The Original

Well, if the details interest you, Chrysler’s petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court of Southern New York is an entertaining start. Our favorite section in these cases has to be the list of creditors holding the 50 largest unsecured claims. Woops.

well, a lot of trade creditors (parts suppliers) are going to get boned big time. largest unsecured is just over 70 mill — not a big deal macro-wise, probably fatal for that outfit.

Why did GM trade up today? Why are people buying GM stock?
Does anyone really believe GM won’t follow Chrysler down this route?

I find interesting that coming in #2 is BBDO, their advertising agency, which is a sub of Omnicom (NYSC: OMC). Hope that bad debt is reserved. The others are not so surprising: a diverse group of metal benders.

@3: Um….it’s called a “pairs trade” or spread where all the hedge fund geniuses buy one stock and short another, or a commodity, or real estate or elephant testicles or somesuch.
Today they were buying GM and shorting jellyfish testicles I am told.

The biggest suppliers will probably pull through, but the medium / smaller ones on this list will get absolutley hosed. $50M is no big deal for JCI, but $20M for a smaller player is crippling.

Curiously absent from the creditors list was a little outfit out of Sandusky, Ohio…Callahan Auto. You remember Big Tom Callahan right?

Curious. I wonder why Chrysler owes Wackenhut (#31, p.18). Perhaps a prepackaged hiring of goons to beat the UAW should the worst come to pass?
    Oh, wait.
