This sounds to me that they are simply institutionalizing the abuse that goes on at many banks. Instead of doing the hard work of creating a successful business model that doesn’t rely on destroying people they simply take the short-cut of cranking up the abuse and calling it an insightful, healthy process. I hope someone inside that place figures out a way to sue the firm and tear it to pieces.

The sad thing is that these guys are nothing but paper pushers. They trade and do investments. They don’t really do anything all that interesting such as creating things or coming up with new and innovative ideas.

Hello,
I’ve seen a few blogs reporting about the horrible nature of being an employee at Bridgewater in Wesport. Has anyone had an experience or have knowledge about Admin Assist positions there? Do Admin Assists receive the same kind of treatment as other employees in roles more closely related to trading and investment decisions?

Article and comments above are dead-on. The place is a cult – people are “trained” to be demeaning, rude and downright nasty to other workers. Their internal “policies” and “culture” kill any chance of having teamwork. Internally people will not or are afraid to make any concise decisions and prefer to thrive on broadcasting tapes and recordings when they upset and fire people. I left before they had this opportunity. They have a recognized internal notion of “bridgewater tax”, meaning that what should take hours takes weeks due to policy and working with the proper level of “transparency”. When confronted the more knowing people there will use techniques such as “deflection” to pass blame to an unsuspecting soul who will be thoroughly reamed. If you value your health and sanity stay away. If this is the person you want to be have at it.

I met with this little shi@ named Charles, a kid who was there 18 months, clearly been brainwash into the dumb philosophy that Ray spills out. They want “YES” people/robots. They think there way is better than industry standard. There infrastructure is old and outdated and so is the management style. They want to hire kids who don’t know any better and to morph them into RAY Jr. clones, only to find out the rest of the world is not like them or practices their dumb cult like tendencies.

Charles is lucky, not to get his A$$ beat down! How is that for open and honest communication.

The Bridgewater style of management dates back to management style of 30 years ago… Demoralizing employees, rule by fear! There is no innovation nor inner growth their.

I am sure the SEC will be raiding their company soon, same as to the other Hedge funds in the area!

I interviewed at Bridgewater Associates and the experience I had was like dealing with dysfunctional children. They do not care about your resume, background, etc. all they care about is how you would fit into their cult. Not culture, but cult!

The interviewer asked me to tell him about myself, as I did he started to play with his phone and not really listening to what I had to say. Right then I knew this was not the place for me as they are a bunch of children “brainwashed” into following some dumb rules.

They live on bullying people with intimidation and fear. If you mess up something, they live on publicly humiliating you. They record all of their meetings so when the time comes they will broadcast it to everyone to hear the reaming, screaming that you get. They call it learning.

I found out every year there is a 35-40% turnover of employees. Within the first 18 months that you are there they will see if you can crack and push your buttons.

It is not a good place to work, nor will any of their “teachings” be transferred over to real companies.

Had an interview with them, nothing like the material they advertise. Interviewer picked away at my resume and often cut me off. Constantly interrupt you to see how you react. They say they want people who are willing to conceptualize, explain, descibe, but in practice (at least from my interview) they are looking for people willing to take a lot of negative comments cloaked as questions. If you want to have to explain things over and over, this is the place to go. Possibly I just didn’t hit it off with the interviewer, I hope you have a better experience.

Hi there,

I’m doing some research on BWater. I found this site that makes them sound horrible but I have not had any of the same experiences that other people have had, at least not yet. It sounds like working for Dr. House, being called an idiot but getting to the route of the sickness, hopefully in 30 min. or less. So far, on both interviews, I have only spoken to women but they were all very nice, however did insist on being very honest with people and self reflective. I have not had the pleasure to interview with guys as of yet, but maybe on the third interview. I’ve interviewed twice with them and going to my third interview. I’m wondering if anybody knows how many interviews there are with this company, is the third the last one and what do they do on the third one exactly? Reading some of the statements, I don’t know if they are joking with their answers or they actually did these sorts of things on the interviews. I’m hoping they are kidding, don’t want to make a pass at Ray’s wife, although my husband would be into that.

In theory, the principles are a work of art. In theory, they would work in an ideal society where there were truly no hierarchical structures holding individuals back. In theory, the world would be a better place if everyone was like this, but it ISN’T. The term “machine” is thrown around loosely, but Bridgewater is operated by people and unfortunately this is where the machine collapses. There IS hierarchy, while less than other hedge funds, and overall Bridgewater is not what it is on paper. A culture that prides itself on being organic, is instead excessively anal and snobbish. As the company is expanding, it’s getting worse. It’s a shame because Ray Dalio has a great vision, but I don’t think it’s being executed well.
