As previously mentioned, it seems Charlie Gasparino has some (cheapskate) fans in New Canaan, who lined up to get their hands on his new book, Up In Smoke, the second it was available at their local library. Now our attention has been directed to the fact that he’s got some rabid followers in Greenwich: every copy of his tome has been checked out or reserved in the last 24 hours. Now, obviously, we wouldn’t dare suggest that the entire state of Connecticut wasn’t waiting with bated breath to read (but not pay for) the definitive book on the crisis. But does this not seem a bit suspect? Clearly if a certain hedge fund manager wanted to keep this from his people, he’d simply have his air force bomb the libraries. But I’m not yet convinced something isn’t up. In related news sure to chap some NYT hide, our New Canaan librarian correspondent informs us of number of copies ordered for the various financial crisis titles:
The Sellout/ Charles Gasparino= 16House of Cards/ William Cohen = 8
Street Fighters/ Kate Kelly = 1
Colossal Failure / Lawrence McDonald = 2
Too Big To Fail / Sorkin = 2

I think the answer is straightforward: Nobody is going to pay to read this, so demand at the library is bound to be high.

"Baited breath" = Chaz after eating several pounds of scungilli.
Posted by guest , Nov 04, 2009 4:29PM
All those books are merely pages of their authors' meaningless, self-serving, self-promoting, bullshit.
They mean nothing, and they teach nothing. No answers. No hard punches.
TGFD won't pay 50 cents apiece for hardback versions of them when they start to show up in a few weeks at the church's weekly used-book sale.
They're not worth the space they would take up in TGFD's library.

Stallone?
Ferrigno?
The Jabroni Pony himself?

enough with the chaz lovefest...bessy, I love you like my long lost jewish sister, but just because no sleeves is willing to lick your sugar walls doesn't mean we want to read about him all day everyday.

@22...the guy who played Furio on the Sopranos would be best.
Posted by pfluger , Nov 04, 2009 4:58PM
I'd go with an offbeat pick for who should play Chaz. I think the Ferrigno and Stallone suggestions are excellent, given their grunting abilities and expert understanding of the financial markets, but I'm going to go with Steve Buscemi:

The only way they let people like Gasparino into Greenwich is if they are delivering pizzas.
Posted by guest , Nov 04, 2009 5:27PM
Obviously, there is a direct correlation in the number of books sold and how much they can bench press.... just sayin'

@25 On the contrary, I never tire of reading of CG. And Bess has done a commendable job of plugging this thing for the last few months, even if it generates page views second only to Dupre. It's nice when loyalty and self-interest go hand in hand. Nevertheless, I will not buy this book.

I'm not a big fan of these books either. But in a few weeks can I repost the idiocy there when these books are still very expensive and making them asstons of cash?

Guest@#41...
Please do repost my #18 in a few weeks, but please realize also...
Many, very recent books by well-known authors always appear at our church's weekly used-book sale. Members buy the latest books, read them, and then take them to the church. It happens all the time.
These pieces-of-shit books will be there too. Have no doubt about that. 50 cents for hardcover, 25 cents for paperbacks. The books are there to encourage people to read more, not really to make money.
Remember also, TGFD's trailer is sitting in Delaware's "Chateau Country" where all the big-shot, rich bastards also live. You know, all of Wilmington's Financial Center elite. Lot of banks and law firms here, you know.
We all go to the same church; socialize sometimes too.
The books will be there; trust TGFD.
