Admittedly the idea to convey the image of a “cool” investment banker by putting him on a skateboard was a bit of a miss but making the event a tailgate, before this weekend’s Duke v Alabama game? Inspired.

A black guy wearing a suit on a skateboard.

    WTF?

  5. Posted by MisterB | September 15, 2010 at 7:52 PM

Wait, so he’s a rapper for goldman AND a skateboarder for BoA?

    This guy has talent…

  6. Posted by Hardflip | September 15, 2010 at 7:58 PM

Cause black people excel at all sports right? Diversity and coolness. Killed two birds with one stone.

Those wheels are too small. Always rolled on 50mm Spitfires myself. Additionally the person obviously does not know how to do noseslides/nose-bluntslides. Also now wear and tear on those shoes…hell the shine is still on them. This ad screams that he is not a real skater.

Did he have to return the skateboard to the UST after the shoot?

It’s Duke. They’re a basketball school. Black people play basketball. And skateboard.

  19. Posted by Guest | September 15, 2010 at 9:46 PM

Would have been a lot cooler if they had a laxer party with prostitutes on the poster. Then you’d KNOW they get Duke…

    I hate you

I wonder if Duke students thought that was an advert for a new skating rapper who steals from Men’s Warehouse…you know, cause Duke is 100% White, WASP, Anti-Semetic, and Racist.

Sort of shocked that every post that came from someone who knew their shit on skateboarding had several “likes” tagged. I guess I am sort of shocked as most skaters at my high school went on to become waiters, not work in finance. Not hating just an observation.

duke is a faggot school… all the kids whose parents went to ivy league schools whose daddy wouldn’t let them go disgrace his alma mater because sonny took it in the ass too many times in high school… those fags go to duke

  29. Posted by Slkdflk | September 16, 2010 at 11:57 AM

Well this skater in high school had a excellent gpa, took a few AP classes his senior year, and is actually not a retard. Come to think of it, a lot of skaters in my area went into the military except one friend that became an EE.

  34. Posted by Milksteak | September 16, 2010 at 3:51 PM

Most do, same with snowboarding, amount of time you need to dedicate doesn’t necessarily work well with traditional work hours. That being said, so long as you’re not putting in 80-100 hours a week you can fit it in on weekends.

Wait for winter to roll around, hopefully the bro-nacular will go up once the season starts

  35. Posted by Hardflip | September 16, 2010 at 3:51 PM

Guess you did not learn how to skateboard to the office in a suit.

  36. Posted by the_jackal | September 16, 2010 at 4:22 PM

i think Merrill is risking too much with this advertisement. you know how much trouble they had the last time they hired a black guy (Stan O’Neal).

  37. Posted by poopneck trader | September 16, 2010 at 4:29 PM

really a recruiting event a football tailgate? ya if you want to hire kids whose priorities are so misaligned as to go to a recruiting event instead of getting fucked up and trying to get laid. what’s next, a frat party recruiting event? then you could get the biggest douche-nozzles in the school….

  38. Posted by poopneck trader | September 16, 2010 at 4:31 PM

    **at a football tailgate**

  39. Posted by Dead_Cat | September 16, 2010 at 5:34 PM

Merrill Lynch would officially like to announce its preference to employ those kids who smoked a lot of weed and spent 6 hours a day failing to perform basic tricks on a child’s toy.

Is there anything more embarassing than a skateboarder older than about 15? I mean I get it if you’re good enough to go pro and be in commercials, videogames etc. Or if you’re a paedophile and want teenaged girls to think you’re their age but somehow more mature. But otherwise, it’s not something you usually associate with a positive image of ambitious young businesspeople.

i skated when i was younger and nothing says barney like looking like a gddmn beach boy holding your hand out in front like that.

90% of people at BAML now are legacy MER… i don’t think this is a “historical turnover” issue, more like “2008 let’s swap out our investment bank for their actually good one” issue
