On Monday it was announced that Steve Cohen’s ex-wife, Patricia Cohen, had switched attorneys, from Paul Batista, a prominent RICO specialist, to Gaytri Kachroo, who is not a litigator. Supposedly the ex-Mrs. SAC did so because she felt her case “wasn’t getting the attention it deserved.” Apparently this came as a surprise to Batista, who, in a motion to withdraw, claims that Patty Cakes never once complained about the quality of his work (and in fact praised it), that he was in contact with her “virtually every day” since they started working together, and that he was informed his service would no longer be necessary when PC’s new lawyer called him up and identified herself as the lady of the night’s new representation (he also gets in a nice zing about having never heard of PC’s new squeeze I think– I think– implying the woman’s a nobody in the legal world.

So, okay. Adding yet another layer of batshit manifest to the story, we’re told by sources familiar with the matter that those close to the P.Cohen camp were upset with the man hours Batista put in on the case, or lack thereof, and over the fact that he put together what was perceived by the legal community as a shitty, hack job of a filing, which made it appear as though Patricia is a hustler who’s trying to, you know, shake down her ex-husband for money or something. Which, you have to hand it to him (them? her?) it kinda did!

“Literally” does not mean “additional emphasis”. Sloppy writing; probably indicative of overall work.

@3 um, where do you see the word literally in this post?

i like that it was the filing that made her look like a hustler.

Aside from the fact that Batista makes it sound like Kathroo literally called him ‘literally out of the blue’….how the hell does someone call someone ‘out of the blue’, literally?
…and I’m kinda with #1 on this one. Can we talk about brists, money, sordid fetii, or pop music?

@7 you know why you should stfu? b/c if you’ve ever read DB more than once, you know that there will be plenty of breast posts or otherwise depraved things throughout the day. this is about SAC’s crazy ex-wife, so obviously it’s going to be covered, as will the breasts. sit down and shut up.

  10. Posted by guest | January 6, 2010 at 9:09 AM

so…is PC saying she’s *not* trying to shake down SC for money?

  11. Posted by CoveredLong | January 6, 2010 at 9:09 AM

@8 – Sooo the brists will be covered…in what exactly? There’s at least 100 different things I can think of off the top of my head (no pun intended).
…oh, and adding a question mark at the end of a statement doesn’t make it a question, douche?

  12. Posted by guest | January 6, 2010 at 9:11 AM

@11 no, you’re right. breasts will not be mentioned on DB today. they never have been, ever.
    douche.

the problem with the law in this country is – just because you were married does not entitle the other spouse to claim monetary “rewards” over someone elses wealth infinitely. should there not be an accord, divide assets and support for the same number of years married, unless children involved, then support for them until 21? clean break thereafter…..wtf is wrong with this woman. just because Steveie has been so successful does not entitle her to share in the rewards of his work. do you think if he was a truck driver she would still be looking for more cashola?

    @17 – Why?

  19. Posted by InfiniteGuest | January 6, 2010 at 11:26 AM

By “attention” one imagines that Ms Cohen means “embarrassing media coverage,” especially television. Mr. Batista regularly appears on television. Ms Cohen first learned of Gaytri Kachroo on television.
Like many of us she may have an inflated opinion of the level of interest the general public has in her ex-husband.

It’s my opinion Batiste’s work ethic leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Also, his last filing is indicative he forgot what attorney-client privilege is all about. Maybe it’s time for Paul to go back to law school.

Batista could have at least sent the complaint to Nussbaum. Until he is actually granted permission to withdraw, he has a duty to prosecute the case.

I would love to hear the SAC spokesman explain the dozens of deals SAC did with NASD-Banned Howard Appel (Philly-mob-backed) and Canadian exile Mark Tompkins (Vancouver-mob-backed) in making his “sagacious” hedge fund bets. That should be very interesting…
She was right to get a new lawyer, but it should have been a BETTER RICO lawyer, because that’s what Stevie Boy is all about! If Stevie’s in a deal, the Fix is in, too…
