Bonus Watch ’10: Citi

Did you know that last year Citi was a “market leader”? From the mailbag:

Citi was supposed to report bonus numbers today for analysts in the institutional clients group, but they have once again delayed giving the numbers. This is the third time they have delayed numbers. We were first supposed to receive them June 30 and the day came and passed and then July 20th came and went. And today was the third time that they gave no advanced warning that bonus numbers were not coming. Last year we were given our numbers early because we were a “market leader” and this year we are being a “market follower” and waiting to see what our competitors pay. MS and apparently CS gave numbers yesterday and as you know, JP put out numbers last Friday.

“market leading” – the new killing it?

  3. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 1:56 PM

I often struggle with the choice of buying a share or a Slurpee. Slurpee’s do cost more but with shares of C I get a lil slice of Vik

@2 yes but only if said with air quotes.

@mailbag writer: when a girl says “give me YOUR number and I’ll call you;” do really think she’s going to call? face the facts kid. the number is zero. they are hoping you’ll find another job before they have to tell you in writing…

Bess, how come we never cuddle any more?

  7. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 2:01 PM

Why are these numbers (and similar from other banks) coming out now? Aren’t they usually announced and paid Q4 or Q1?

  8. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 2:03 PM

@4 – what are fourth year blogger numbers?

  9. Posted by Bess Levin | August 3, 2010 at 2:05 PM

@8 more than your take-home, sugar tits.

“being a ‘market follower’” is the new “the check is in the mail”

Heard that Citi will soon have a dress code for market leading analysts that will include sheepskin chaps and cowboy hats. Suggested image below:

Ms Levin; Lazaridis of RIM has a mug only a mother could love and the company is called RIM. Any shot that you’ll do a caption contest with him and his new Torch?

Christ, it looks like Iwo Jima in here!

bess is increasingly hubristic…watch out dear, nemesis is right round the corner

    @14 What’s up, Vik?

  16. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 2:25 PM

What are ‘i can suck my own dick’ numbers?

Citi can blow me. They single handedly killed my mentor, causing him to develop extremely high blood pressure while he was doing massive unsecured loans to third world governments. His doctor I believe advised him to quit. He ended up dying on a beach of a heart attack soon after he left Citi.

With Debrahlee Lorenzana off to chase her 15 minutes of fame (largely over already if it weren’t for my dragging her out of oblivion yet again) I guess the boys at Citi are looking for another reason to come to work in the morning.

  19. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 2:34 PM

@17 how’d they do it using only one hand?

  20. Posted by aimlessjonah | August 3, 2010 at 2:42 PM

@11 Best part is the brass star…Deputy Sheriff of Marketleaderville??

  21. Posted by Bess Levin | August 3, 2010 at 2:44 PM

@14 actually I’m just increasingly not interested in giving dbags taken by their own “wit” a free pass, most especially the ones who tell me how much I/DB suck, on the reg, yet are still here, reading and commenting. but pleased, continue leaving vaguely threatening/creepy comments (“dear” was a nice touch).

  22. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 2:45 PM

    “advanced warning”
    “day came and passed”

    Vikles, that you?

  23. Posted by guest | August 3, 2010 at 2:56 PM

@22 what’s wrong with “came and passed?”

  24. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 3:06 PM

Bess – I like your stuff but you have been getting very defensive lately…think this job is slowly getting to you, maybe you need nicer folks in your life.

    A well intended commenter

  25. Posted by Bess Levin | August 3, 2010 at 3:12 PM

@23 nah, I have plenty of nice people in my life, I’m merely responding to a proliferation of ass-hat in comments (although actually the offenders are about 3 people, leaving their “insights” here and in my email. maybe just time for a restraining order).

  26. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 3:21 PM

    @25 I agree with 24 (I think that’s who you meant).

Set up a donation page for gimlets/massages in the office?

    Another well intended commentator

  27. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 3:22 PM

    @ 21, 25 less adverbs please

  28. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 4:50 PM

@14 Do you know what “nemesis” means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an ‘orrible cunt… me.

@ 28 Good work chap. Snatch is the most under-quoted/contextualized-by-article movie on DB. Again, nice work.

  30. Posted by StopSayingSovietRussia | August 3, 2010 at 6:34 PM

@21 “dbags”, BL’s nickname for DB commenters?
    - Said with air quotes

  31. Posted by pmco | August 3, 2010 at 7:32 PM

@25: those dbags are just sad little boys who really, really like you but don’t have the social skills or mental acuity to successfully communicate that = they are indeed creeps and likely a hot mess of unresolved psychological issues. I think your only course of action is to forcibly restrain them.

  32. Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2010 at 7:52 PM

It’s unbelievable how douchey the comments on DB are. Kid just gets his bonus delayed 3 times without warning for a total of 6 weeks, essentially getting paid a 12-month bonus for 14.5 months of 60-80 hr/week work. Delaying the bonus is one thing but not being forthcoming about it especially in the way that Citi handled it is just unprofessional

  33. Posted by kevin | August 3, 2010 at 11:41 PM

this should be embarassing to Citi. What is worse is that they will come out with numbers lower than the street. Hope they lose all their good people to this mess and someone is held accountable

  34. Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2010 at 8:48 AM

so the news is that there is no news?

  35. Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2010 at 4:48 PM

    Numbers are out today…

  36. Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2010 at 5:02 PM

    what are the numbers??
