Mind The Cap

alistair_darling.jpgTaking a page out of the major US sports leagues’ playbook, Alistair Darling is entertaining a proposal to install a salary cap for financial services firms. The plan, in addition to imposing Nordic tax levels of 90% on Andrew Hall type bonuses, would create a “maximum wage ration” which would effectively link the compensation of senior MDs to first year analysts. We can only hope the plan would include another US creation that would effectively communicate the typical level of disdain for such arrangements and reinforce the distinction between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’- the luxury tax.

Not wanting to raise the ire of Darling or Obama, Nicholls State has selected an appropriate mascot. The KGB will wait for no one!

They won’t be able to put a stop to outrageous bonuses when they’re paid in ju-ju-bees!

The ‘talent’ should build a floating country of traders and brokers who travel the world in a giant floating luxury city with chocloate fountains, caviar sculptures and boats of russian and ukrainian hookers in tow behind it. That will show the populist masses.

@5 – and what are they going to trade? traders?

  12. Posted by guest | August 17, 2009 at 4:47 PM

@11 – no, silly. Not the actual traders. Synthetic traders. And there will need to be synthetic trader derivatives.
The many derivatives will be tracked and combined into an index, the STD Index.
You can utilize the STD Index to follow the logical progression of the various traders through the champagne, caviar, and Ukranian hookers.
Pretty soon, the Index will become more exotic and include variants that are predictive of Dennis Kneale’s Collie relationships and Jeff Macke’s interludes with Greg’s mom.

Remember that Labour is a zombie government and they will enact nothing. Great sales job for moving to Toronto or Zurich though!
