Rofl, I forgot looking things up on dictionary.com make you a scholar. The bomb was real, and while the guy who talked about it detonating was confused, it was infact detonated 4 times. Police have a method of dismantling or testing the bomb by blowing parts of it up and hopes of dismantling or destruction. So the police detonated the package 4 times with their own explosives, the bomb never went off. So before you go around wasting anymore time posting ignorant definitions, maybe you should read into what someone is actually saying first.
@8 - got the definition for the benefit of @5 who clearly stated: "It detonated 4 times" (reading is fundamental, perhaps writing is too). if you would like to come to his/her aid, then you would be well served to read said post. while your explanation is the correct one, it is ex post facto. no one was claiming to be a scholar - simply responding to the information as provided by 5. back to gawker...
Sigh... while my point may have been ex post facto, you continue to look more ignorant with your rebuttal. http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2009/04/07/news/040809szbankbomb.txt go read how even the news quotes it in the same context our other friend has. And if we take your definition - to explode with sudden violence, what 5 says is still correct. The package did explode with sudden violence 4 times, before they were able to determine that it was not a bomb. If the definition read to explode with sudden violence to point of destruction, you would be able to make fun of 5 for infact being an @ssclown. All I wish to know now is what lovely state do they teach you to be so ignorant and group a state full of people with one person?
@13 - "only because I'm bored at work": slow sales today at walmart?
nice of you to post a link from such a reputable source - do they even teach proper grammar in ar? as I said before you and @5 are a couple of “ignorant” @$$clowns who should keep to yourselves on yahoo. and if you had been reading this site for more than 20 minutes, you would know that I live in nyc.
haha 14 being from NE, I should have figured only assholes live in NYC. But your big city mentality, is that people from arkansas are @$$clowns for using words and sentences that you don't understand correctly. I guess since it came from a local news source it's discredited, but thinking that only shows your stupidity and closed-mindedness. I'd continue on, but you've not refuted any arguments just come back with your "i'm from a big city, i'm more important." I'm surprised you were even able to make a wal-mart/arkansas connection. Good for you. My point being, the word is used correctly and you still continue to prove that you do not understand the context of a sentence. Thanks for making today entertaining though.
cluz: I saw my first episode of 30 Rock over the weekend. The vision I have of you is exactly like the black prepster guy in the writing pool who keeps talking about going to Harvard. Am I close?
@15 - your inferiority complex is amusing. further, your assumption that I think people from small towns is asinine (esp. since I'm from tx nitwit). perhaps you should try reading a book - it will help you understand how to use words properly:
as for discrediting the local news source, no. however, I wouldn’t stand by them as the “gold standard” for english. what would you like to wager that today’s “paper” has multiple stories with improper language usage?
Perhaps you should stick to news in your area. Being as closed minded as you are, everyone is better served by you leaving your ignorance, assumptions, arrogance, and stereotypes to yourself. I've been in the NWA area for almost four years now. I'm originally from a very large city, and I have two college degrees. I can honestly say, having lived both places and experienced them both fully, that NWA is a much cleaner, safer, kinder, economically stable, moralistic place to live than NYC. While the grammar here might not be perfect, the people prove to be honest, sincere, genuine and caring. They are the kind of people who will stick up for a stranger who is being bullied by a relentless, self absorbed, low life with nothing better to do with his time than seek out people to insult and berate to make himself feel better. Now, Mr. Educated... that is psych 101.
@16 - don't watch 30 rock (but hear it's funny). secondly, why would I talk about going to harvard when I write recommendations for my analysts who want to go there?
@ 17 Inferiority complex to a random guy who posts on a site that i've never heard of. Right. Also when did Texas become a small town? Last time I checked it was a state. Maybe you should pick up a geology book. As for the news source, right it may be subject to some english errors, but go find me one full edition of the Times(thats a NYC paper) that has no errors. All of your arguments have been terrible, and you continue to prove what everyone else already thinks. The funny difference between you and me, is this is my first time on this sight, and i'm just getting kicks from your retarded responses, whereas you're a frequent visitor, who takes probably most of what you post seriously.
Being an educated man, which you claim to be, you should admit that you were wrong and move on. But I think you're trying to show everyone how ignorant you are, in which case i'm sure you'll post again and do a slendid job.
@18 - ever hear of columbine high school? oh, the big city...sooooo scary, not safe. c'mon (wo)man, the big screen is not real life - I'm sorry you're still scarred by the movie kids from back in the 90's.

Too poor to live in NYC??? Honey, I CHOOSE where I live based on the quality of life. I choose it because it's safer for my children, the air is clean to breath, and the views of nature are breathtaking. (I, personally, happen to appreciate God's creations) I lived in NYC for several years, and still have property there. You are a little quick to make assupmtions, aren't you? No, my degrees are NOT in psychology. (Again, another one of your assumptions) However, my father was a very prominent psychiatrist in his time who owned and operated several psychiatric and drug rehab hospitals. So, yes, I know a few things about personality disorders. My degrees happen to be International Business with a minor in Mandarin language, and the second in Finance with a minor in Human Resources. They serve me both well. You might also note that one of them is from NYU.
Whether or not a city is safe has nothing to do with its size. Again, you make assumptions about my reasoning. My conclusions are reached on by statistics. My statistics are on a per capita basis. I do my research before I move somewhere. I spent several years in the New Orleans area prior to hurricane Katrina, and crime there (while it IS smaller than NYC) is much more prevalent per capita. This totally discredits your assumptions.
@26 - please stop you're embarrassing yourself. I'm not sure where you get your information, but the crime data clearly shows that louisiana and tennessee have the highest per capita crime rates.
perhaps you were looking at a specific crime? or maybe you didn’t really check the numbers – do tell (at least you made it sound like you made logical decision). maybe if you had moved to nh, me, or sd your argument would have held water (for the record, ne is right at the median per capita crime rate). back to yahoo finance.
Good God, are you slow??? I just said New Orleans is a smaller town than NYC and its crime rates are higher per capita!!!!
and I quote..." I spent several years in the New Orleans area prior to hurricane Katrina, and crime there (while it IS smaller than NYC) is much more prevalent per capita."
Thank you for providing the stastics for MY argument though, dumb@ss.
The entire point was that you made an assumption that I think NYC is big and scary because its a large city... and I quote
" oh, the big city...sooooo scary, not safe. c'mon (wo)man, the big screen is not real life - I'm sorry you're still scarred by the movie kids from back in the 90's."
Why would I make an assumption that city size has anything to do with crime when apparently, I know that it just in fact isn't true. I do know, however, that NWA has less crime than NYC and that NYC has less crime per capita than New Orleans... which is what I stated.. as mentioned before..
I quote again... "But your big city mentality, is that people from arkansas are @$$clowns for using words and sentences that you don't understand correctly" thank you and much do credit to whoever said it!
Now, please go back to your finance site.. apparently, its your only area of expertise.
@28 - to repeat, for the avoidance of doubt: please stop you're embarrassing yourself.
“My conclusions are reached on by statistics. My statistics are on a per capita basis.”
look at the statistics from the d.o.j., re-read my comment @27 and note the states with the lowest PER CAPITA crime rates. then return here (you have my permission) and report back to us why you chose NE (since you logic is so lucid). click “post comment” only once, then turn off your computer or return to yahoo. the end.
WOW... I'm not the user from NE idiot. There are several guest users posting and apparently you aren't keeping track very well. I live in Fayetteville, Ar. check those stats.
Are you ready to admit that you look like a total ass now and just leave it alone... you, me dear friend, are the one embarrassing yourself.
"I've been in the NWA area for almost four years now. I'm originally from a very large city, and I have two college degrees. I can honestly say, having lived both places and experienced them both fully, that NWA is a much cleaner, safer, kinder, economically stable, moralistic place to live than NYC."
I never, in fact, even said that NYC had extremely high crime rates, because they have in fact improved drastically. I said that NWA has a lower per capita crime rate than NYC and is safer... please find ill logic in that.
@32 - tough to keep track of all those "guests"...but since you live in fayetteville, maybe you ARE the idiot...
@33 - stop, just stop. no one is impressed by your two degrees...
ok kids, I've got a dinner to go to – you’ve served your purpose and kept me thoroughly entertained by your stupidity, random attacks and yes, enterprising logic (or lack thereof). cheers b1tches!
Please... try as hard as you can to find a site that says NYC has a lower per capita crime rate than NWA. That was, after all, what I originally stated that got you off on this tangent.
@cluzo: I don't know how you're following this argument, it's not lucid (from any direction). I know people from AR that aren't complete fuck-tards; there are plenty of people that have migrated both in and out of the area that are worthy of conversation.
That being said, having been around IC a little longer than the rest of you raving idiots, he's not bigoted/slanted/overly-opinionated against anyone in particular, though he seems to take offense to blatant stupidity. Any points you derived to that affect are clearly mistaken.
No one is impressed that you live in NYC either. I've lived in several cities and states, and I chose Fayetteville. I haven't regretted it one bit.... seems like you rather enjoy interacting with people from here too... you've been at it all day! Guess your life isn't all that full up there in the big city... or else you wouldn't be worried about what is or isn't going on here.
however, if as implied by the "It detonated 4 times" comment, you are another @$$clown from an @$$backward state, then you sir need to return to yahoo finance (or improve your vocabulary).
You wouldn't call him bigoted/slanted/ or overly-opinionated?
Perhaps the conversation would be more lucid if "IC" took any time at all to correctly read, write and interpret things. There are several people on here who have made blunders in typing, spelling and grammar. I guess it all depends on what you consider to be a crime against the English language.
Improper capitalization or lack thereof is also considered poor grammar. I'm not sure anyone was trying to write their thesis here, just getting their points across.
He was arguing from the person to the whole (obvious logical fallacy) for humor (you're an idiot therefore the state that you're representative of is full of idiots) and to rile you up. We all got a kick out of it.
Well, I'm glad that when one town in the US is plagued by fear, bomb threats, and maliciousness that you all choose them to "get a kick out of". It speaks volumes about your maturity and concern and compassion for others.
@42 well said. my sister works in that bank and i was scared for her all day. glad its a joke to other people. maybe we should've laughed when the world trade center blew up, but instead we sent our best men and women to help you people, not taunt you.
That's a straw-man argument, and thus complete bullshit (though it's humorous that you don't see the error in what you just did).
Please come back when you can formulate something logically coherent (and decidedly less emotional). Plus you sound like my mom, and seriously, fuck that.
YOU SEEM LIKE A REAL KNOW IT ALL BTCH AND YOU'RE PROBABLY PRETTY LUCKY YOU AREN'T FACE TO FACE WITH MY WIFE RIGHT NOW.. CUZ I GUARANTEE SHE'D MOP THE FLOOR WITH YOUR A$$. THAT'S ONE ARGUMENT YOU'LL NEVER WIN.
yeah, she's hot. but she doesn't waste her time with idiots and neither do i. which is why i am going to enjoy this beautiful city. all other arkansans care to join me? leave them to their misery up there.
@21 haha, love this whole argument. I think you meant to say geography, not geology. There is kind of a difference btw. those 2, dude/dudette. Anyways all of you are morrons for discussing this bullshit. Not reading on...bye bye
@phobos - you fought the good fight, the yahoo infidels have retreated. as a seasoned reader of this space, your analysis was spot on. db lives on to see another day. well done.
and no, I don’t use caps, lest someone accuse ME of trying to be grammatically correct – this is a fking blog! that said, I do my best to use the english language properly.

And your grammar sucks; it's funny.

@39

@42/@MOM
That's a straw-man argument, and thus complete bullshit (though it's humorous that you don't see the error in what you just did).
Please come back when you can formulate something logically coherent (and decidedly less emotional). Plus you sound like my mom, and seriously, fuck that.

@47 Don't you talk about 42 like that...
She is not your wife, she is your sister, the Judge said so...
What you and her ben doing is just wrong. If there was a reward I would turn you two in for it in a Hot Arky Night...

@phobos - you fought the good fight, the yahoo infidels have retreated. as a seasoned reader of this space, your analysis was spot on. db lives on to see another day. well done.
