Earlier this morning, we mentioned that Anna Chapman, one of the ten Russian spies arrested by the Justice Department yesterday, claimed to have worked as a “slave” at Barclays. According to the bank, she lies! A spokesman has just informed us, “We ran a check and have no record of anyone named Anna Chapman working at Barclays at the time mentioned on the LinkedIn page – August 2004 to July 2005.”

Did you check Lehman?
Apparently Anna is quite known in the entrepreneur circles in NYC, she initiates contact with many asking for help with her business and website NYCrentals.com. She was a big networker. Her site supposedly generated $2 mil. per year.
From the info I am gathering thus far I am sure the FBI will be interviewing many NYC residents, and I have a hunch a few married men may have slept with her along the way….
Did you check Spitzer?
Oh, she worked Barclays alright.
- Not Noted Hooker Fucker
Barclays – Nope no Anna Chapman. Absolutely, positively not.
Reporter – How about an Anya Chapman?
Barclays – Ummmm…..lemme get back to you on that.

Dollink, zees honey trap plot eez so over-zee-top. All she has
doing is work like massuese and zen she nails Al Gore eenstantly.
I think we shouldn’t criminalize this. (And Elliot Spitler agrees) The loss of her assets would damage The Summer of Recovery. We must give her TARP money and make sure she remains solvent!
in soviet russia…car drive you!
Ms Chapman, how do you plead to the charges of A) International Espionage and B) lying on your LinkedIn resume?
@9 I see what you did there…you stole that from @34 here http://dealbreaker.com/2010/06/which-financier-was-liaising-with-the-russian-spies/
Give her a pair of shoes for chrissake.
@1 barclays bank is nothing like barcap, let alone an affiliation with lehman. bank teller with barclays at best
@13 seems to be having trouble grasping the fact that she was a Russian spy, and as CEO of a shell corporation for whatever replaced the KGB, she was probably a little bit more of a baller than your typical Barcap Analyst…
@11 I see what you did there…you buried your head in your ass while this was happening:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakov_Smirnoff
not to mention all of the contemporary references in comedy tv (i.e. Family Guy, etc.)
and not to mention that in almost every comment section of any post talking about Russians, some reader has made a similar comment…
see @9/Jacquof Mussef’s “In Soviet Russia, Cynthia Murphy liaise you!” in http://dealbreaker.com/2010/06/which-financier-was-liaising-with-the-russian-spies/
Now take a lap and try to keep up
-Not the Joke Briefer
@15…Excellent observation of what is called a “meta-joke” wherein referential jokes are imbedded within the over-arching joke.
~The Joke Briefer
@15 I was icing my bros in Branson, MO way before that Yakov guy.
And unless cinema has been lying to me all these years, Russian spies always go by pseudonyms like “Ivana Humpalot.” The Barcap HR people need to do a more extensive search…that is, if they can be bothered getting off the phone with their friends and waddling over to the employee file cabinets.
@11/15 – I spent the entire morning on the can and therefore did not read earlier posts.
-Z. Kouwe
So, let me get this straight. A Russian spy may have lied on her LinkedIn profile? Never would have thought of that. Russian spies always seemed so forthright and kind.
Hannah the Montana in picture, yes? Niiice. We make the sexy time now?
“We ran a check and have no record of anyone named Anna Chapman working at Barclays at the time mentioned on the LinkedIn page – August 2004 to July 2005.”……..this can be explained.
After 9-11 the paperwork started to be a pain in the ass just to hire interns. So, we would pay NYU undergrads cash out of pocket, no fuss, no muss, no records. Now at UBS, there’s a ton of paperwork, but they work for free/credit.
Slave. No payroll records required for slaves. Thought everyone understood that.
Thank you, Jonah.
Strastye my Comrades,
Of course there are No records…she snuck in and burned her files prior to leaving barc… its SOP, “leave no trail”. Its what I’d d..would have done had I been a spy for the Russian Federation.
By the way @14.. the KGB was replaced by the FSB when the cold war ended.. it has mainly an internal security role (like the UK’s MI5, as compared to MI6 which is operational overseas) , the Russian Foreign Intelligence service is called the SVR.
Now , since I’m so well informed where is my “honey trap”.. davai pashli.
- A Cunning Linguist.
Well, her maiden name was Кущенко (Kushchenko, Kuschenko, Kous(h)chenko – spelling may be different) before she married to a mr Chapman in London. It might be worthwile to look for a maiden slave :)) with this name in Barclays files…
Well could you really have expected a spy to tell the truth in the first place?
BVP5av Awesome blog post. Much obliged.
