I’d disagree. There seems to be this concept that everyone is “entitled” to their opinion, but I don’t believe that to be the case. Everyone may be entitled to a remotely informed opinion, but idiotically spouting off nonsense from a position of extreme ignorance I just don’t feel is a right (i.e. a fist/palm to face is warranted).

Sorry, three or four major religions are against gay marriage. And marriage as a concept is strongly associated with religion so tough luck.
I’m sure civil unions are more popular. No one wants gays to go without tax benefits, visitation rights, right to sue each other on separation.
Its the other stuff attached to legally married status that society doesn’t like or is nervous about.
1. If legal marriages are gay marriages, are churches allowed to refuse to rent their premises to same-sex marriages? There have been churches sued on this who only kept the right based on the fact that gay marriages weren’t legal.
2. Do gay couples get same ranking as straight couples in the adoption queues or in disputing custody in a divorce?
3. Do you allow gay couples family reunion under immigration law? And if so how to do you verify genuine status on gay couples from a location which doesn’t have a legal gay marriage? Poorly managed this a backdoor to a broken immigration system.
4. Do companies automatically have to cover gay spouses or be guilty of anti-discrimination?
5. Once you establish anti-discrimination based arguments can be used to review marriage law without popular support, how do you stop the legalization of bigamy? A major religion (Islam) allows it. Religious status is a more clearly protected criteria than sexual behaviour.
The stage on which she has unleashed her ridiculous opinion was earned. Your problem is how WE value this girl.
