on her competition. Not that it takes much to head up NBC News (just be an empty suit with a pretty face), but I would not assume she stacks up nearly as well when you broaden the competition. She’s largely the resident girl scout, trying to stay in the good-graces with those that cut the checks while advancing her master’s political agenda along the way. That’s what’s so funny about “Rick’s Revolution” (as they called it on CNBC)… it would not have gathered much support anywhere but the fertile backdrop of CNBC (they were playing his clip every 20 seconds, or so it seemed, for a few days). In this sense, they are news creators as much as anything else, which is incredibly dangerous when you consider real money is sometimes involved (eg- Gasparino going after GS for their private meeting, post-Obama housing announcement)…. for the sake of everyone’s portfolio, CNBC needs to be shut down!

  108. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 12:52 PM

    @109
    105 here
my old roommate thought he was a hardcore conservative and even bought his book. only when i showed him a news article where colbert was out of character saying he tends Democrat did he begin to doubt, but even then he thought he was still primarily conservative

  114. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 2:28 PM

Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz….just keep saying that.
At least Rush Limbaugh stuck with his goofy and ethnic name.
Having a name like John Stewart makes it much easier to get in a country club in Greenwich. Why else would you change your name?

  115. Posted by chernevik | March 5, 2009 at 2:35 PM

Santelli and CNBC deserved every second. “The Daily Show” is under tight time pressure, and you CANNOT cancel on them with only 120 hours notice. Hell, script approvals from the Obama people take at least 48 hours.
And why would Santelli avoid someone so fairminded? Despite Santelli’s outrageous provocation, Stewart’s discussion is a model of balance. Not a single clip taken out of context! The handling of Santelli’s criticism of _every_ bailout to be particularly high-minded. And Stewart took exquisite pains to note that Santelli subsequently regretted the word “loser”.
We haven’t seen such devoted attention to fairness since “Crossfire”. Stewart’s originality, fairness and wit are emblematic of progressivism’s openminded humanity.

  116. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 2:38 PM

@117… no small number of people in the entertainment business that are advised to change their name by their representatives. not exactly sure how you’re making this an issue. is there anything factually incorrect that you’ve found in his commentary? sure, Stewart’s comedy stems from his opinions. however, unlike Limbaugh, Stewart is not trying to pass his opinions along as facts…

ironic how greenberg has the audacity to sue aig for artificially inflating the stock price but basically did the same thing when he was the head of aig by threating to take his stock elsewhere if the specialist didnt take positions way and above what their responsibilities called for. this caused millions of dollars in losses to their employees so maybe they should sue greenberg.it was basically extortion which the head of the nyse knew about. Disgusting !!!!

  121. Posted by guest | March 5, 2009 at 2:48 PM

  135. Posted by BlackSwan06 | March 5, 2009 at 10:30 PM

Santelli is pure astroturf, and his job is to perpetuate his own brand. That’s it. I look forward to his actually concocting an original thought.
    @ Trojan – I concur.
@ 134 – If anything, he went FROM Barry (very common) to Barack (not common) later in life, and Barry would have sold a lot better than Barack in certain parts of the US as he embarked on the political track… Speaking of name-changing, did you know that Bobby Jindal was not born Robert, but PIYUSH? If you want to accuse political figures of selective name dropping to avoid negative ethnic associations/hide ethnicity, you might start there.

Of course these shows aren’t news. However, they are effective propaganda. Stewart and Colbert seem to be part of a coordinated program of character assassination targeted at “enemies” of the O. administration, all of whom are critical of their policies. But this will backfire, and may already be undermining public perception of the admin.

Please, please, please. It’s bad enough when someone brings up Hitler, but then he/she can’t even spell “dissent.” And then comments on the comment don’t even bother to correct the spelling. Also, in a later comment, it’s “propaganda,” not “propoganda.”
As Jon Stewart has so often pointed out himself, he’s a comedian, doing the “fake news.” And like the best of fools, he provides insight into the workings of our world, insights which often make us squirm. His take on the financial gurus was spot on. It’s apparent that they didn’t (and don’t) have the vaguest idea about what the “market” is doing. They’ve been spinning stories, along with Madoff and Stanford and the “banksters,” and asking us to trust them with their schtick, in much the same way that the Bush administration asked us to trust them as they tried to dismantle the Constitution and run an illegal and immoral war (and hide the cost of our “investment” in another country’s “democracy”)and bring the economy of this country to its knees.
As for Santelli, when you are an ass, and a headline-grubbing and disingenuous one to boot, there is absolutely no doubt that Jon Stewart is going to call you out. It’s what he does best, root out the hypocrisy and the venality that characterize so many of the players in the debacle that is the financial crisis in this country.

  149. Posted by guest | March 7, 2009 at 8:01 PM

    Santelli is pure lying SCUM…

  150. Posted by guest | March 8, 2009 at 8:26 PM

It’s important to consider people’s motivations:
    1) Only 1/3 of Americans can name the 3 branches of government, so 2/3 of the posters here are trying to sound smarter than they are…
    2) John Stewart’s motivation is to find hypocritical inconsistencies and make snarky remarks about them; That’s how he increases his ratings.
    3) CNBC’s motivation is to try to convince viewers they have the answers when no one has the answers (hence their inconsistencies)

  151. Posted by guest | March 9, 2009 at 10:03 AM

Jon Leibowitz’s job is really rather simple: Make fun of other people’s original ideas.
    That’s it.
Though I will say I am curious as to what his writers will do for material now that GWB is out of office. Lord help us if they try to say anything at all snarky about the current President.
