Bernie Madoff: Big Fan Of Mini-Bar Booze

In the market for some tiny bottles of low-grade vodka touched by a Ponzi scheme? Today’s your lucky day.

Convicted Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff robbed the wealthy of $65 billion — and was a liquor collector. Of mini-bar booze, that is. “[Madoff] was clearly not a connoisseur, or a serious wine collector,” said Kimberly Janis, director at Morrell Fine Wine Auctions, which will offer for sale 58 lots from Madoff’s booze collection next Wednesday.
One lot is a selection of 2-ounce bottles of Smirnoff vodka, Bombay gin and Grand Marnier liqueur. The estimate: $10 to $20.

    wouldn’t buy any of the bottles he is auctioning now, as they are all mostly likely 100% water. I hear he had been taking the real alcohol out for years and slowly replacing it with water. Every now and again, when he got a new bottle in he would spread it out among the existing bottles, but eventually there are just too many existing bottles to keep the illusion up. It’s pretty complicated.
