41 Wake up. He may be old school and a gentleman, but if he’s so intelligent how did he manage to drive CIT off a cliff? Part of the problem is that CIT was basic industrial finance and good at it too. He tried to tart them up, make em more like the places he came from (maybe to look and feel better among his peers on the “generous philanthropy” circuit?) and in the end failed miserably.

I have known the Peeks for years. He is, indeed, an old school gentleman, extremely intelligent and not at all self promoting. His wife, Liz, is far from “dumb” is a very generous philanthropist, was a first class analyst at Wertheim, and can write on just about any subject. All she can be accused of is writing a piece that is, perhaps, untimely and unwise.

a) Living in northern Delaware’s “Chateau Country” is not at all unpleasant. Very genteel here, and for the most part, the chicks are all “pink & green”. I don’t often leave my zip code because many parts of the state are for shit, and I don’t really want to look at them.
b) I disclosed my age on DB a year or so ago, so for many DB trolls, TGFD’s age is not really news. Being 60 isn’t all that bad either. I don’t feel it, I don’t think or behave like it, and most people say I don’t look it. Chicks of all ages seem to be attracted to TGFD as well, and I do like that. I try to keep somewhat active, don’t drink, and I try not to eat the way I did when I was 20. Other than that, TGFD’s no so different from you.
c) I like DB. I’ve learned a lot here, and I enjoy the “financial gossip” that DB delivers so well. TGFD likes crazy. TGFD likes wierd. Liking those things probably has a lot to do with my ability to get along well with most people. Everybody has issues. They make people interesting to TGFD.

p.s. DB may be a “financial gossip” source, but TGFD never, ever gossips in my personal life. Doing that will earn one a bad reputation that never goes away.

@TGFD, I always thought you were a weird dude because you’re from Delaware, but then you dropped that truth-bomb on us a few days ago and disclosed that you were, in fact, 60, and now I just can’t get it out of my head becauase I can’t picture myself a) living in Delaware, b) being 60, and c) posting on DB– simultaneously. But at least it does explain a lot.

So let’s all get into the way-back machine, Merrill Lynch style. Dave Komansky picked Stan O’Neal. Who did Dave Komansky pass over to be CEO? Herb Alison–who was President (he who is now running TARP after being the gov’t pick to take over Fannie Mae–viewed as one of the good guys and saviors in this crisis. Now Herb is about 65-66 years old and only now reaching retirement age at Merrill. THUS if the board had picked Herb, it’s very possible he’d have been there through this year or last. No O’Neal, no Thain. The irony of it all.
