According to Robert Benmosche, the people who have been on his case for kicking off his AIG career by tending his grapes in Croatia, have it all wrong. The truth of the matter is he really doesn't need anybody else around and can fulfill all of the duties of CEO of one of the most troubled companies in the world by telecommuting.

@1: I disagree--I think AIG should win the "Smartest Company of the Century." It's employees made a ton of money for many years, then when everything fell apart because of the products they sold, gov't bailed out them out, the stockholders took the loss, and they got early retirement. Looks to me like they won the game.
If I could find a job where I get to reap all of the upside reward and not be subject to any of the downside risk, I'd consider that a victory.

I warned the management of AIG many times in the comments of this blog and others that the premiums they were charging for CDS were too low. Of course, my advice went unheeded just as it often was back when I was practicing medicine. My patients would come back with some chronic fatal condition crying to me to save them, but it was too late...
