Picture 1355.png
Former Fairfield Greenwich employee Sherry Cohen on the Noels:

Frontline: Did you like them?
Cohen: I think that Walter and Monica are very, very likable people.
I think that the next generation had supreme self-confidence, confidence that I kind of wish I would’ve had, except that it really got to be too much. They were sometimes arrogant. They had a tremendous sense of self-entitlement. And I wasn’t the only one who thought that. And I wasn’t the only one who thought that they were very, very aggressive…

Also:

Frontline: Somebody told me that the whole entire family lost [$60 to] $80 million. [Is that] a lot of money for this family?
Cohen: Sixty million dollars is a hell of a lot of money for this family. People seem to assume that they were always rich, but they weren’t always rich. And when Walter was about 65 years old, he had mortgages up the wazoo. They were constantly refinancing. They didn’t own cars. …

“the next generation had supreme self-confidence, confidence that I kind of wish I would’ve had, except that it really got to be too much..” Beware: based on what I see all over the UES, this is typical among the children of the very rich. And def not the best way to raise children. Unless you want your fortune to be diminished very quickly.

Sherry Cohen reads like the average jew in New York city nowadays, the next generation are a bunch of arrogants with a tremendous sense of self-entitlement. Very unlike the parents that are humble, hard working and were far from rich for the most part.
Its always such a delight to speak to the parents, the kids on the other hand…

16 Nah, not that simple. Haven’t you ever been to say a charity event in NYC, sipping wine with the very wealthy. In ways that are difficult to describe they are just very different than the rest of us. They have a calm, fearless, entitled air about them that people (like me) who are just mildly successful don’t have.

Take it from a fellow Greenwich-ite who went to school with them: they are big anti-Semites. Round Hill Club does not accept Jews, so take a guess as to who wants to belong there.
“Sherry Cohen” is merely going to confirm their feelings about Jews, which makes me mad/sad.

19 – They must be putting on airs for you at the event, which is very common as they overcompensate what they lack, big difference with the older generation that are more natural and true to themselves. You probably don’t get to see them in the daily life. The women’s tone of voice is horribly nagging and demanding, the men are just plain arrogant. Once again this is the next generation …

  28. Posted by guest | May 13, 2009 at 4:13 PM

These people thought they were in the middle of a win win, delivering great client returns and getting rich themselves. Then it all fell apart. I doubt they’re mean, selfish or arrogant, just dim witted. This has got to hurt bad.

Groucho Marx said he once tried to join the Santa Monica Swim Club so his daughter would have a place to go swimming with her friends, and the club said “No Jews allowed.” So he said to them: ” Listen, my daughter is half-Jewish — is it all right if she goes swimming in your pool up to her waist?”

Like the other hedge fund guys I got me a trophy wife but I’m a little suspicious, you know? Can’t help it. There’s always a trainer or a pool boy or a gardner or some guy hangin around the place. Why, the other day my trophy wife was showing off works of art in the house to some rich friends when I got in from work. After introductions, a man says to me, “Your wife just showed us her Klimt.”
    I said, “You too!!??”

  48. Posted by guest | May 13, 2009 at 4:41 PM

@34: it is not false. Who do they have – Lou Gerstner? If that? I have no problem if a private club wants to select who they want to hang out with – it’s people’s prerogative. But they are restricted. One or two Jews doesn’t make it “mixed”. Are you even from Greenwich? They don’t care about “what’s good for business” – they just want to hang out with who they want to hang out with.
Those girls were always quite high on themselves, and for all the “oh, poor Noels” – let’s call a spade a spade: the only money they had with Madoff was 2008′s management fee that they hadn’t “earned’ yet. All those hundreds of millions they had made from the decade before – wasn’t with Bernie. You think they didn’t know?

Then if I went home and whined to my parents about the episode my dad would have smacked me around just for good measure beacuse the teacher was probably right.
Problem today is that the UES (and NYC) is full of tourists who made a big buck and have no underlying class or respect for others. Fasted way to adjust for that is to bring back a little crime like the good old days. Then all the wanna-bees will go scampering back to the pathetic, self-aggrandizing suburbs from whence they came.

  87. Posted by guest | May 14, 2009 at 2:06 PM

@83…@80 here, “as fasted as you can”? Shouldn’t you be waiting outside Home Depot for some migrant work? Speak English you peasant.
@85…good attention to detail. However, only tramp whores right of college with their first real, “off their knees” job live East of Park. They usually live in a walk-up tenement above a 2nd Ave dive, have two other roommates, harbor Town & Country fantasies about how they will live happily ever after in a classic six with a park view, and inevitably spend most of their time at Dorrian’s hoping to score a real live preppy; be he a murderer or not. (I have no problem partaking mind you, but they get clingy and tiresome after a few days.)
No sir, I grew up West of Park and in the years when we didn’t spend our time at our home in the Cotswolds (hence the English discipline) we would entertain ourselves by hurling water balloons at the Puerto Rican day and other ethno-centric parades.

  88. Posted by guest | May 14, 2009 at 2:37 PM

@80 here again…per the last paragraph of the last post…yeah, those actions are the poster child of no respect for others, but I was a kid and really racking up the frequent flier miles in the stairwell back then. I’m better adjusted now, have been conditioned to hold my own in a bar fight or street brawl and, because of the nerve damage but mostly because of the Makers Mark Manhattans, really don’t feel any pain when I get wailed on for good measure. Just an anticipatory “point taken” on hypocrisy.

  89. Posted by guest | May 14, 2009 at 5:56 PM

It was a warm June evening at dusk in ’82. Adianne laid out a cotton blanket on the edge of the 14th green at RHC. After some wine stolen from her ‘rents liquor cabinet she let down her prudish guard. She let me take depth soundings in two places I had never before experienced. I had never heard a sound like that come out of a woman.

  90. Posted by guest | May 14, 2009 at 6:58 PM

@80 “Fasted way to adjust for that is to bring back a little crime like the good old days”? You fucking illiterate peasant. You sound like a fucktwat that went to some dirt-shit school (like Yale’s “School of Management” where Yale continues to fail to build a business school). Go fuck yourself, you peasant.

  91. Posted by guest | May 14, 2009 at 9:51 PM

@90…@80 here. Well….I guess I’m in a bit of a pickle here, a cornichon if you will, and well deserved I might add. It’s so horribly embarrassing to miss a bit of sarcasm, it so…what’s the word…hoi polloi? But there is a perfect explanation.
You see. The wealthy (rich is merely an aspiration of the masses) almost never do anything for themselves. They hire people to do it for them. This is true even for such simple tasks as posting on Dealbreaker. This is why I missed @83’s wry sarcastic insult (kudos by the way); I had hired some bright-eyed, bushy-tailed poetry major from Barnard to type my dictation. Cleary, as she was taking another form of dick-tation, she must have mistyped “fastest” as “fasted”. Please don’t worry, I take full responsibility and the fair onslaught of slander that shall inevitably ensue and be hurled my way from my fellow literary pugilists on DB. Rest assured though, she will be summarily dismissed in the morning, along with that incompetent valedictorian from Harvard Law School who was hired to proof read and vet all of my correspondence.
The reality is, the wealthy and privileged really don’t need to be that smart to sustain our status in life. Just look at Spaulding Smails, or G.W. as an example. And to answer your burning question…no I did not attend a “management” school of any kind; how vocational. And for that peasant comment, its just a family habit that’s been passed down over generations since we were included in that infernal Domesday Book.
So Kids! Look, I’m terribly sorry this happened. I’ll pay for your lunch and I’ll pay for the umbrella.

  92. Posted by guest | May 15, 2009 at 8:56 PM

bull – known the family since the 80′s – Monica ran illegal brazillians into the country pretending they were family farmed them out as domestics for a fee – daughters – same as they ever were… always had cars. Walter is the classic million dollar spit in the ocean wasp wanna be.
