We weren’t kidding, bitches! According to FT Alphaville, clearly giving you people far too much credit than is due, a comment lefty by “sugardaddy” this morning caused the Sterling to “jackknife…falling from 1.64 to the dollar to a low of 1.61 and moving above 0.87 to the euro.”

DB is the new Yahoo Message board! Congrats all around.

  2. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:44 PM

@1- yeah, because commenters on Yahoo clearly move markets.

  3. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:47 PM

That’s fucking awesome! Now if only Greg would quit, today would be the greatest day ever on DB.

  4. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:50 PM

That’s awesome. What markets can we game tomorrow?

  5. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:50 PM

Way to speculate / make stuff up Alphaville. Folks – please take a second and think about just how retarded the logic being used here is.

  6. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:51 PM

@5- yes, Alphaville is retarded, but it’s still awesome that they’re bestowing such credit on the daddy of sugar.

I’m now worried for the “pounding-my-secretary-in-the-ass” guy’s secretary. Will his rumour speading on dealbreaker lead to the unfortunate ass pounding his secretary must live in fear of?

  8. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:53 PM

    Sugardaddy = Gordie Brown?

  9. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:57 PM

this is news? pump and dump has been happening for ages on the internet; and rumors have been spread around trading desks for ages as well.
the only piece of news here is that traders are looking to the internet for rumors rather than to their buddy on the phone

where is said sugardaddy? bess, has the sec called looking for his IP address? as mary j said: I don’t want “no more drama”…

  11. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 4:58 PM

DB jumped the shark today. It became self-aware and can no longer function as it has been.
I suggest DB change require registration, change it’s domain address every so often, then only update approved members of the change.

  12. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:00 PM

@11- it’s a two line post. get over yourself.

  13. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:00 PM

But seriously the UK is just a big Special Olympics farm system.

  14. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:01 PM

    @11- kill yourself.

  15. Posted by Anal_yst | June 4, 2009 at 5:01 PM

Wonder how much that ad on Alphaville cost Mr. Daddy/DB

But seriously the UK is just a big Special Olympics farm system.

Anyone have a pic of Bess Levin? I keep looking, but can only find pics of Baz Luhrmann

  19. Posted by Investorcluzo | June 4, 2009 at 5:06 PM

btw, I’m really not liking this “comments hidden for your protection” system, I wouldn’t right click the story if I didn’t want to read the comments…

  20. Posted by legal eagle | June 4, 2009 at 5:07 PM

Sugardaddy should get a cheesesteak. Whatever happened to that celebratory ritual anyway?

  21. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:09 PM

It is now clear that FT Alphaville = responsible for half the trolling on DB.
Out of 1000 comments/day here they watch like a hawk, they picked some random one and made it the cause? Bravo FT, well done!

  22. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:09 PM

@2…because we on dealbreaker move markets? Get over yourself…

I’m thinking that sugardaddy’s comment was well thought out.

  24. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:17 PM

I heard El Prezidente Obama is resigning
    *shorts dollar*

  25. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:18 PM

Funny thing is that I was online when sugardaddy made his comment and the first thing I thought was whether the guy is a currency trader. I quickly checked around and concluded that sugardaddy was full of shit.
FT Alphaville now has a new theory of what happened, and it doesn’t involve sugardaddy. But it’s quite some publicity for DB.

  26. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:19 PM

@ 24 I’d go long on the dollar if that were for serious.

  27. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:21 PM

I think that Stacy-Marie chick was responsible for the whole LOBSTERCLOPS thing.

  28. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:25 PM

amazing how sugar daddy’s comment “caused” a price move that occured before the comment. his post was at 8:04 several minutes after the move. hence the “GBP getting killed” in his post. wow alphaville are retarded fucks.

  29. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:31 PM

    Sugardaddy moves markets.

  30. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:34 PM

    Shitman, TGFD is seriously jealous.
Sugardaddy is the man; his one-liner elicited a response from #10 Downing St.
Sugardaddy is the new killing it!
    The Guy from Delaware
p.s. I hope like hell another bomb doesn’t land on the trailer.

  31. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:43 PM

no kidding 28, his comment was on the existing gap down in GBP. anyway that had been an active rumour all morning. FT Alphaville “writers” probably need some new material

  32. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 5:46 PM

    “existing gap down in GBP”
    lol gey

  33. Posted by guest | June 4, 2009 at 6:28 PM

trading foreign currencies based on dealbreaker message boards is the new KILLING IT!!

  41. Posted by EvilBuzzard | June 5, 2009 at 7:47 AM

Congrats Sugardaddy. THey don’t call this place Dealbreaker for nuttin’.

  42. Posted by guest | June 5, 2009 at 8:47 AM

@38 : The line, “Blue Horse Shoe Loves Anacot Steel,” was the code that Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) had Bud Fox(Charlie Sheen) use for insider trading in the film “Wall Street” (1987).

  43. Posted by guest | June 5, 2009 at 9:47 AM

hey sugardaddy: i’ve got a couple of stocks for you to mention. call me!
