It’s “a no brainer” to sell short Treasuries, Nassim Taleb, a principal at Universa Investments LP in Santa Monica, California, said at a conference in Moscow today. “Every single human being should have that trade.”

I’m confused. How is it possible for every single person to be on one side of a trade?

don’t quite think i’d consider a +1-00 move in 30′s to be that significant, especially since we had a -1-00 move the other day before.

@3/5: other animals could be long treasuries

  11. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 12:48 PM

@5 fear not, the fed will be happy to take the other side of that trade.

Only hit the button once, so I don’t know why the multiple posts.

16, you’ll figure out the buttons next time. Are you long treasuries by chance?

  19. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 1:05 PM

@3/5/6 & 16 – Fine but I’ll bet you a million dollars that you hit refresh twice and don’t know how this website works. Would you like to take *that* trade?

  20. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 1:07 PM

I doubt very much Nassim recommended shorting Treasurys. Buying puts, maybe.

not 3/5/7 but I will take your bet. This website seems to have a shitty backend (or perhaps it’s on my end) as my posts usually get repeated and I change windows after I click submit because it takes a good three minutes for the comment to finally upload and so there’s no way I’m hitting refresh.
Bess, is there any explanation for this as I’m fairly certain it’s not my own idiocy?

  27. Posted by Bess Levin | February 4, 2010 at 1:26 PM

@26/27- it’s a little bit of both. On the one hand, we’ve been experiencing more trouble than usual w the back-end (which is affecting people’s ability to comment, our ability to post, etc). On the other, you’ll notice that most people don’t have problems with the double/triple posts. Hit ‘post comment’ and then, before hitting it again, see if it’s gone up.

I have the exact same experience as 26/27. Hit comment only once, page takes forever to refresh, usually times out, close the window, come back to DB and find multiple posts. Seems to work best if you click “post comment” and then immediately close the window without any waiting.

  33. Posted by NakedShort | February 4, 2010 at 1:36 PM

    @30/pfluger
    Exactly. gulp.

  34. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 1:36 PM

@33 no. the only time it double posts is if you’ve hit the ‘post comment’ button more than once. hit it once, open another tab and see if it posted. if it did? don’t hit ‘post comment’ again.

  35. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 1:48 PM

The problem with wars nowadays is that a real good one, with the potential to stimulate the economy, is either a) over too soon or 2) possibly destructive of the whole world. On the other hand, your typical asymmetrical war, where you employ say 100,000 troops and hundreds of billions in technical surveillance and drones to keep a handful opium farmers and religious zealots on the run, just adds to the deficit.

  36. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 1:56 PM

Just a coincidence maybe, but as DB has become stickier this week in terms of commenting (and apparently posting too) I’ve notice that a trojan has tried to download from the site twice in three days.

  37. Posted by guest | February 4, 2010 at 2:19 PM

i use two windows, one to post, the other to refresh until i see post, then close out ‘posting’ window.

Agreed. My AV software has been whining about “processing threats” with alarming frequency while on DB over the past couple days.
I even tried closing the other browser windows normally reserved for porn, but DB is still slower than Trig Palin. Yeah, I know…I’m surely going to hell for that one.
