The president did not run for office “to be helping out a bunch of fat cat bankers on Wall Street” (will he say that to the fatties’ faces today at lunch? Stay tuned). This is why, Obama says, the government put in some constraints, vis-a-vis compensation, on the banks that received bailout money, and the only institutions will be paying out “fat bonuses” will be the ones that have repaid the funds. Obama senses, just in a couple cases, that a tiny part of the motivation for places like, let’s say Citi, to pay back TARP may have had something to do with pay. But that’s just a hunch. He’ll ask Vikram to confirm the suspicion in the next few hours.

Obama is correct.
guilty as charged.

Come on, man, stop the populist bullshit and say it loud and proud…
“I AM A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF WALL STREET AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SUCKING ON THE GOLDEN SCROT.”
10-20 million dollar bonuses? Picking the top 10-20 guys and then using their salaries to hate on 35,000 other people is just idiotic!
I’m sure there are politicians pulling in massive coin (esp if we count perks), as are heads of numerous non-banking corporations. And lets leave the “saved the industry” stuff aside – sdaving banks had positive impacts for all businesses, not just banking. Secondly, most of the accused have paid back, so STFU.
Seriously, this banker hating used to be kinda cute, now its just annoying.
Fatso
@3 hello? he already has. campaign contributions anyone?
From the outtakes:
Q: “And knocking off prosties two at a time?”
A: “Right, that too.”
To quote Bugs Bunny, “What a maroon”.
… but the auto unions are deserving recipients of our collective largess?
Go back to organizing the community, or whatever. You fucking bum.
He looks so Glass-Steagall in that video.
@7 two? amateurs.

Why didn’t he say something about Tiger getting majorly papped like he’s a celebrity or something?
~Jon Gosselin
Ohh, Bessy, you make me slap my tummy and giggle!
-Vickles
Obama didnt run to help the “fat-cats” no he ran to help the SEIU. He made that very clear. Their agenda is his agenda.
I watched that interview and am still shocked that even at his age Steve Kroft is still amazing at SOFTBALL.
Yes GS is disgraceful. The idea that they took govt money so AIG could honor their deal makes me want to toilet plunge Barney with Pelosi’s penis. However Obama is just as guilty of pandering and filling the pockets of those he holds close. As usual Obama’s admin is sending multiple messages and cant even agree if the recession is over.
Obama is wrong. Most modern bankers are very well-versed in Information Technology.
-AIG Quant
I heard that our prosecutors are studying how the Chinese legal system deals with fraudulent bankers. What stadium will our guys use? Meadowlands? Will they charge for event parking?
Only a moran would think bankers are self-serving.
~Former Lehman Quant
@18 I see what you did there.
- another former Lehman quant
instead of targeting financial firms that are doing well in this shitty economy and trying to keep them from distributing the wealth to their employees. he should ask himself why other companies arent making money.
Could it be the debt he is creating?
The question mark on how much healthcare will cost small business?
His impending tax on middle class and wealthy?
The possible war tax?
nah…just go after the financial firms Obama…that will fix our economy. Asshole.
who gives a shit about this…have you guys seen maggy brennan’s blouse today? Holy fuck. I am erect.
@20 get laid much or ever? I mean other than jerking off to bloomberg?
Hey at least the heat is finally off of me.
-Evil Chrysler Secured Creditor
@22 I masturbate to the teletubbies
@17
I hear Meadowlands Xanadu has some free space, and come on, let’s be honest, Colony Capital could use the $$
Also edited out of the final piece:
Kroft: Big holiday plans?
POTUS: Hawaii maybe…some body surfing…some Wi..
Kroft: Tiger?
POTUS: Whoooo doggies!!! Can’t help him.
Kroft: Lebron or Iverson?
POTUS: Please.
Kroft: “Hotel Receipt Guy” or “A. Drury, New South Wales, Austrailiar”?
POTUS: “Hotel Receipt Guy”
Kroft: “I Went to MIT and Never Lost Money” guy or “I Don’t Lose Money — I Print It” guy?
POTUS: The MIT guy.
Get what?
@ Naked,
Lay off my schtick.
-Evil Banker
BTW, @ Barry O, I’m still rich! Suck on that pickle you hypocrite!
what exactly is “it” that they are not getting?
@27 and @29 must be AIG employees.
You don’t get it, Obama. Even freaking Citigroup is paying back the Tarp. Who you trying to strong arm here?
I don’t get it.
FUBO
Who died and put the socialists in charge?
WTF is the matter with you guys and the “it” thing??? Every effin’ investment bank has a whole group of employees in “it”. They call it the “it” department and you call them when your computer isn’t working. Jeez.

@34 The American People
Dammit – the rain doused my torch and I forgot where I put that stupid pitchfork. If my head wasn’t screwed on . . .
@34 unfortunately- the GOP
I’m sorry remind me again what practical experience the 1-year President had before he got here. Oh yeah, community organizer. Lets try and cram everything down that we can before the people catch on. You didn’t get elected by the Fat Cats so you need to appease the inner city, right. The inner city is going to pay for health care, for the greening of the economy, for Afghanistan, for a trip to the moon. You must have missed that economics class at Harvard, Barry. Receipts are supposed to equal expenditures – at some point. Better hope the Chinese keep buying our sub prime debt. Remember George Bush’s deficit spending it will absolutely pale in comparison.
The Trustees of Social Security & Medicare dont get “it” either.
What does he mean by “you people”? (it’s an understood you)
@39 – FTW
Obama’s purple lipstick is getting a bit old. He should try a new, more natural shade.
Lloyd just stood up the President. Said his commercial flight was cancelled “due to weather”.
@39….don’t you have some Accounting 101 notes to study before finals?
Tiger Woods looks good in that suit.
Bawney Fwank
@39…you get points for using “appease” but you didn’t throw in “cut and run”, “socialism”, “drive by media”, “LIBERALS” (in all caps) and “redistribution of wealth”.
Please use this “teachable moment” to get your conservative stuff together, so to speak.
~Oberfuhrer K. Rove
Bunker, TX
HAHAHAHA, a few of these “fat cats” have said no thanks to the public flogging scheduled by Obama.
Commercial flight delays ya know. See what happens when we can’t fly private jets.
let me get this straight, fire all of the fat cats who are leading the only business that is actually making money and replace them with the people who are shocked when they find out that credit cards are not free money, and just figured out that Calculus was, in fact, not a Roman Emperor. Talk shit on the people that paid back funds with a 23% annualized return and submit more than 50% of what they make to fund two shitty wars, and a shit ton of retarded pet projects. Lavish praise on the auto industry from whom we will NEVER see any funds returned while parading on CNBC every goddamn day. If you want me I will be in Galt’s Gulch.
Funny how he never had a problem when his wife was bringing homw a fat check working for a M&A law firm
Me? Drive in a car? Remember Corzine’s experiences with that? And, you want me to take a “train”? You’re the one on the “train” pal….th crazy train to Dumbassville….
~Lloyd over on Broad
@48 is right. Despite some awsome gibberish, @48 does reflect well on the fact that the best thinking of the smartest people one could hire for financial work caused a 2 trillion dollar collapse of the banking industry and evaporated the life savings of many who trusted those smart people. I say let those same people start over again and hope that the law of 50/50 odds swings for thee better this time.
@47 wait what? are you serious? link pls.
Don’t worry Barry, I’ll be dare! You can count on me, pal. I don’t fugeddabout my friends when dare down. When things get tough, you can count on da Jabroni Pony!
But Barry, I gotta tell ya, ya sounded like a fuckin’ cacasentenze last night.
I’ll coach ya when I see ya.
-cg
cacasentenze m./f. inv. one who likes to moralize, one who acts like he/she is very smart, a smart ass; (lit.): one who shits sentences.
who’s he calling fat?
@47 – ironic isn’t it! I love the fact that j.d. said fk it, I paid back the tarp so I’m going private. now he’s staring at barry and the others are getting reprimanded via conference call…
A while ago, Mark Haines almost called them pussies for not finding another way to get to Washington. Erin tried hard to not giggle but even she made a few comments.
I use to want this thing forever, y’all can have it back
-Ken Lewis
@55. Haines is a fat circus clown.
I think people here are forgetting that without my intervention none of you would even have a job, nevermind a job and a bonus. Grow up.
BO
Why isn’t anyone reminding Obama that he was one of the community organizers who alined themselves with ACORN to pressure banks to give the fucking loans that caused the melt down!!!
Dick Parsons was one of the guys who missed the meeting but was bale to dial in. Bess do you have that dial-in number?
BHO wasted no time telling Dick he had a great time at their xmas party last night. In fact that was the first thing he mentioned.
Obama= man of the people. i wonder if Will Smith was there.
@BarryO, 58. Really? Your Treasury Sec. created the TARP legistlation? You signed TARP? I thought you didnt take office until Jan 2009.
@ 58 – technically it wasn’t your intervention, it was GWB’s.
@58- I think BO here is forgetting that without his ability to raise our and our childrens’ taxes for our lifetimes, he wouldn’t have anything to intervene with, nevermind a job and a future speaking engagement largesse. Grow up.
“What income group pays the most federal income taxes today?
The latest data show that a big portion of the federal income tax burden is shouldered by a small group of the very richest Americans. The wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 percent of the income but pay 37 percent of the income tax. The top 10 percent pay 68 percent of the tab. Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent—those below the median income level—now earn 13 percent of the income but pay just 3 percent of the taxes. These are proportions of the income tax alone and don’t include payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare.”
http://www.american.com/archive/2007/november-december-magazine-contents/guess-who-really-pays-the-taxes
@58 ahh i see the thick headed BHO dick sucker emerges.
Larry Summers said the recession is over. If you agree with that and it sounds like you do. Then how do you figure your messiah is the guy who did it?
Only 20% of the stim $$ was spent under BHO and jobless numbers despite Admin forecasts of under 8% were wrong when as you know jobless # went to over 10% and are still sitting there.
The auto companies are all still underwater…
The only companies showing a profit are the “fat -cats” and he seems set on ruining their xmas.
GFYM
Please explain how BHO fixed the situation?
@62. Are you implying that 50% tax on an income 2 million is no different than a 50% tax on an income of $15k? Grow up. If you can still afford your caviar you have nothing to complain about.
BO
@63:
Right on. I suspected that @58 was Larry Sinclair, and now its confirmed.
Give me $700 B in a low-cost, guaranteed loan and I could show a profit selling dogshit …
@48 – Yes, Bankster you are SO smart, what with the way you cut the Fed Funds rate to zero and then MADE money buying 10 year bonds at 4%. You are worth every penny!
@62 – Please read the remaining post several times before you go to foxnews to CTRL-C, CTRL-V your reply:
The RICHEST people ALWAYS use the MAJORITY of a society’s services:
- Courts to ensure property rights
- Police to ensure the masses don’t revolt against property rights and take your land
- Police to ensure your wife does not get raped during said revolt.
- Airports to send your kids away for the summer
- Embassies (when your kids get stuck in Turkey with 6 grams of hash)
- Bailouts for your 401K (via a forced carry trade to recapitalize financial institutions)
Those are just first order benefits.
The second order benefits are arguably even greater. You benefit from social day care and a subway system that allows your dry cleaner to a high school drop-out at $5/hr. Otherwise, you’d be paying $10/shirt and 25 bucks for a Big Mac.
Just because you don’t understand how many of the costs of your life have been socialized, does not mean your life is NOT highly socialized, it just means you are DUMB.
@64, yes, the difference is that the second guy is leeching off the services paid for by the first guy (and apparently commenting on dealbreaker)
Hussein talks tough while he oversees giving the store away to Wall St. GW Bush couldn’t have been a bigger patsy than this joker. Change we can believe in is a hoax.
suck a bag of dicks, barry.
@67, your list makes up what % of the Federal budget? I’d guess about 5% since most of the services you are describing are covered by state and local governments..that do not tax 35% of my income, 28% of my cg, or 55% of my estate.
No wonder his wife hit him with a golf club. He is insufferable.
“Have a regulatory system in place so that this does not happen again..” you mean like the NRSRO’s (Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s)? Nice work Pres. Obama.
@64 So, as long as we have something, anything left over after tax means that we should shut up and not complain. OK yeah, that seems fair
Obama seems utterly confused by the fact that after you have given away the farm, you don’t have much to negotiate with. The time for pressing his case was in the beginning of the crisis.
Unfortunately, Obama had no idea what he was doing and relied on Summers’ and Geithner’s compromised advice. Putin and Wen Jiabo are surely taking notes and giggling to themselves. What was that Buffett quote – “If, after half an hour, you haven’t figured out who the patsy is, then you’re the patsy.” Please do sit down Mr. Obama…
I feel like to be president of the US (or of any public company for that matter), coursework in Game Theory 101 should be a prerequisite…
I don’t know if I would call the IT schmoe pulling down a 20K bonus a “fat cat”, but I think I know what Obama was saying in criticizing the financial industry. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to be dishing out huge bonuses to executives after their companies received lifelines from the Fed and Treasury on AIG swaps and all sorts of other worthless sh*t only a year ago. So I agree that “Wall Street” doesn’t get it, but part of it is because Geithner and the other people responsible for laying the smackdown on these firms don’t “get it” either.
But we have been so safe under Obama……
@78 and everyone in Europe really likes us. They even gave him a big shiny medal and let him speak to them in English.
Just ask Will and Jada Pinkit Smith
@79 if they really loved Hopey they would’ve let him speak his native Bahasa.
I propose a windfall tax on the profits the USG is getting from its “investment” in JPM, C, BAC, etc. the proceeds of which can be distributed to the masses to make them STFU!
okay i’ll admit it, i voted for him. where did it get me— unemployment and by the way i worked for one of the banks… in 2012 i will stay home!!
hey 81 u stfu
hey 81 u stfu
hey 81 u stfu
10,20,33,70, all the rest of you bashers – F off. As big a fucking mess the last guy left, this new guy is doing quite a good job in stabilizing things. These bank CEOs are the “STARS” who are gonna “Get us out of this mess?” What a load of putrid diarrhea. It’s coming out of you mouth, turds, you and Fox and the Hamptonites.
If Vikky can’t have his helo drop him at his doorstep, I’ll drink his delicious tears. These guys need a good caning.
39 – easy to say when you have a job.
48 – Stealing money >making money. Learn to distinguish.
62 – Yeah, and the bottom rungs don’t get to benefit from 90% of the infrastructure that was put in place on their backs, with their hard work. Think Beyond the Nose on your Face. (wow, 67, you scooped me!)
58- You Got THAT right. (He maintained it, you morons. GWB **CAUSED** THE PROBLEM. By being an incurious Douchebag. All due respect.)
Also, all you slur-men should put on your hoods and show your true colors.
Chickenshits.
@87 I think you are still drunk from BHO Kool Aide (not a racial slur) but given your position I am sure you will make it one.
I completely understand your not wanting to admit you didnt make avery good life decision voting for a guy who cares more about unions then he does all hard working americans. If you are so thick and so naive to think that this unknown guy from Chicago doesnt have have an entire agenda for redesigning the american economic system then we have zero to talk about. I would have a tiny bit of respect for you if you just told me you agree with a system where the govt dictates your financial value not free commerce. You cannot tell me you were aware of Obama’s position on things when he ran because non of us knew his plans. He never said any of this. he said he would be fair, transparent and fix our broken govt. Has he done any of that? He gave Medical Care to the Senate to decide and they did it behind closed doors. he threatened the insurance companies not to speak out against the bill. he has no idea what he is doing and you sir are a fool for believing in this man. This is not a racial thing, its a human thing. You bought a bill of good thats going to fuck your children for life!
The more people like you call it racial the more and more…its clear you have no idea what is going on.
@88 I am not sure what u mean by slur men but I happen to be a woman who voted for him and is now uemployed so as stated before he lost me because I wisened up!
@86 – trust me, the banks do not give a rats ass about the unemployed nor the masses. And unfortunately, the prez is just posturing to those who do not understand capitalism.
@88 I am not sure what u mean by slur men but I happen to be a woman who voted for him and is now uemployed so as stated before he lost me because I wisened up!

@ 86- yeah, he’s done a great job at stabilizing things (i.e. – unemployment above 10%)
@92 you honestly think any president could keep unemployment under 10% now or starting a yr ago?
Fat Cat: \ˈfat-ˌkat\ noun 1. : wealthy and privileged person 2. : used as a polite form of “huge pussy.”
@93 If Chuck Norris were President unemployment would be negative.
Total Dbag. I am saddened we can’t find any better on either side of the aisle. Go back to the community, and take your lies with you.
No more time to chat; I have to WORK!
@92 the Peace Prize wining messiah gave himself a B+ as a grade for his first year. What would you give him?
I mean tell me what he has accomplished? Just name stuff the man has actually accomplished. Give him the credit he deserves…go for it.
I am right here waiting…
remember “YES WE CAN”was his slogan. He promised things. So now is your chance to tell us what he has done.
i meant that for 93!!
-97
(86/88 here)
Douchebags, I address you.
(91 – where did I say the banks gave a damn about anyone but themselves? And the CEOs seem to know how to set themselves up real nice for the future, screw anyone else.)
Under GWB, starting in 2007 and through the end of his term, if we had continued under his leadership, we’d be at 20% “unemployment” (probably around 27% REAL unemployment).
I wish you complete moronic Obama-bashers would start coming up with SOLUTIONS rather than blather about how the country is going socialist and they’re gonna “tek awayh yer medusin!”
It amazes me how ignorant you people (yup I said it) are to the shithole that is the American Medical System for all but the priveleged few.
Mr. Obama has been in office for a year. Accomplishments:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/behind-the-numbers/2009/10/assessing_obamas_accomplishmen.html
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/29/obamas-first-100-days-10_n_192603.html
What have the repubs accomplished? Successfully stalling many of his initiatives. “Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to Suffering.” Well played, “Patriots.”
91 – sorry to hear you are unemployed. If GWB was still around, you’d have been unemployed even sooner, and no gov’t help, because that is for the ‘weak and incompetent,’ according to Republican Dogma. I wish you best success in your job search.
#67, you’re too honest, brah. Way to speak truth to idiots.
#86- Props to you too.
#48- Did you really write “Galt’s Gulch”? Seriously? What douchebaggery, even by DB standards!
@99 the only important take away from your rant was asking us to come up with a solution. You mean “pick up a mop” like Obama said. Thats very interesting.
It goes directly to the point that this guy says one thing and does another. Asking Republicans for help? Thats not something we have seen yet. So for you to ask us for help on DB is one thing but for that to matter it needs to be done by Obama. he ran as a centrist democrat hell bent on bipartisan legislation. All we have seen are closed doors and bills that at best have a low approval rating and without one Republican vote. Obama has lied to you and is clearly a different President then he was a candidate. I hope you do back this guy. It will teach you a lesson.
I ask you one more time…WHAT HAS HE DONE?
#101- Hold up there a minute. Not the biggest BHO supporter here. But the guy did extend a hand to Republican fucktards, and what did he get in return? Motherfucking lies about “death panels” and “socialism”. Seriously, voting fopr McCain/Palin worked for you, did it? Seriously?
@102 cooperating with Republicans to craft bipartisan legislation and asking them to collaborate on a Democratic-party agenda are two different things.
@ #103- And this is a fact of the disfunction of Congress/Senate no matter whose ass sits in the oval office. We all have to accept that. The Democrats are the only party with an “agenda”? Like BushCo didn’t ram shit down Democrats’ throats?
@104 Bush ramed shot down there throats but you have to admit he was more bipartisan then this horse shit circus. Closed doors, 5 senators and Rahm Emanuel to draft a bill that effects 1/6th of our economy and 100′s of millions of people? Dont defend this charade, it makes you sound like an idiot.
@67 – Really? You think the federal government pays for police forces to save us from getting raped? Courts also dont tend to be a federal expense (save some). You pay airport taxes when you take off and land – its a consumption tax, which is fair (if there is an additional levy that comes from other taxes, I’m unaware of it). How much of the US’ budget do you think is dedicated to Embassies?
You pick horseshit or non-federal expenses to show how the rich consume the most and should be taxed the most at a federal level? I’d wager that unemployment benefits cost MUCH more than embassies do. I’d wager that spending on federal-level courts could easily be dwarfed by healthcare. Lets not kid ourselves, the biggest donors to the tax base are, without question, the top earners. The biggest recipients of state largess are the lower end of the economic spectrum. Back to huffingtonpost with you!
