Bush had his first out-of-office speaking engagement today at lunch here in Calgary. Gaggles of older businessmen in pin-striped suits and sporting beaming smiles were practically jizzing on each other in the various walkways afterward. Police shut down a whole block in the Kensington district last night so 43 could have a plate of pasta and some fruit salad.

@11, isn’t Calgary GMT-7? Not sure if it’s quite beer o’clock my friend. Another hour or so and you can go play the looney game though, deal?

  13. Posted by guest | March 17, 2009 at 6:50 PM

@8 – I had the same reaction. How the frig do you kill your self on a Bunny Slope? Pretty embarrasing. At least Sonny Bono did it on a black diamond.

  14. Posted by guest | March 17, 2009 at 6:53 PM

In 6 months bankers will still be making next to nothing, the economy will still suck ass and BO will need to find a new scapegoat.

  15. Posted by guest | March 17, 2009 at 6:54 PM

@ 8 – What the heck? They’re bringing her back to NY to die? Sounds like she must have had an AVM that ruptured and caused her to fall in the first place.

Corzine waited for his MOT Fuld to hide all his assets with his wife, including a $13 million home, before getting the “all clear’ and filing suit against an empty suit.

Fifty bucks says Geithner says the bonuses were the fault of Turbo Tax.

  31. Posted by guest | March 17, 2009 at 9:12 PM

It took the National Review to uncover why the bonuses are being handed out!
And guess who inserted this last minute? Chris Dodd – the man who was the biggest recipient of AIG cash.

“Here is the loophole, from the section of the stimulus package that deals with compensation rules for TARP recipients:
The prohibition required under clause (i) shall not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required to be paid pursuant to a written employment contract executed on or before February 11, 2009, as such valid employment contracts are determined by the Secretary or the designee of the Secretary.
Frankly, it’s hard to imagine how the government could prevent such contracts from being honored. But the presence of this loophole, in black and white, certainly gives the lie to all of this phony outrage — by the senator who created the loophole, by the president who signed it into law, and by everyone else who voted for the stimulus package.”

TGFD is visiting tonite to remind you all of something.
Back last March, when I first found DB, a lot of the chatter here had to do with all the money being made on Wall Street and with the “bottles & models” lifestyle that seemed to fascinate so many of you.
Well, a lot has changed in a year.
By the time we get past this AIG and TARP firms bonus taxation, and when this miserable thing called “The Credit Crisis” finally gets resolved, we will probably be living in a 2nd-rate nation. Obama will have become a near dictator, and this country will be f*ked much worse than it is now.
I keep thinking that Wall St had the heaviest hand in creating the mess. The aftermath is only what Wall Streeters did to themselves. Too bad the rest of us are getting f*ked too.

    Senate Dodd, Chris $103,100
    Senate Obama, Barack $101,332
    Senate McCain, John $59,499
    Senate Clinton, Hillary $35,965
    Senate Baucus, Max $24,750
    Presidential Romney, Mitt $20,850
Senate Biden, Joseph R Jr $19,975

Sen Chris Dodd also received $79,800 during the 2006 cycle.

CS – did you go to the speech?
I went (after an 1 1/2 waiting to get thru security).
    Highlights:
In reference to Bernanke and Paulson asking for the TARP funds he said that if they didn’t get the money “this depression would become a great depression”.
In reference to Beranke’s media blitz during the last week he said that his timeline for recovery is “optimistic”.
IMHO he was horrible president. But today he was an engaging, charming, very funny speaker. He even joked about his VP shooting someone.

We’re not paying bonuses, we’re paying AIG to stop doing what they’ve been doing (lose money). If it makes it easier, don’t think of it as a bonus, think of it as a bribe.

@40, it’s definitely real, cnbc comprised of flipping clowns.
what the ‘tard cnbc writer fails to get is that this little financial war we’re fighting is very real, wheres the “war on terror” was a FUCKING CONCEPT.

    Hey Mr. Bozzo from CNBC…
“The only flaw with this plan is that if these (AIG Special Products bonus) guys are in Gitmo doing hard time, instead of back home unwinding derivatives deals, then it might take us much longer to get AIG back on its feet.”
You obviously don’t realize that those “guys” don’t have a f’n clue when it comes to “unwinding derivatives deals”. They might as well be in Gitmo for all good they could do.

I got this idea from the article about Corzine suing Lehman Bros officials:
I think we should use “breach of fiduciary duty” as another reason to get back the AIG bonus money from the AIG derivativsters.

Can somebody explain to me why Ruth still HAS a Palm Beach home to “declare as her main residence”? Shouldn’t it at least be frozen, like her other assets, all padlocked up by the feds, like her bank and brokerage accounts?

  47. Posted by guest | March 18, 2009 at 11:58 AM

    @34-
I didn’t go, but I know about a half-dozen who were there, including a few acquaintances who attended the pre-lunch meet-and-greet.
The comments I heard afterward were similar to yours.
