The mystery began on July 24, when the 15 crew members of the Arctic Sea said they were tied up and beaten by a group of up to 10 men who boarded the ship off the Swedish island of Oland. The masked men identified themselves as police officers — but Swedish police said they hadn’t been searching ships in that area.
Swedish police investigator Ingemar Isaksson said the crew then claimed that the men left the ship 12 hours later in a high-speed inflatable boat.
“We were very puzzled when we first heard about this,” Isaksson said then. “I have never heard of anything like this in Swedish waters.”

@1 because it has intrigue, ships, guns, aircraft and the sucking sound of UBS sinking beneath the waves.

This feels more like Hagbard Seline than Ragnar. I’m just sayin’.

Soounds like some Tom Clancy/Clive Cussler epic. Unfortunately, next time this thing appears in a Western Port, it will probably be carrying a much different payload… U-238 perhaps?
What a slick way to deliver anuke payload.

Because it is an “Atlas Shrugged” reference. It relates to the current events where there is speculation over capping Wall Street pay, which was the impetus for people leaving to John Galt’s high-producer utopia in Ayn Rand’s book. If I’m a Canadian economics grad and know this and you don’t I’m guessing @1 went to the University of Phoenix for your undergrad.

  8. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 12:23 PM

F you and your Atlas Shrugged references. This post should not be on here. If only someone would hijack this travesty…

  9. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 12:25 PM

@8 it is witty in that sort of “I didn’t go to an online/state school” kind of way. If you read the book you’d appreciate it you f’ing plebe.

    Who is Alan Greenspan?

  11. Posted by Novice | August 12, 2009 at 12:27 PM

@9 Are shitty literature references the new test for who gets to stay in your onanistic fantasyland?

  12. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 12:39 PM

This is supposed to be a finance blog, not “losers post about masturbating to Ayn Rand 6x times a day, every day”. Fuck this. I’m going to go read Clusterstock until Bess comes back

  13. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 12:40 PM

@1 Because Bess put a quota on the ass clowns and now they realize her return is imminent and they have too few posts up!

  14. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 12:43 PM

@9 – fuck you, I went to a better school than you, I got the reference, I still think it’s stupid.

  15. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 12:45 PM

    Too Atlassed; Didn’t Shrug

I still don’t get the rand reference.

  19. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 1:09 PM

so because people fled to higher producing utopia in atlas shrugged, this relates to a boat disappearing in scandinavian waters? maybe i am just retarded…

  20. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 1:09 PM

@17 No, I went to Northern Florida State Automotive College. Why do you ask?

@24 Wow! I thought it was all just a bunch of noise from the EP/GM bashers. Sad state of affairs.

  27. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 1:24 PM

    Ayn Rand sucks.
Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum was way better.

  28. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 1:34 PM

When you know what Ragnar Danneskjöld was actually up to, you understand why postulating, even in jest, that this seems like his sort of schtick is relevant to the world of business and finance.
If you read the article, it even suggests that what this might really be is “self help” on the part of a transaction participant. As the world’s commerce continues to dwindle, that sort of thing might get much more common.

  29. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 1:36 PM

@17 – its no longer a community, just Miami Dade College. and how would you know about MDC anyway? Did you go to FIU or something?

  30. Posted by NakedShort | August 12, 2009 at 1:43 PM

@29 please; I wouldn’t let FIU lick my alma mater’s taint lint.
I know about MDC, not only because of their world class Chess program, but I also live down here.

more snark, more gossip, more breaking news, less wingnuttery. kthx.

  38. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 2:07 PM

@31 – Analyst – doesn’t your comparison exonerate DB and illustrate instead that the trend is “downward” for both sites these past weeks? Race to the Bottom?

  39. Posted by Perkins Maxwell | August 12, 2009 at 2:16 PM

I go away for 10 days on vacation, come back and EP is back at dealbreaker? Is this a time warp and we’re back in 2008? Let’s all pool our $$$ and make a killing shorting Jimmy Cayne’s pot dealer.

  47. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Well that was a piss poor analysis of site traffic. It looks to me like before the end of july traffic was about what it is now, when there was an erratic spike in readership. I know we all hate EP and Blanus, but that doesnt mean we can’t read a fucking chart right.

  48. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 10:03 PM

7/28 – You brought game with your AR reference. Nice job.
This board is going downhill with the lack of wit. You did good by posting.
    Carry on.

  49. Posted by guest | August 12, 2009 at 11:12 PM

    @48
Happens that most people here are not adolescents who are still enamored of a work of fiction that has nothing to do with the real world. If that’s your type of thing, go somewhere else. ep will now go back to zh and fuck with those nutty little brains alright. But ep can’t get away with that shit here, as you should have figured out already. It has nothing to do with wit or humor on our part, just the lack of wit and humor on ep’s part.
