Fed Emails Bash BofA Chief In Tussle Over Merrill Deal (WSJ)
Earlier that day, Mr. Bernanke had weighed in on the threat to pull out of the Merrill deal: "I think the threat to use the MAC is a bargaining chip, and we do not see it as a very likely scenario at all," he wrote in a Dec. 21 email to a selection of Fed governors.
He also urged preparations be made "so that we can explain to [Bank of America] with some confidence why we think it would be a foolish move and why regulators will not condone it."

Read e-mails between Sanford, woman (The State)
"Since our first meeting there in a wind swept somewhat open air dance spot in Punta del Este, I felt that you had that same rare attribute. Above all else I love that inner beauty about you...You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that is so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificently gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curves of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of night's light -- but hey, that would be going into the sexual details we spoke of at the steakhouse at dinner -- and unlike you I would never do that!"

DB - Why are the comments hidden?
The comments account for more than 50% of the reason I come to this site (the rest is mostly for the headlines and ads - not the content). I had assumed you had a dramatic decline in readership.
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 7:43AM
@1 the comments have been hidden for two weeks and they're not actually hidden, rocket scientist, you just have to click another button to get to them.

"Why are the comments hidden? "
so people can choose whether or not they want to read whatever thoughts coming out of cocksuckers like yourself.

I'm going to use those stanford emails for my next love letter.
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 7:46AM
yeah fine but the real question is: what base did gasbag reach with bess last night?
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 7:47AM
@1 "I had assumed you had a dramatic decline in readership." if you were smart (no, actually even idiots would get this) you'd know that you could still see the number of comments left without seeing the actual comments, in which case you wouldn't have jumped to that conclusion.

was sanford using the SC.gov email address??!?! i liked the "dumping security at the taco bell" subvert activity but how could he have dropped the ball here so badly?
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:07AM
Is there an adverb missing in that AIG headline-- like the word, "partially" around repay? The Masters of the Fed couldn't find any buyers for the units so they think-- bright idea, let's IPO it? This should be a confirm to all that IPOs are only conducted when management thinks their firm is overvalued and has limited hopes for growth.
Note to NY Fed-- if you really want to create that false demand for those companies, make sure they are included in the S&P500 so that indexers have to buy it.

Bess- if CG starts emailing u that way after last night's rendezvous, you'll know it's cribbed.
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:18AM
OH MY GOD! WHAT HAPPENED TO BESS!!! SHE'S STILL NOT HOME!!! SHE DIDN'T POST OPENING BELL!

Anyone else feel like those love letters were written by a love-struck 15 year old?
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:33AM
It's like finding your friend's diary and you open it, start reading and then it's too late, you have to continue reading. Only this time the diary is on the internet.
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:34AM
@14 totally
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:35AM
I believe those emails are slightly embellished. Expecting the true Queen B to buzz in any moment now. Doubt she's sporting an AngMo-like glow this morning at soft hands of the g-man.
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:36AM
@ 15 EXACTLY!
I feel guilty reading them...
Maybe its the romantic in me but they're pretty touching e-mails...except every time he write glorious for some reason I imagine it in Will Ferrell's voice
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:42AM
@18 seriously? they sound like they're ripped from "love letters for dummies"
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:43AM
@14-- no, i feel they were written by a 49-year-old, heiress-wed, double-the-fertility-rate-child-spawning, former-goldman-sachs, republican-presidential-hopeful, south carolinian, current-standing governor.
a teenager wouldn't take such dumb risk.

20+ comments and no AQR bashing yet? Did all those disgruntled, laid-off BO employees manage to find jobs?
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 8:51AM
AQR sucks, Kabiller is an idiot and Cliffy is a tool. Does that work for you?
AQR isn't relevant anymore.

Judging by his writing, English appears to be Sanford's second language, too.

How about that Rolling Stone article? Truly the banner of populist horseshit. I'm glad RS readers get their business news from a magazine touting it's "Exclusive Jonas Brothers Cover Shoot" on the home page.

I think John Henry wrote those.

@24 poor aqr. hedge funds need to re-invent. another unfortunate case, the children. goddammit, why does there have to be a 2/20, 3/50?!?! why can people just give out of the kindness of their hearts, annually, to the children?!!?

"TCI Trying to Calm Its Investors"
"Mr. Hohn also is considering charging investors fees on performance over a several-year period rather than annually, one person familiar with the matter said. Such a change would mean investors wouldn't be out of pocket for large fees in one "up" year for the fund if it posted losses the following two years, for instance."

perusing that e-mail exchange was more than a bit disturbing for any number of reasons -- if these aren't fake(and that "Thornbirds" reference is a masterful touch if it is a fake, btw -- totally demographically approriate for the gov) --- they indicate a guy who is sincerely over the friggin moon lovestruck.
Yeah yeah, I know - we're all supposed to demonize him cuz he's a hypocritcal right-wing "family values" tard that got caught out having a gumada.
Well first off remember that hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue -- at least at some level the hypocrite knows he's over the line and isn't totally amoral.
Second thing is that we gotta either get back to the day when the press lays the heck off on people's personal biz (Ike and Kennedy both boffed around and no one knew for years) or else get more of a Euro attitude and just accept that men are men and powerful alpha-men will attract extra babeage pure and simple. But the beta losers that write for papers just can't get past their loser high school days, and so are compelled to put one over on the jocks.

@23
Good question. It'd be kind of weird for a woman to stand "in the faded glow of night's light" holding her tits in her hands, no?

Starting a new fund so they can front run the trade? Now AQR is stealing from Rentec's playbook, WTF?!?

@26 and @29 for a shared win!!

As awkward and childish as these ramblings are, remember, that were written under the spell of love. Once hit by Cupid's quiver, who amongst us would write coherent and logical prose when our heart was filled with utter joy? Open yourself to life and let the bitter cynicism wash away.
Bess, remember my words last night Bess:
You be strong, you survive. You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you.

@32: though i agree with your view on the press interfering in people's personal lives, the media circus began as a search for a missing person... the infidelity was revealed via his press conference after the claim of just hikin' the App. trail didn't hold up(and the fact that he was smart enough to let the cat out of the bag before the newspapers did it for him).
Posted by guest , Jun 25, 2009 9:46AM
Something just isn't right about all this. It was like boom, boom, boom. Yeah, you got me, yeah I'm getting divorced and yeah I'm in love and yeah oh and let's leak these emails to prove it. Okies, crisis over, you got your stuff, now move along.

"We don't want to be theoretical academics. We want to be the guys who demystify alternative (investments) and tell people what's under the wizard's hat," co-founder David Kabiller said.
Unfortunately, that's what you will become David. Have you sat in meetings with zero experience all theory PhDs at AQR? IMHO, all PhDs at AQR should immediately be promoted to partner for inventing the novel concept of mutual funds!
