Obviously Goldman Sachs is behind this, somehow, but why? Above, the "Love Story" of Sergey and Elina, a video that's been available since 2007, and was up until some point last night. Now, alarmingly, the audio's been stripped, supposedly over copyright infringement, though we have it on good authority there's more to this than meets the Blankfein. Is this some sort of coded message via LB? The WSJ suggested earlier that Serge and the wife should be embarrassed about the video, which tells how workaholic Aleynikov found love via a genie in a lamp, and would perhaps want to bury evidence of its existence. With all due respect, the Journal clearly has no idea what it's talking about-- this is nothing to be embarrassed over. It's the sort of thing you shout loud and proud.

it's obviously supposed to be a silent film, or else there would be no need for the spliced-in text ("you need to get married!", etc). this is common in alot of classic silent films. i doubt there ever was any audio

The part I do not quite understand is how some other firm would be able to properly utilize this code. I assume front running involves before the fact knowledge of orders, not detecting after the fact patterns in executed orders.
According to the stats, GS is responsible for 40% of the program trading activity, so it can front run against its own clients. Who else has access to that large a body of order executions? How do the ‘markets’ get manipulated?
So, is this a smoke screen to lock down the code as it will reveal something different about its purposes? Theft of IP shows GS has been harmed and justifies preventive actions - why the need to warn about the possibility of a financial WMD?
