In the meantime, I'd like to pass on a stock tip from a source of mine. While I don't usually make stock recommendations, and I'm certainly not recommending this one, it's worth noting that one of the hottest stocks amid the economic misery we've been experiencing goes under the symbol SWHC, or gun maker Smith & Wesson Holdings Corp. It's up around 70 percent, and at least in my mind, this isn't the flight-to-quality the markets need.

He's making his Equinox Steam Room eyes at me. You had me at "Take your towel off", Mr. Gaspasteamy.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:22PM
Tell me are you feeling lucky punk....
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:23PM
I was in the bathroom taking a dump and CG came in and asked me for the latest scoop.

I figured he'd recommend Erin Burnett's new guns

Guns? Methinks the source at the gym was talking about biceps not S&W.
Posted by Anal_yst , Mar 03, 2009 1:28PM
"...up 70%..." Or its down ~80% in the past year, but whatever, I realize things like "math" and "numbers" have no place in the Gasparino School of Investing.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:30PM
Mr. Gaspasteamy, what are you doing here? I think its Equinox policy to where a towel. Where is yours and why are you looking at me like that? I am not comfortable with this. Where did everyone else go? Are we alone in here? Oh sweet baby jesus, not like this...

When guns are outlawed, only investment bankers will have guns.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:34PM
This isn't a stock tip.
This is CG letting Bill O'Reilly and the other Newscorp cronies to lay off the GE bashing cause he knows some guys that know some guys.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:38PM
I know this is going to sound ridiculous but it is true.
Our redneck brothers in the south and survivalists sprinkled all across this great land have been stocking up on guns and ammo in anticipation of Obama trying to pry their guns from their cold dead fingers.
Look, I am just passing it on. I can't help it if half the people in this country are inbred, mouthbreathing, knuckle dragging halfwit morons.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:38PM
@2/9 WTF?
Why does the IQ of the average poster go down whenever we have one of these CG threads?
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:38PM
I don't get the whole "steam room" thing. Did something really happen or is this just tomfoolery?
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:42PM
@13 so true. have friends in tejas, and they explained (through grunts and spasms) they had bought (more) guns so that when obama came to redistribute their wealth they'd have an answer. no bullshit.
@15 you must not work out at equinox.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:44PM
@15- it's one poster, who spams the comments writing variations on having seen CG at equinox. it wasn't funny the first time, or the 838th time, and yet s/he persists.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:46PM
@13
1. Leave the folks at BAC alone.
2. It's not about Obama, it's about the tasty goodness of free range acorn-fed squirrel meat

@8. Has anyone else looked at the SWHC graph? Its down from a high of about $21 in 2007 and is trading at about $3.5. Where is Chucky getting +70%?
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:49PM
@13 - when they come for you that decision not to buy a gun will be your downfall.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 1:50PM
@13 Everyone hates a redneck until their car breaks down on the side of the road.
@16 Before you make fun of Southerners learn to spell check.
P.S. Women from the South are much hotter than Northern hags.

@13, There is almost no ammo available anymore. If you visit ammoman.com and click 223 ammo, there is about 10 - 1 ratio of out of stock to in stock supply's.
The US rednecks of the world appear to be getting tired of bankers and Washington using the US Taxpayer as a source to monetize the profits but socialize the losses.
In 1869, the masses marched on wall street, grabbed 4 bankers and hung them on Wall Street by the neck until they were dead. The average citizen of the US appears to be sick and tired of being fucked and told to take it.
A modern version of a revolution is brewing. If you don't see it coming, you where probably long banks in 08.

I think the mood in the comments today is the result of CNBC folk being nearly panicked and hysterical today in their general comments and questions.
CNBC hit a new low today with their wolfpack attitude. But, they still aren't as awful as Fox.

@16 @ 22 here, "have friends in tejas" I think you meant Texas. And you think I sleep with my sister, typical Northern liberal thinking, she is my cousin.
Enjoy the cold jackass.

I don't need guns because I rely on government to take care of me, and my fellow man to be rational and respectful in good or bad times.
As long as we all rely on others, everything will be fine and all you gun nuts can sell them and join the rest of us in utopia society.

@13 and 16...The Harvard Educated Idiots have gotten us into this mess. So who is the halfwit you fuckhead. Now they are dragging their nuckles accross the trading room floors and the halls of the highest offices in the land blindly trying to get us out of this mess. When the paper world you live in collapses I guarantee your wife will be wishing she had married a real man.
There will be carnage. I did not used to believe it, but, I do now. Obama is pushing us towards it. Get ready.

Gun sales up 20%. Penis enlargement surgeries are down 20%. It is one or the other boys.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 2:33PM
@47:
You don't know the half of it. I tried ordering a new AR-15 a couple of weeks ago and was shocked to learn that every AR manufacturer in the U.S. has a backlog of between 6-18 months on the delivery of new ARs....
Because of the threat of a renewal of the old "cosmetic gun ban" people are making a smart move, as speculators, and are purchasing loads of AR-15s in the hopes that another ban will be put in place and the value of those guns will go up 100% or more as they will have to be grandfathered since people already own them.
Prices on existing ARs are already up by 75% in a lot of places...
The irony for the anti-gun nuts is that because of even the hint of a new ban, there are now going to be hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of new AR-15s in the U.S. over the course of the next few years.

BTW - troglodyte - fucking beautiful.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 2:44PM
Q: why do a large % of Southerners own guns? having lived in various large non-Southern cities in the U.S. over the years, the only person i knew who might have had one was a part-time weed/coke dealer. does the south suffer from more violent crime, gang violence, or is it just racial tensions? rebel thang?
- non-liberal, 30
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 2:45PM
"classic liberal debate - personal attack, works every time."
Was that supposed to be a joke? The GOP has historically been the party of personal attacks. Now, more than ever.

@25, I just got your hood and cape back from the cleaners for tomorrow's Klan rally. looking forward to your opening remarks right after Mr Limbaugh ... i mean the grand master is finsihed speaking.
and you think this is a socialist experiment? we've been living a socialist reality (in a capitalist dream) for the past 80+ years. In a real capitalist society the banks would have been left to fail no matter how big. but since so many politicians have their money tied up in these institutions they see fit to pump them full of borrowed money that no one has any intention of paying back.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 2:47PM
@58 -- Exactly.
Posted by guest , Mar 03, 2009 3:06PM
@31, why would the populace revolt? Whatever they want, they get.
They want more credit, we give them credit cards. They don't even have to be working (college kids, unemployed, whatever).
They want homes, they don't even have to tell us how much they make, if at all! We'll still give it to them.
They want cheap stuff, we give them Wal-Mart. We even add a bright, yellow, smiley face to make them feel good after their purchases of chinese made goods.
And when they are done robbing and stealing, they can pay us back (through bailouts, taxes, etc) after we go bankrupt.
Sounds like a deal to me.

@60 - because we don't trust big gubmnt so much. I don't care much about handguns, but when the revolution comes, me & my trusty long guns will be feeding my family. That's 2-3 weeks of meat for about $2.00. Stockpiling seed corn, too...

http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/03/large_stash_of_guns_removed_fr.html
"A small army of plainclothes and undercover police officers armed with a search warrant descended on the 864 Jewett Ave. home of Gary Granato, 54, this morning. Inside the Westerleigh residence, they found close to 80 firearms, and a hefty stash of ammo, authorities said."
Posted by guest , Mar 04, 2009 2:24AM
I buy guns because I'm not a feminized pussy and I enjoy shooting things. Clay pigeons for the most part, occasionally some birds. I aspire to a Dick Cheney style lawyer hunt.
Posted by guest , Mar 04, 2009 8:45AM
Conservative chicken littles buying guns worried about Obama coming to disarm them is much like liberal ones worried about Bush coming to take their abortions away. Interestingly, it is fringe conservative but mainstream liberal behavior.
You should own a gun so you never have to beg someone for your family's lives on the off chance someone tries to harm you. Like it or not it happens.
