EnTrust Capital Inc., a hedge fund firm that’s handled New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s personal and campaign money, received state pension funds to invest from a company he has identified as paying possible illegal kickbacks.
The investment presents a potential conflict of interest for Cuomo, legal ethics experts said.

“Given his relationship with EnTrust, Cuomo shouldn’t decide whether it should be a target of any probe, the experts said. ”

Greg Hymowitz was that nice boy who used to pop up on CNBC and I assume other biznews outlets every so often I think? Haven’t seen him in a while. So beyond the conflict in Cuomo prosecuting Morris, does anybody else think that the payments to Entrust stink of access to Cuomo? All of these arrangements/fees/interconnected deals make this business look like a giant clusterfuck.

@19– not sure the story will be his undoing, but definitely a crack in the dam

Agreed – if you are managing money for any public pension funds or political figures you have to be smart enough to steer clear of donations and other political ties/events…And the fact these guys appeared to have a clear cut relationship with the shady placement agents is just more proof they were looking for help to raise capital – GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION!

“Potential conflict of interest”? Is that what they’re calling it these days?

He’s almost as bad as Elliot Spitler. He knows good and well whether these guys need to be reamed with a battle axe. He’s protecting his cronies. And unlike Spitler, he’s a total frikking bore!

Am I the only one who thinks this story is being underplayed? There are all sorts of things to consider here, not the least of which is the fact that recusal is something of a joke considering all Cuomo has to do is stop by the office of one of his investigators, close the door, and none of us will be the wiser. Of course, EnTrust is really getting a boost here with the recusal, as their competitors are the ones who are going to probably have to face Cuomo’s withering glance.
There are other long-range problems as well. EnTrust isn’t the only company that could possibly come under scrutiny. Both Diamond Edge Partners and Carlyle Group have already written checks for the AG’s next campaign. Might it be a good idea for Cuomo to simply recuse himself from any potential inquiry into any company that’s already ponied up?

While Entrust likely did not pay kickback fees, the fact they donated back in the day to the guys campaign and ultimately won assets from the fund of fund that was charged in the scandal is way too fishy – I hope they dont just overlook Entrusts activities because they didnt outright pay kickback fees – basically I feel Entrust knew the dirty work being done and turned a blind eye to it and is now just blaming the fund of fund – there were dinners with all three parties present – I dont care what Entrust says…

For anyone who might be interested, here’s a link to a list of all of Cuomo’s campaign contributors. It seems like there might be a lot of interesting information to mine here:
