Oh For The Love Of Love (DealBreaker)
Yesterday on one of Greg's posts I noticed a little calf showing, a snip here or there, perhaps even some honest flirting (one can't be sure where hatred and horny meet with this crowd). We care about our readers; we want you to be happy. It's just what we do, people. That said, after speaking with InvestorCluzo (who has been a remarkably good sport about this), if Tax Chick can summon the gumption to accompany that mouth we'd be happy to arrange for the two of you lovebirds to shake hands.
AIG Reports First Profit In Seven Quarters (Bloomberg)
AIG has managed to pull its head from its ass for at least a quarter, as they report second quarter income of $1.82B or $2.30 a share.
RBS Posts $7.52B Loss (Bloomberg)
""There is every sign that our financial performance over the next two years, at a group level, will be poor due to the severe economic downturn in 2008 and 2009 and consequent impact on impairments and funding costs," Chief Executive Officer Stephen Hester said today in a statement."
Small Banks Picking Up Talent (WSJ)
Regionals are dipping into the talent pool of the larger firms, though the article doesn't expressly define what positions these finance geniuses are interested in. Is this a sign of times to come (people looking for the stability of smaller/less risky operations), or of desperation?
President Obama Not Saying Shit About Replacing Bernanke (Reuters)
Bernanke's term expires January 31st, 2010; as is we don't have any clue as to whether or not the President will be stepping in to replace him. There's a good point to be made in cutting him down now, though - you don't give him the authority or respect that tenure demands.
ProShare Getting Sued Over Leveraged ETF (WSJ)
It's a failure to disclose risk suit, which is comical on so many levels. Labaton Sucharow LLP is leading the charge.
Citigroup Considers Options With Philbro (NYT)
"After putting out feelers to sell its Phibro commodities business, including a brief talk with the billionaire investor Warren E. Buffett, Citigroup is considering a variety of options. Among them is a deal that would give control of the unit to Mr. Hall, the energy trader who runs Phibro, two people close to the negotiations said."
NYT Hires Goldman To Explore Boston Globe Sale (Reuters via CNN)
"The New York Times Co has enlisted Goldman Sachs to explore a sale of its New England Media Group, which owns the 137-year-old Boston Globe and other media assets."
Bankers Beat Odds In Toxic Pay Plan (WSJ)
Despite its detractors, it turns out the CS plan to pay bankers with bonds hasn't been all that bad.

AIG share trading on Wednesday has to be investigated. 63% move up on no official news? Was Sullivan on the horn to his old employers, telling them to cover their shorts?
Posted by guest , Aug 07, 2009 8:33AM
@5 here, sorry, not Sullivan, meant ex-GS board member Liddy

In other news, DB has hired away several former top execs of Match.com in an attempt to enhance and make stronger their foray into the online dating services industry, a multibillion dollar industry focused on bringing together couples based on a number of compatibility categories. Analysts are uncertain as to whether this is a wise decision and are maintaining a "hold" order on DB for the time being.

Well, I need to organize myself and go to Weight Watchers. The next week will be the hardest. Once I see a loss, the switch will flip in my brain and I’ll be ready to eat vegetable soup for every meal.

Darwinism has been the prevailing orthodoxy in schooling for decades. If Darwinism is the essential element of “good science education,” then why are American students’ results so poor compared to the rest of the world’s?

I decided that, if I didn’t try to get Frank to settle down for a nap, I wouldn’t be frustrated if he didn’t. So I mopped the kitchen and dining room. After a while I started to get snivelly, and I remembered a recent article by Mike Adams. He was feeling badly about something, and decided to call someone whose name started with A and say something cheerful. Then someone starting with B, and so on.
I couldn’t phone anyone while running the mop machine, but I decided to pray for a FReeper starting with A, then B, and so on through the alphabet. Now I feel great, and the floors are clean, and my NRA pocket knife came, a prize for contributing to gift memberships for military personnel.

The Richards guy is a fake name. Could be EP, but doubt she's up so early in the morning.
Posted by guest , Aug 07, 2009 9:06AM
@17 I'm pretty sure it's not EP.

If Tax Chick and Cluzo decide to "hammer out the details", I vote that Bess live blog the event...possibly with a camcorder.
Cluzo - How do you feel about wearing a scream mask?
Tax Chick - Sorry, just not the same for me if I can’t see your face.
Alternatively, I've had a curiously persistent fantasy wherein He-Man gives it to She-Ra.
I'll be sure to have popcorn and the requisite box of Kleenex on standby just in case.

Hey Moron Dealbreaker - Proshares was an inverse fund and the index went down, but the Proshares went down too.
That is not the way it was advertised to work - I'd sue too.

You mean Marquee? Clearly, you did not (although I'm confused as to why you'd be "bragging" about it...)
