I just realized I haven't checked Clusterstock all day. All the short crude oil people and short natty traders are squealin' like pigs caught under a gate! Busy, busy, busy.....
@4, I will take the Twix, but hold the reach. The reach arounds at Barclays are somewhat tender, awkward, but ultimately unsatisfying. Whereas the ones given at BoonesofA are prison quality raw (assuming you are from Merril). The heritage guys get nothing (surprise).
As a former employee of Barc/Leh, I'm surprised they're still doing layoffs. Who is left? They just did a massive round a few weeks ago with major heads of groups getting cut. This is like their 8th round of layoffs since it began early 2008.

@10 - With the legacy LEH guys gone, either voluntarily or involuntarily, they realized the lack of caliber of the ones that remained. So someone up there pulled out his calculator and did some math and realized that it's a better biz to rid of the low-performing majority and used the $ & headcount to lure talent. Barcap - back in the poaching biz!! (oh, did I mention that the brit companies almost always do things slower than their american counterparts?)
not surprising -- anytime you have a big merger w/ lots of overlap you'll need to have several rounds of fat trimming because a lot of that fat is hiding amongst the muscle and it takes time to find it all.

@10-11
Maybe they're just getting rid of the rest of the people that don't know how to use a computer.

@10 I don't think 'lack of caliber' works.

Severance was a slice of fin from a coked up Mexican Cocaine Shark. They all left the office with a detached air about them.
