So! Firms are starting to hire again, which is very exciting to those of you trying to improve your situation. Perhaps it’s been a while since a lot have gone through this process, and you’re a little rusty on the Do’s and Dont’s. Which why starting today we’ll be offering little pearls of accumulated wisdom picked up in the field. Tip one: don’t lie about having received an offer from one firm while you’re interviewing with another. Tip one-A: if you’re going to lie about said fake offer, impersonate someone and forge a little evidence: easy on the typos. Spelling Bank of America without ‘c’ is going to be a red flag. Jeffrey Chiang knows what we’re talking about.

Chiang apparently interviewed at Bank of America, where he was asked if he had any offers from other firms. Jeffrey claimed that he was in his second round of interviews with Morgan Stanley. An associate at BofA then contacted his friend at Morgan about Jeffrey’s prospects. The Morgan guy said that contrary to popular belief, JC had only had a phone interview, at which time he claimed to have gotten a full-out offer from BofA. As proof, JC provided a fabricated email allegedly from a recruiting woman at Bank of America, who would probably be surprised to be informed she’d offered Chiang a job (and that she didn’t know how to spell “America”). The Morgan people forwarded the faux letter of employment back to the people at Bank of America who were doing recon and from there it was forwarded to the entire free world.
Obviously, the lies here are not good form but what’s most upsetting is the lack of effort. There wasn’t an ounce of creativity or dancing in this scam (though we did appreciate the demand to be put up at the Four Seasons). In fact, it’s downright boring, as scams go. It doesn’t come close to a Vayner move, and yet Mr. Chiang has been relegated to the same status as one of the greats. (A list of firms JC will likely not be getting offers from, as gleaned from the outrage expressed by their employees, can be found below). Apparently, though, we now live in a world of diminished expectations where you don’t even need a video or a claim to bench press 500 lbs to rile people up or swear they’ll never offer you a job. Going forward, you’ve been warned.

Hi Jeff,
Everyone was very impressed with your interviews today. We are excited
to formally extend to you an offer to join Bank of Ameria [sic]
Merrill Lynch as an analyst next summer. You should be getting
documentation in the mail to sign very shortly. If you have any
further questions please feel free to email me. Again, congratulations
and we look forward to having you join us next year.

This is what Jeffrey sent Morgan Stanley to prove he received an offer
from your firm. Given you told me you dinged him, should I assume this
is fake? If so, that’s unbelievable and his school should be notified,
he shouldn’t get a job anywhere on Wall Street.

I don’t know if this guy has come up on your radar screens in terms of
analyst recruits, but you need to be warned about him. I should have
been tipped off by the fact that he ran a “5k marathon” on his resume.
I just figured something got lost in translation.
I interviewed him on campus, and while he was pretty weird/intense, he
seemed like somebody who would crank and potentially make for a good
analyst, so we waved him in for an office visit.
Things started going bad for him when I got a call from our HR
department about him during our Superday. In making his travel
arrangements with our travel agent, he had apparently made a big stink
about needing to stay at the Four Seasons and blow up on the travel
person. It was apparently bad enough that she went to the trouble to
inform our HR department.
Our Superday reviews on him were pretty mixed, nonetheless. He had
spent a summer at Gulfstar, so I did a bit of checking on him there,
and it became clear that they were also very unimpressed with the way
that he carried himself. So, we dinged him, but that is not where the
story ends.
He had told one of the associates in our office that he was in the
second round of interviews for MS’s Palo Alto office. Well, our
associate happened to mention this to his friend that works in the MS
Palo Alto office and the associate at MS said that Jeff had had only
had a phone interview but had indicated that he had an offer from
BAML. When the MS team asked him to send proof of his offer, he
manufactured the email below and forwarded to the MS team.
We have notified UT of this joker’s behavior, but needless to say,
this guy shouldn’t be able to get a job at McDonalds after a stunt
like this.

So far employees from the following firms have been read into the situation (i.e were forwarded the above); all but one claimed to be “shocked” by this “clown” who they believe should “blacklisted,” before passing it on. The exception was a representative of Jefferies, who said that JEF could use a guy like JC.

What this kid did is pretty standard practice. Fake an offer, fake your comp. It happens all the time and people get busted for it all the time. It’s the email trail that screwed this guy.
A lot of haters on this board. You never know, the day could come when you’ll be forced to bluff for your dinner. That said, a junior analyst job is not the place to go all-in with 7-2 offsuit.

Oh yeah, I’ve never met an investment banker who didn’t complain when they weren’t provided with first class travel and accomodations either – analysts and associates as well – so this kid again fits right in.

And they call this kid a joker?

HR are the morons of this industry .. give him a break, he has studied well and in this market atleast he wasnt as desperate as fake his degrees and work ex. Still bad demanding all those hotel etc. Poor guy, hope galleon takes him in.

  63. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 10:44 AM

@48, if you re-read my post I said the thing that screwed this guy was his that he left a paper (email) trail.
You don’t think it’s standard practice for people looking for a job to overstate their comp? Or to overstate their responsibilities? Like the programmer at Goldman who suddenly because head of Quant Trading when it came time to look for a new job? Everybody is out there puffing themselves up one way or another. Wall Street is the steroid Olympics of resume fluffing. I hate to say this but maybe you should go back to yahoo!finance

Not only was he working at Gulfstar in Houston and Harvard in Boston, but, if you read a little further down, he was ALSO part of the Financial Analyst Program at McCombs from the Spring of 2009 to the present. Who wouldn’t want to offer that little go-getter a job? Based on his resume, he could easily be faking trade blotters at 2, 3, or dare I say even 4 different Wall Street firms at the same time.
He shouldn’t be black listed for lying. He should be black listed for doing it so poorly and stupidly. Wall Street loves a liar, they just want some thought and effort to go into it.

For instance everybody who farted even once on a trading floor is suddenly a trader. The shoeshine guy at my old shop is going around claiming to be a trader and people are buying it. Wall Street: money talk, bullshit talks as well.

“So during winter 2007-2008, Merrill Lynch has a four week long internship.
It invites five interns. They shall go unnamed except for Jeffrey Chiang. Jeffrey Chiang is a student at the University of Texas at Austin and formerly interned at Goldman Sachs. *I am not one of the interns*. I have no proof of this, and all I have is my word.
Internship: cold calls, generate sales lead. A large part of the internship included cold calling and selling some of ML’s products to them. This selling part also included getting their email for newsletters.
What Jeffrey Chiang did: instead of calling, he sat there all day. Then, to prove his worth, he made up emails such as… charlie@gmail.com
Well, what about bounceback (when an email is sent and returned because the address does not exist?). Well.. Jeffrey Chiang, although unethical, is quite smart. He pressured the person typing the emails in not to type his.
Basically, everyday when Jeffrey Chiang turned in his sheets containing emails, none of the emails were typed in, but to the supervisors, it appeared as if Jeffrey was contributing.
It gets even better. When Jeffrey Chiang’s practices were finally uncovered, a quick call to all the interns and database check showed he was guilty. Nonetheless, he vehemently denied his actions. Even though he blatantly admitted them to the other interns.
The next day, Jeffrey attempted to bribe one of the interns to keep his mouth shut. $20 for not saying anything. I think the look on the intern’s face summarized the intern’s reply.
Today, Friday, is the last day of the internship. Several are still there. I, obviously, am not. I have decided to let the world know, that Jeffrey Chiang is scum.
People like Jeffrey Chiang is what the subprime is in trouble.”

I assume most people hope that no one finds out about the stupidest things they have ever done in their lives. While I haven’t done anything I would consider this egregious, I have certainly done some stupid things that I sincerely hope do not show up on db or anywhere else.

@117 Collusion occurs when two persons or representatives of an entity or organization make an agreement to deceive or mislead another. Such agreements are usually secretive, and involve fraud or gaining an unfair advantage over a third party, competitors, consumers or others with whom they are negotiating. Collusion can involve price or wage fixing, kickbacks, or misrepresenting the independence of the relationship betweeen the colluding parties.

FYI, I knew Jeff from high school and am surprised he even got into college and went to McCombs. He faked a transcript and letter of rec to get into Penn’s Wharton and was caught (for the same reasons this resume was flagged). Needless to say, those of us who disliked his character in high school are rejoicing today.

HR departments at competing firms are not supposed to discuss candidates. I have a few friends who were fired from current jobs because their bosses “somehow” found out that they had been interviewing. We now have proof of this action. There shouldn’t be blackball status. If MS or BAML wanted to get the word out on this kid, they could have issued a press release. At the least, they could ask if he was given an offer, and recieved a yes and no reply. The recruiter knew already that he had not recieved an offer, showing that they talk about almost all candidates.
I recieved the original email string and am happy to post the names/emails of the BAML, MS, LEHMAN, UBS employees who spread this around saying thinks like “don’t hire him.”
    Lemme know if interested…

  142. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 12:48 PM

@141 – What law prevents HR at different firms from talking exactly? While it may be a company policy not to talk with other HR groups, or from HR discussing interviews, candidates, etc, there isn’t an actual law preventing it. Moreover, by constitutional right the people involved have the right to express their opinion about JC. Your statement is about as intelligent as saying “whistleblowers shouldn’t say anything because it might look bad”. Idiot.
And they aren’t blackballing illegally, or colluding to fix wages etc, they are simply saying he’s a lazy fraudster and, after reviewing the facts on hand, have decided they will never hire him.

These companies are supposed to be competing. If one knows the kid is an idiot, they should want the others to hire him. By sharing private information and making a collective decision (aparently this is differnt than collusion somehow), they are violating anti trust laws (criminal suit). Additionally, you interview under the guise of anonymity, which has obviously been violated. (civil suit). When I interview, I expect that the company I’m interviewing with will not be contacting other companies about my success or failure. That’s a given. If I interview at MS, and they find out GS didn’t take me, and then “ding” me for that reason, there is an issue

  171. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 1:31 PM

#167/tax chick – There is a difference between colluding (the word) and collusion (the legal term and). Any two people discussing a plan of action regarding something/someone in private is considered colluding, though it may not legally be collusion. I believe that’s what 117 was saying.
Colluding – v. – to act together through a secret understanding, esp. with evil or harmful intent.
That’s exactly what these HR reps were doing.

U.S. antitrust law has three main elements:
    1. prohibiting agreements or practices that restrict free trading and competition between business entities.
    2. banning abusive behavior by a firm dominating a market, or anti-competitive practices that tend to lead to such a dominant position.
    3. prohibiting transactions that are considered to threaten the competitive process.

There is a LEGAL blackball status for anyone in the business licensed with FINRA. It’s called a U5 filing. The cost of the removal process for most “dinged” employees who are more junior in their careers, is more than the benefit of finding a new job in the industry.
Plus with banks in NY and other states protected with the same rights as politicians against defamation (ie. absolute priviledge from defamation of character action) their risk in blackballing someone goes only as far as the cost of the arbitration process and legal fees (maybe $100k all-in).

To be honest, he is a socially inept kid. He must sweat profusely and twitch in public when he’s in the United States. His father and mother most likely owned a grocery stand and shouted at people trying to bargain with them in the streets of Hong Kong. He has that cut-throat business craftyness (but not necessarily intelligence) within him, and he because he is in the US and attended business school, he has a strong sense of self-entitlement. The reason that this makes many people upset, is that most American kids of “generation Y” (Kids who graduated from undergraduate college as the class of 2001 and later)have a sense of self-entitlement that they are blind to, because it festers like a golden stick up their asses. Because this kid is foreign, it sparks outrage because most people, believe it or not, don’t like looking into the mirror, and would hate it more if their reflection spoke in a different accent than they did. If I were in touch with the Wall Street inner circle, I would ban anyone younger than age 30 that has a prick-like smirk on their face when they show up to an interview. “Yes we can”…..

  183. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 1:54 PM

It feels like there are a lot of angry college kids posting on this page (who may or may not be nervous about fluffing up their own resumes for this recruiting season) who are really pushing the limits on their knowledge of law from one business law class in undergrad (i.e. the collusion argument)… Shouldn’t you ideologues be excited that we (the companies that are looking to hire you) are reaching across company lines to keep the future Bernie’s and RajRaj’s off of Wall Street?

Hint to college kids here: People who actually work, and/or have worked for quite some time in the fields in which you aim to become employed read Dealbreaker. Thus, you are advised to STFU unless you think you know more than them (which you don’t).

    @AB
Well, let’s see.. first we have to pick the venue. Federal courts are more defendant friendly, so we’ll bring the case in state court. Wait! The defendants are in several states and countries. Drat! Federal court it is. Oh, but now we can raise our anti trust claim! Awesome. Okay, federal court it is.
Next, certification… let’s see… The proposed class must consist of a group of individuals or business entities that have suffered a common injury or injuries that applied to all proposed class members in a uniform manner. Right! Uhm… we got fired. Okay, anyone who got fired for being a shitty employee and then couldn’t get a job at another bank. Right…check!
Lastly, damages…. hmmm… I could have made millions (See Bernie, Raj Raj) Done!
I’m a genius. Now if my law degree from Pheonix University will hurry up and get here, I can also collect the legal fees. Rock star status here I come.

You can check his references et al, but you cannot discuss past yea or nay answers. I’m sure he can sue and win, but the damages may not be sympathetic to some who commits fraud? Forgery? Identity theft?

And to the sub 1L lawyers emerging, I don’t really see a premise for suit. Truthful emails were sent out and got leaked. His resume appears to have been pulled from UT’s publicly available resume book. It’s not like Vayner, where his magic tape was given out by the firm. It sucks for him but I don’t see the basis for suit. At this point it might be worth a shot though.

  249. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 3:34 PM

@219 This isn’t simply one HR person calling another to say “oh we have this candidate we know lied, and please don’t hire him because we’re mad at him”. See that could be grounds for a lawsuit if you had a good enough lawyer. The HR person at BofA/ML thought it seemed suspicious and therefore checked through a friend to see if it was true. Through a basic fact-check they found out he was playing one off the other and was lying the whole time. Pointing out fraud isn’t actionable or illegal, and more importantly, what are his damages? You can’t claim lost wages because he wouldn’t be hired in the first place. Because he was committing fraud.
Moreover, what assumption or right to privacy do you have over going in for an interview? As long as they weren’t discussing specific answers given in the interview that could be deemed private in some way, there’s little ground for any kind of claim. Saying he has grounds for a lawsuit in this instance is like saying someone who wasn’t hired based on a background check has grounds for a lawsuit.

HR’s can not call eachother and discuss candidates. You can check his references et al, but you cannot discuss past employment success. Additionally, these HR reps had been discussing him even before the email fraud. The message states “since you dinged him,” thus the person wasn’t just checking, but regularly discusses candidates.

    1. Everyone in the business talks to each other. You want to know why? It’s because it’s a small industry and we all work with each other in one way or another. It ain’t like the movies, even though we all want to destroy the competition, we might be/have been colleagues with the guys across the lines at one point or another. The email between bankers on this scumbag liar is standard practice. Get over it.
    2. There is no excuse for what this kid did and any argument to the contrary is moot. Any lawsuit brought to court would be summarily destroyed by the highly paid legal teams employed by and on retainer for our firms.

52 obviously worked at Dean Witter and followed it up with a stellar stint at Pru-Bache in the late 80s and early/mid-90s – never got to fly first class (although has upgraded to business with his “miles” a few times) and has grown to tolerate the DoubleTree and their hot chocolate chip cookies at check-in. Clearly stuck at a TARP baby now after bouncing around among Robbie Stevens and Weisel during the tech boom never quite hitting it right. Sitting on a $3 million mortgage (which he got from his TARP baby) on a 4 bedroom, 4,500 sq ft house (he rounds up to 5k – counts the unfinished basement with a 6.5 ft ceiling) in Fairfield County that he “traded up to” in 2006. Loves his leased 911 almost as much as his wife loves her leased Range Rover. The only thing he truly controls in his life is the decision over what analysts/associates he’s going to recommend after Super-Saturday. Aside from driving that leased Porsche in his baseball cap and shades on weekends, nothing gives him more pleasure than blackballing some kid he thinks isnt “investment banker material” like him……

  293. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 4:32 PM

Make an example out of him to the other students so that they will think twice before ever pulling this shit.

This has gone too far. I agree that this is completely his fault and he brought it upon himself, but this really should have stayed in the realms of the banking industry/McCombs & UT. People need to calm down and stop overanalyzing everything. Comments such as “If he commits suicide today, we’d be fine with it” are horrible and unnecessary. The guy is stupid, tactless, and a liar. He isn’t Hitler.

  322. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 5:06 PM

This guys is the perfect banker. Being on the buy side, I’m constantly catching them in their lies and they constantly try to push deals while hiding the information that would make you hesitate to invest in a deal. A good analyst can stop a lying banker/slanted pitchbook a mile away. I wonder if these bankers who found out were once on the buyside.
Bankers are salesmen and will lie through their teeth to make a deal and get those fees. Seems like this guy did the same thing, just got caught.

This guy is not only unethical but really got it wrong about the risk managment. I’ve heard many people fake their resumes and inflate their compensation but fake a counter offer? What is the upside? Especially when you don’t have the offer yet, you should be more humble and careful about what you say. The reason he got screwed today is he is treating other people like idiots.

  352. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 5:35 PM

Let’s take this for what its worth. A couple of comments:
    (1) Jeffrey lied about a job offer and because they asked for proof he went further down this path and got caught. He lied. That being said, if we were are saints in this world, we would be in a place to write 300 comments telling him to kill himself. The reality is that we aren’t; at some point throughout everybody’s careers, mistakes in judgement are made and they are held responsible for the conquences. Normally, people get a slap on the wrist, and you make sure never to make the same mistake again. In this kid’s situation, he made a mistake and will likely suffer for it for the next 5-10 years. That really sucks.
    (2) That being said, these comments about ‘killing yourself’ or whatever, really need to stop. Think about this 21 year old kid who was so pressured to succeed that he would sacrifice his ethics; truth is, this kid is probobly actually thinking about killing himself at this point. Your ‘funny jokes’ could be thought of as just as unethical, if not more unethical, as the judgement Jeffrey made.
    (3) This should really be taken as a lesson to Undergraduate business schools. This kid is a product of his surroundings and education; I would venture to guess that the McCombs school has a culture that would promote this type of behavior and that other business schools are similar. A serious re-evulaiton should be made in their curriculams such that this type of behavior isn’t promoted.
    Thanks.

Hmmmm interesting there’s actually some tort law that shows that for the sake of a private individual truth may not be a defense in cases where it was shared maliciously. OOOOOPPPPPSSSSS guess that lets the first two off the hook, but everyone forwarding this around laughing at the guy may be in trouble.
Is this enough to shut up everyone on this damn thread who is saying get a law degree or STFU?
Any decent lawyer would pull up this case law and go to town creating doubt, and then get a settlement.

    things like:
    “Check out this nightmare”
    or
“Read from the bottom up hilarious”
Those people don’t have the same claim as the original forwarders as they’re not sharing truthful information out of need, they’re doing it out of spite, or malice.
I’m done here because I am not a lawyer, just someone who is interested in law. When you hang out with lawyers they teach you to be scared to hell because someone doesn’t need a fullproof case they just need a case, and then you usually settle because the risk is too great.

So yes, I guess I can get my panties in a bunch for an undergrad diluting the “name” of the MBA students. I fail to see how I, or the rest of my class are a bunch of wannabes though. Care to explain?

    #10 according to businessweek
    http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/
my assumption is that you dont have an MBA, or if you new anything about energy banking that a UT MBA is gold in Houston, we turn down Harvard and Wharton MBAs all day long, guess why? because you didnt go to UT! plus we likely only have a couple of spots and it is going to go to the kid that could do informational interviews and is our local focus school. plus UT has the only energy finance concentration of a top 20 school. possible that most Harvard and Wharton MBAs are not looking for a job in Houston or Texas but if you are, UT is almost a requirement. Plus you are retarded as Chiang is an undergrad. Hook em! and OU still sucks!

  394. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 6:38 PM

i never saw a discussion board more concerned with grammar? isnt this a discussion board? most people are trying to type fast as if they work on wall street they are most likely typing on an iphone or other handheld as almost all banks block this sight. if not you probably dont work for a bank so why would you even read this, get a life and stop reading about an industry you do not understand or are not involved in…

I don’t understand what the fuss is all about? This guy is a genius. Wall Street thrives on folks like him. I am telling you what’s gonna happen. The Banks will make a mockery of his act for a while and they will end up hiring him. Don’t blame the kid, at least he had the guts to make an attempt to pull this off. So, Jeffery, aside from completely destroying your life and your future, what else is new? :D

  451. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 7:40 PM

    @444
Good question. Is there any possible lemonade scenario? I have seen some commentary about reality TV… not likely. He really doesn’t has much in the way of interpersonal skills or onscreen personality.
I went to school with this joker, and now work for a BB I-Bank. I shit you not when I say that it was his life dream to work on Wall Street.
Law school is realistically out of the question (though the typical fall back plan for wannabe bankers).
Obviously has doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on for a tort case.
His only chance at retail would be if he chianged his name (and resume…)
His parent have some money, so it is possible he could hit the couch for a few years of self torment.
I have no damn clue where he could possibly fit in after this. He is as unemployable as Steve Bartman.

  452. Posted by Transparency | October 22, 2009 at 7:41 PM

And the rest, as they say, is history.
@424: It should be painfully obvious that the rest of these “clowns” are not my friends.
@439: By the look of your message, it appears you’re just as big of a jackass as any other schmuck that frequents this site. And, no, I’m not trying to scary anyone, or something. I don’t expect anyone to go to jail but I do expect everyone to be accountable for their own actions–yes, including this Jeffrey Chiang character. Also, your pseudo-threat is ridiculously funny… To me, at least. You give these “bigshots” and the (my) “IP address” more credit than they deserve.

  458. Posted by John Meriwether | October 22, 2009 at 7:49 PM

Haha @455 you’re not trying to SCARY anyone? Sure hope not!
And how does posting emails “keep people accountable” anyways? Please do explain. And assuming somehow this does “keep somebody accountable,” who gave you the right to do so, anyways? And I’d venture to say that you are indeed running a larger risk of getting yourself in trouble, as @439 said, than those who forwarded the emails. In case you didn’t see them, there are a whole bunch of confidentiality notices tacked on at the end of the thread.
For example: “Any distribution, copying or other use of this E-Mail or the information it contains, by other than an intended recipient, is not sanctioned and is prohibited.”
Therefore, you actually violated that policy, whereas those who sent the email (LIKE ME!) were completely within their rights to do so.
P.S. You didn’t post my name. Nanny nanny boo boo. I guess you didn’t get the opportunity to teach me a lesson. Maybe next time!

I noticed you mentioned confidentiality notices tacked on at the end of the thread. I’m sorry, there were no such notices.
Thank you, however, for bringing the non-existent notices to my attention. It makes me feel better knowing that I may have violated something that doesn’t apply to me.
I don’t care about posting your name or any other name. I posted whatever I had because I thought it deserved to be out there with the rest of this tomfoolery.
@462: Thanks for posting a sensible response to my dribble. I apologize for getting in the way of the comments you want to see. That said, I’m done.

Also, it’s important to keep in mind that his ethnicity has nothing to do with his behavior. There are jerks like him here… there …everywhere.

  466. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 8:10 PM

    @464
You may not have posted the confidentiality reminder, but every firm has them and you just posted emails in a public forum. If someone wanted to they actually could find out your IP and go after you. Just because you didn’t post the part of the email with the confidentiality notice doesn’t mean you don’t have to abide by it.

  467. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 8:33 PM

    @ 355
Respose to your pt 1.) Yes this kid might have f’ed up, but it’s this kind of behavior that if left unpunished today, would eventually turn into the future Danny Pengs/Mark Driers of the world.
your pt 3.) blaming UT/McCombs for this kind of behavior is grossly unfair to the school. I went to McCombs, and I can assure you that the environment there does not breed this type of behavior. A bad apple like him can pop up anywhere and bring down the reputation of the school/firm that they are associated with. It’s also a cheap excuse for, again, the mistake that Jeffery should have been responsible for as an individual.
This kid mistreated the travel agent so much about getting booked at the Four Seasons. He doesn’t sound like a poor over pressured to succeed kid that crossed the line. He sounds like your plain vanilla douchebag. I hope McCombs can kick him out, and for sure the BHP program. There are plenty of other deserving kids who would benefit from BHP/McCombs than him. He should lucky to even be allowed to graduate with a UT diploma.

This has to happen because quite frankly no one has the time energy and patience to verify every detail of someone’s resume.
I hired a guy from MIT for an entry level job who claimed to have a 4.5/5 GPA. Don’t get me wrong the guy was bright but not what is GPA showed. So I called him out. On day 1 bring in your transcript. Lo and behold he brings it in and he got a 3.5/5. I fired him on the spot. The sad part was I would have hired him anyway.
Yes I know Wall Street has a reputation of being a haven for a bunch of amoral crooks but the reality is something different. I find compared to a lot of people I deal with in other walks of life we’re not so bad.

This guy is truly brazen, but how he got this far is even more mind blowing. Practically everthing on that resume is a lie – doesn’t even take much investigation. As mentioned certain schools don’t even offer some of the programs (stern in winter,no honors advertising program at UT) – a simple transcript would prove that). Isn’t that why they do background checks (transcripts, etc) or is that reduced to a formality now?

  508. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 10:39 PM

Wouldn’t surprise me if this guy didn’t graduate this coming may. I’m sure that there are some rules about falsifying info on the university’s systems.

  509. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 10:40 PM

@502 “bad mistake”? Are fucking joking? A bad mistake would be a typo on his resume (which he does have). What j. chiang did was a mortal sin. He deserves everything that’s coming to him. Stop trying to defend such a dbag.

  510. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 10:49 PM

    @502
Stop acting like this is some honest mistake that he “doesn’t deserve to have his life ruined over”. This was a major fraud and he rightfully should never work in the business.
    @511
Background checks only happen after getting an offer as no one has the time or resources to check every applicant.

On a scale of 1 to Vayner where does this kid rank?

  517. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 11:40 PM

    @513
This kid is getting his comeuppance. This should be between the HR departments of the investment banks on this list, not put on the internet for college kids or analysts like you to ridicule. He’s already been blackballed by all of the respectable IB’s so all of this is just an unnecessary pile-on. This email was NOT supposed to get out but some dumbass analyst forwarded it on and now it has completely blown up.

  518. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 11:41 PM

people have short memories. aleksey vayner got hired for a back office job at morgan stanley like 6 months ago. if he can bounce back so can this kid.

  519. Posted by merkin capital partners | October 22, 2009 at 11:41 PM

@520 He himself has nothing on Vayner. The kid falsified an email. Vayner falsified damn near his entire life and made a movie about it. This story, however, is reaching Vayner-esque proportions.

  521. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 11:44 PM

“some dumbass analyst” um try thousands of people forwarded this on. it has literally made the rounds at every single firm on wall street, top to bottom.

  522. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 11:50 PM

    @525
I know exactly how this got out and have the original email. It was an analyst (that I know) that forwarded it and then it took off from there. You are aware that email forwards do have to start somewhere, yes? BA/ML did NOT want this to get out.

  523. Posted by guest | October 22, 2009 at 11:51 PM

@526 really not sure what your point is. of course it has to start by one person sending it out.

I got the email 3 times to my work and twice to my personal.
If I didn’t get it I’d be questioning my connections to the finance world. Probably the most viral email in the last 2 years…

  527. Posted by shot_caller | October 23, 2009 at 12:01 AM

I had a few classes with Jeff. Half of me says he deserves this, half says he was just being a dumbass and tried too hard to get an offer. He was always a really hyper guy but clearly took it too far.
This is probably embarassing for BOAML/Barcap/MS too, since several VP level guys had their name all over these emails and the whole thing is a shitshow. Doubt they expected every halfway decent bank, consulting firm, and investment management shop would see these emails. Be careful what you forward and say in emails at work…it can grow legs of its own.

  528. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 12:03 AM

  529. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 12:07 AM

Aleksey Vayner didn’t do much wrong aside from producing an incredibly embarrassing “video resume.” This Chiang D-bag forged emails and egregiously lied on his resume. Yeah… it ain’t happening. As far as Wall Street is concerned he’s kaput. Sorry. Thanks for playing, though.

uh, I don’t see how not getting a job at the aforementioned places is having your “life ruined”. Ask the Forbes 400 how many have punched the clock doing IB or shuffling money around on a trading desk.
If the business has room for the likes of Jim Cramer, Meeker, Blodget, Grubman, Noto, every front-running Goldman Sachs trader, Moody’s, S&P and sell-side mortgage analyst, CDO structurers, etc. Chiang can find his way.
    I might send

  543. Posted by Jewess | October 23, 2009 at 2:54 AM

I love how all the Asians start powwowing for Indian blood when the shit hits the fan. Couple of points:
    1. There are tons of BSDs in finance of Indian origin. Get over it. Stop trying to pull people down, work hard; let’s see you make it yourself before you start pointing fingers.
    2. Enough about the chaiwalla + curry type comments. I love chai, and curry. And Chinese food. But you saying things about India and Indians is hilariously stupid considering half of HK (the half that we don’t see on the Olympics, or that is shuttled away from prying ‘unpatriotic’ eyes for developments and other government projects) is an absolute shitsty. India may be a developing country, and has a long way to go, but its given American industries a lot of brains, and good industrious people that we are proud to call fellow Americans. They’re also the kind of people that you don’t feel want their native country to kick the US’s ass, so maybe you can understand why we’re inclined to like them. China, on the other hand, and a lot of Chinese, you get the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am vibe. Just saying. So if India is a developing country, then on merits of attitude alone, China is a third world country.
    3. From 2 it follows that someone will bring up RR/Galleon. Galleon was a major f-ckup, but definitely not Madoff scale. Madoff is one for the books. Think more like Stern, where he’ll get a slap on the wrist, donate some millions and get a school named after him (McCombs, if you’re lucky!) and get going again. And that’s only one Indian of many, the bulk of whom are doing great things on/for Wall Street – VP taking $1 salary, anyone?! Anyway, point is, not all Indians are RR, there are Singhs and Pandits, Varadhans and Sharmas and Nooyis and Guptas, too, just like there are Blankfeins and Seidenbergs and Loebs for every Madoff/Boesky/Fuld. Leave it be!
    4. Also regarding 2 – not that anyone could expect more from rabid CCP spawn, but you should probably do some introspection. All the Indians I know, whether BSDs (yet) or not, have a pretty good sense of humor. They even – get ready for this!- make fun of themselves! And laugh! (Heard of LSO?) Stop thinking everything is about you, and that everything remotely related to you is racist. Yes, there are plenty of Peter Chung/Lucy Gao/Andrew Peng/Jeffery Chiang types out there, but then again there are so many Asians in general – there’s always hope, right?
    That is all.

  544. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 3:13 AM

I don’t understand why there is such large scale smear campaign underway for this so called Jeffery Chiang. (fictional or real)Judging from his resume, he is just another dumb @$$ undergrad. There are plenty of them out there, why all of sudden there a need to make an example out of him? Reading the original article, it almost sound like the author went as far as to personally notified every well know wall street firm about the atrocity committed by this guy? So ok everything did happen, out of all the firms in banking industry, for everyone of the firm he did notified, there are 100 smaller but just as well paid firms out there. What exactly is the point here???? Plus, in China if you are one out of a million, there are 1300 people just like you. Now imagine how many people with the same name Jeff Chiang? There got to be thousands? So what is purpose of this whole fiasco? Together with this Jeff Chiang, whoever wrote and posted the original article is a dumb @$$ himself.

  546. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 4:08 AM

yeah Dealbreaker and Wall Street Oasis are ridiculous for having this story on their sites, searchable by Google. Even if a lot of junior bankers had this email in their in-box, in 2-3 years no one would remember this incident and his life could go on.
The guy was overeager and did something stupid- but he’s 21 for Chrissakes… no need to destroy his entire career trajectory- even outside finance, people will not want to give this guy a chance… EVER.
shame on you Bess for allowing this. I hope when everyone’s had a field day with this story, you’ll remove the post from your site- I’m sure Chiang has gone through abject misery the past 48 hours… and has full well learned his lesson.

  547. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:18 AM

@551 shame on BESS? get a clue buddy. shame on your damn friend for LYING, over and over, forging an email, impersonating someone and so on. and if you think it was just a bunch of junior bankers who had this think again. it went all over wall street, literally.

  550. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:22 AM

@549, there are plenty of them out there? yes, there are plenty of undergrads, there are not plenty of undergrads who would do something like this. do you really not get the gravity of what this kid did? he did not just inflate his resume. jesus.

  551. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:26 AM

@553 why should it be taken down? jc is a little shit who not only lied but committed a crime (the forging of the email/impersonating diane park is a felony) but chewed out the travel agent and threw a fit about being put up at a 700 dollar/night hotel.

  552. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:30 AM

Don’t be so bitter. What he did hasn’t affected your life in any way, shape, or form. I know you think yourself to be the iron fist of Wall Street vigilante justice but be honest…you’re just enjoying making fun of him and watching someone fail miserably.
I’m pretty sure the kid has learned his lesson now that he won’t get a job in the industry he so desperately wanted to be in.

  554. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:43 AM

@558 I’m in no way bitter. I’m questioning why you feel the need to defend him/demand it be taken down.

  555. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:58 AM

    @ 559
As I said, I’m pretty sure he has learned his lesson. He’s a 21 year old kid, for f_ck’s sake. He’s already been blackballed by all of the banks so there is simply no reason to have a record of it for anyone that pleases to access the story on the internet. If they removed his name/resume from the article, I wouldn’t care. Everyone that needed to know about his shenanigans definitely does. No reason to keep this up for all of the rubberneckers.

Jon Kleinberg and Eva Tardos have to use this as a case study for their “small world” research. Who knows? Advances in routing algorithms will be Chiang’s legacy when all this blows over.

It sounds like a Jeffrey apologist or maybe Jeffrey himself is posting, “oh, he’s only a 22 year old kid…” etc. What a bunch of b.s. The guy is getting what he deserves and maybe a few others out there who try to pull this shit will realize how interconnected the world is and think twice before they try to crap on others.

  560. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 6:54 AM

It’s hard for me to even understand why he did this. He’s an analyst recruit with basically zero bargaining power. Trying to push a bulge into giving you an offer by alluding to another on the table will get you nowhere. He’s a senior in college with essentially zero work experience. Even if MS had believed him, I don’t know why they didn’t tell him to f*ck off initially and take another really qualified kid that is obviously out there in a market like this.

  561. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 6:56 AM

^564 um, who exactly did he “crap” on? Diana Park? I agree it was in bad taste but in light of others’ transgressions, it’s really trivial.
Wall Street isn’t quite the Elysian Fields you think it is, apparently.
Also, I went through undergrad recruiting about 10 years ago, but I’ve never heard of an interviewer demanding “proof” of another bank’s offer.

  562. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 7:06 AM

@566, you could start with the travel agent. And regardless of whether Wall Street is not the Elysian Fields, falsifying your credentials is not trivial and lying about non-existent job offers is not trivial. It’s rookie Madoff.

  570. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 9:06 AM

To all saying Wall Street does this sort of thing by lying all the time, there’s an important point to make here. Wall Street gets away with it until after the fact, where as this idiot gets busted before he even gets a real offer.

  571. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 9:47 AM

the people that atually work on wall street here understand that integrity does matter. hacks watching cnbc drivel about the immorality on wall street have no clue. there are more rules to catch bad guys here than everywhere else- and guys like JC, we do not want them here. for every 1 guy that they parade on a perp walk, there are thousands of people that get demonized. Take your refinanced government assisted mortgage on a house you couldnt really afford and keep blaming wall street for everything. We will always ask each other about a potential hire if you worked with them. its probably the most important information you can get. one poster above said there are at most 3 degrees on the street, and that is absolute. act like a jerk- no one wants to work with you- scream at the travel people when you havent even started means your a pain in the ass. bring a big book of business and they will put you up wherever you want with a smile. good riddance JC

  572. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 9:59 AM

    What @576 says.
I’ve had people’s resumes that I’ve worked with in the past come across my desk. Many of these go straight in the trash because they were no good liars that will cover their asses at all cost. Interestingly a lot of them ended up at UBS. That’s not to say that everyone in UBS sucks. I’m just sayin’ is all.

  573. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 10:10 AM

@576 I appreciate the sentiment and all but really, get off your high horse. I work on the street as well- and only the clever and conniving can make it here for the long term.
Since I was in high school I bended the rules to get into a top ivy where similar behavior got me into a top job and then a top 3 MBA program. I, along with my classmates, have cheated on take home exams, in class exams, paid people for problem sets, term papers, etc.
These are precisely the skills you need to get ahead in the business- I mean at the end of the day you have to be resourceful. It’s all about cultivating an edge over people and this is how it’s done.

not inflating it all all. there are jerks in all jobs. we have a small world and do our best to keep JC’s out. @578, dont care what people do in school, and an edge is needed, but there are ways. my point wasnt a halo on the industry, but that its just like work everywhere. @580 yes dispensable, but marketable.

Jeffrey Chiang is America’s golden boy. As a Canadian investment banking hero and all time financial master, I am surprised that all you nit wits didnt immediately close the blinds on your windows and spank a load off to this guy’s resume. On top of academic achievement he is extremely athletic, interested in fantasy football, and fluent in a fantasy dialect (Chinese). Until next time this is the boss of Goldman Sachs politely telling you all to go fuck yourselves.

Get a clue, analysts and associates regularly review resumes, conduct info sessions and do interviews. If I interview a kid and hear he got an offer at my roommates shop, of course I will ask about it. Nothing that happened is at all out of the ordinary. HR is not some magical black box.

@593 The “top job” and “top 3 MBA program” are fishy.

  604. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:07 PM

    @576, @578, @608
Agree with 576, 608 re: 578′s comments. Many of us got here on merit. Some of us were even accepted at top schools without cheating. Shocking, I know. But glad to hear you “bended” the rules, and that you had to pay someone else to do what you were incapable of doing. Maybe you should have kept that money and invested it with Madoff, slacker.
I also agree that a very loud minority can do considerable damage to the reputations of a large number of well-intentioned, hardworking people. I’m not complaining and I’m not seeking sympathy; merely pointing out, like a number of people on this thread, that we try to weed out the bad apples if we can.

    @ all butthurt faggots.
Bending the rules and finding creative ways to get things done is what separates the men from the boys.
Those who live well (the top) get there though hard work or through cunning. Those who combine the two rule the world.
Those who only have book smarts always stop before those who have street smarts in the game of success.

  608. Posted by guest | October 23, 2009 at 5:36 PM

    @612
And I assume you know this because you live well? Ha.
No one is debating the importance of street smarts. There is a difference between cunning and paying someone to write your term papers / faking an e-mail to justify your candidacy.

It is extremely racist to say that his parents probably owned a grocery store just because they’re Asian. For your clarification, they don’t own a grocery store. Just because he did something wrong doesn’t mean you have to insult his family and make assumptions based on his race. Being Chinese does not transition to being socially inept or crafty.

@609 nailed it. I refuse to invest in the market because there are far too many Jeffrey Chiang-type guys working in finance. I’d rather stay with CDs and not deal with the b.s. and dishonesty that has become so prevalent.
I’m glad that Dealbreaker exposed Chiang’s chicanery, because his manipulative amoral behavior, typifies the problems plaguing the financial industry. And the number of comments in this thread indicates there is real concern about such cretinous behavoir.
I also know there are many (hopefully a great many) honest, ethical people working in the finance sector and regardless of the bonuses they may garner, they are only real hope for long-term economic recovery. In fact, the bonus thing is mostly bogus, even if the reaction does demonstrate how fed up a lot of people are with the system.
The Street may not be as pure as wind-driven snow but it doesn’t have to be a cesspool, either.

Jeffrey Chiang is an idiot, but there’s no use tearing the whole McCombs school down. How many high school kids in the US are probably making up crap to put in their college essays right now? McCombs is a good school and JC does not represent it. He’s an idiot and deserves all that he is getting. And by the way, JC is probably of Taiwanese descent. Mainland China doesn’t spell it like Chiang. Incidents like these happen at every business school, it’s just whether you get caught or not.

This is a fake. According to the email, the BofA guy forwarded his warning to someone at Lehman Brothers…come on, Lehman Brothers?? At least the person who made this story up could’ve said AIG or Fannie Mae, both of which are actually still in business.

  640. Posted by guest | October 25, 2009 at 7:26 PM

I re-read the “warning email” from the BofA analyst to other analysts on the street and I call total bs for the following reasons:
-Ummm….Lehman Brothers was one of the banks that this analyst emailed?? That is an automatic tip off that this email is fake.
-”He had spent a summer at Gulfstar, so I did a bit of checking on him there” — no IB analyst has time to voluntarily run what essentially is a post-offer background check on a candidate that they were planning to ding anyways. I wouldn’t even do this for an interviewee at my firm unless we were planning to hire him and I was specifically asked to run a background check after he received an offer letter.
-”our associate happened to mention this to his friend that works in the MS Palo Alto office and the associate at MS said that Jeff had had only had a phone interview” — what a coincidence that his BofA co-worker in NY happened to be friends with the exact MS analyst in Palo Alto who conducted the phone interview. Either that or everyone in that office evesdrops on everyone else’s phone conversations. I work in an office that I am sure is much smaller than MS’s and I have no clue who even the person sitting next to me is talking to on the phone.
-”We have notified UT of this joker’s behavior” — nobody goes through the trouble to do this, not even HR. Dead giveaway that this email was made up.

Investment News published an article by Charles Paikert October 11, 2009. The article was titled ‘Sallie Krawcheck: Why behemoth brokerages will prevail’ A post in response to the article caught our eye that has particular relevance to this situation. “Recycling top management from one firm to another seems only to exacerbate the current problem which is correcting the lack of trust in the process and in the spoken word. The current condition of employee morale within BofA is one of fear. Pumping money into advertising does not address the issue of developing integrity with the customer when there is no integrity standard at the so called behemoth. Case in point was Merrill’s and BofA’s recent devastating treatment of Merrill Lynch’s 1st and 2nd year analysts (trainees) which provides insight into the misplaced culture of the company under the direction of BofA. Merrill and BofA literally wrecked the careers of unsuspecting 22, 23 and 24 year old girls and boys who had been heavily recruited by Merrill. Merrill had the fiduciary responsibility to protect these kids from the BofA culture and an industry gone afoul yet it chose to literally throw out the babies with the bathwater. It is absurd to believe advertising will persuade right thinking people to align themselves with a firm whose moral compass remains dysfunctional. If the desire is to regain the trust and character of the Merrill brand, then BofA shall bring back all those heavily recruited Merrill youngsters as the initial step toward directing the compass pointing at true north”. It would seem the release of this unfortunate JC episode to the public shall do more damage to BAML’s image. The issue should have been handled with sophistication and class yet the behemoth BAML can’t seem to get it right! Goliath should not take on David in public where too many others are impacted.

  642. Posted by guest | October 26, 2009 at 8:14 AM

@idiot. legacy lehmans still had the address. and yeah, when banks think they’re being scammed by a little shit, they do go to the trouble to notify schools (and it’s not like this frequently occurs, despite what you’d like to think that “everyone” does it).

  643. Posted by guest | October 26, 2009 at 4:24 PM

@52 there’s no middle seat in first class.

  644. Posted by guest | October 26, 2009 at 10:51 PM

Yes the guy did show very poor judgement in lying about a job offer and then sending a fake email. However, the recruiter at Morgan Stanley did not have to go this far in publicly ruining his reputation and career. They could have easily just not hired him and notified the University of Texas of his actions if they wanted him to be punished. They did not have to go this far in completely trashing this 22 year old kid’s reputation and career before it even started. Who on Wallstreet can honestly say that they have never lied or stretched the truth in order to get ahead??

How would we like to have been treated when we were 21/22 year old? Part of me thinks that those new recruits need to have that starry eyed naievity knocked out of them. I know their arrogance can be extremely annoying, but seniors should attempt to protect them. They really are just kids. Bright enough to pass the interviews, yet too young and too stupid to realize their employer is not their ersatz parent and will not hesitate to drop them like a hot rock in times of trouble.

  660. Posted by Gus | October 28, 2009 at 2:30 PM

@671 and others suggest reading Post 179 to become familiar with the term absolute privilege. BBs can file a bogus U5 termination with FINRA and it shall cost between 100-200 thousand dollars to arbitrate and expunge a record. Today it will take a year or more to get a hearing if you can find the money to finance the project. FINRA does not self-police bogus U-5s. The BB also knows not many kids have 100-200K to spend on attorney fees. Most of these youngsters are still paying tuition loans and if they went to IVY then figure 160K or more. Meanwhile forget getting hired until you clear your name and expunge the record. Remember you were terminated because the bank failed and those that ran it into the ground are still lurking somewhere. The U-5 process is actually intended to protect the little old guy from unsavory or unethical individuals. The process was not intended to be vindictive. We recommend the book “The Life and Times of Joe McCarthy”: A Biography by Thomas C. Reeves. The point is BBs can ding you for anything they want and get away with it. McCarthy ruined many careers and the BBs that have not managed their business well can and will do the same thing. They do it with impunity and it is sanctioned by the State of New York. So when signing the contact that says they can fire you for anything, anytime regardless of what you were taught about principle centered leadership, be aware they can also blackball you with a bogus U-5 filing. Most young kids can handle a curve ball, slider, change-up, knuckle ball or what ever pretty well, but dealing with a vindictive HR person can be a life changing experience.

  661. Posted by John | October 28, 2009 at 11:38 PM

Or, you know, you could always track down said HR person and get rid of them. That is, if you are crazy, delusional. I’m not making any suggestions. Just sayin’…

Phew, Gone through these posts and realized that people just need an opportunity to pounce on someone without even looking inside what all things they might have done to achieve their success. I am a grad from one of the top school and “this JC indicent” happens too frequently during campus placements. Since during campus placements many firms conduct interviews at the same time at different locations/rooms, people do have multiple/single shortlists. I have seen people going inside and on being asked how many other interviews/shortlists they have, they make a laundry list despite having none. I have seen people getting job/internship using this tactic despite having zilch knowledge of finance, and people losing out to offers just because they didnt use such tactic. What JC did was same, though on a bigger scale and in a callous (four seasons fiasco, spell mistake etc.) manner.

This dude’s fake resume looks 1000% better than any fake resume I could whip up.

I wonder if the reason this gets so very much interest is because most the people who work (or aspire to work) on wallstreet believe in their core that the keys to success are fraud and lack-of-scruples-ness?

He’s Chinese. Why would anyone be surprised? They don’t know the difference from right and wrong. I work in China now, and I can promise you that this is NOTHING compared to the crap they pull in their homeland. You have to fact check everything when dealing with them, and they view this kind of behavior as just trying to get the job. they feel like it’s your fault if you don’t check around.

I have been botting Pinterest.com for the past few weeks now & have seen some awesome results on account followers, traffic results & best of all, viral traffic with high conversion rates.

Pinterest.com is a relatively new site and has boomed in 2011 when it gained over 13 million users. The site is based upon “Pins”. Pins can be images or videos. These images & videos also contain links to the page that the image came from. Users can also Like & Re-Pin your pins. If they choose to re-pin your pin the original link that you set for the image is also carried through the re-pin.

Pinterest also has a sort of pyramid scheme in place – When you post a Pin it will appear on your follower’s Pinterest homepage. It will also appear on their followers homepages. So it will drop down 2 levels, so having a lot of followers on Pinterest will generate masses of impressions for your pins & also increase your Re-Pin & Follower counts.

In January I thought to give them a try by making up a couple of bots, after the success rates that I was seeing I decided to create a whole package of bots which I have been using non-stop since the day with just a couple of account bans which were caused by excessive spamming & also they even lasted a few days before being shut down!

I have now decided to release this selection of bots to a low number of individuals. A lot of users of these programs could end up filtering Pinterest with too much spam or putting an early death to these bots. I want to continue profiting on Pinterest just as much as I want the buyers of these bots to profit well from them.

You can find all of the details of Pinterest.com & the details of these bots below:

    Pinterest.com Highlights:

Pinterest.com has gained over 13 Million users in 2011, it is one of the fastest growing Web 2.0 sites on the net that is currently ranking 9th of 1349 in social media & has an Alexa rank of 16 in the US, 68 Worldwide!

The traffic from Pinterest is ‘paying’ traffic. It is quite different to Twitter or Facebook where the traffic converts low. I have even had some of my pins gain comments within just minutes with the Pinterest users saying, “Thanks, just bought this”!!!

Every single Pinterest user is either a Twitter or a Facebook member (or both!). The traffic gained from Pinterest can easily be converted to campaigns that you may be running on these social networks.

SEO Benefits: Links from your Pins are do-follow within the Pin description & also the “Pinned from ” areas.

Hitting the Popular pins page can take as little as 50 re-pins. I have had multiple Pins on this page using the tools listed below.

Pinterest allows the use of tags & also hashtags.

Repins contain the link from your description, NOT back to Pinterest.com!

Emails are sent to Pinterest users upon being followed, new comments on their pins & repins of their pins.

Pinterest YouTube Video Submitter Benefits – Include call-to-action annotations within your YouTube videos that you share on Pinterest & you will find that your links will gain a LOT more traffic than YouTube views get you!
