Protestors are calling the event “Bank Transfer Day” and are encouraging people nationwide to participate November 5. The Facebook page for the event states the following: “Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will ALWAYS remember the 5th of November!! If the 99% removes our funds from the major banking institutions on or by this date, we will send a clear message and give the 1% a taste of the fear that we experience every day when we aren’t able to pay for our rent, food, medication, utilities, student loans, etc.” So far over 6,500 people have RSVP’ed for the event. By their line of thinking, the 99% will remove their 1% from the banks, so banks will only lose 1% of their deposits. That'll show 'em….

  2. Posted by Guest | October 7, 2011 at 3:47 PM

I think they meant they would withdraw their parents' funds from the banks.

  3. Posted by PermaGuestII | October 7, 2011 at 3:47 PM

Starting a bank run. Great idea.

Maybe they should yell "fire" in a crowded theater, too.

  4. Posted by Oxymoronic | October 7, 2011 at 3:48 PM

Are they offering to immediately repay their student loans, credit cards and other debt or is that part of the banking world that they can somehow live with?

  5. Posted by I'm Ron Burgundy? | October 7, 2011 at 3:49 PM

If they don't even have money for rent what money are they withdrawing?

Attention all muggers and street thugs – Get ready for "Bank Transfer Day" on Nov 5th. It'll be like taking candy from a baby (or a protester in this case).

6500 of Obama’s kids? I’m sure the banks are quivering in fear over them withdrawing their combined $316.87.

(6,500 x $83.76 avg. deposit per protester) less (2,300 overdraft fees x $30 per overdraft fee) = the end of the financial system as we know it….

I like your enthusiasm, when can you start.

remove your worthless ($7 DD) account -> bank loses no revenue -> bank no longer needs the support staff to deal with your shit -> bank fires the least educated employees -> banks profitability & margins rise.

See, these protesters are simply trying to make banks healthier.

"Great service!" "They really listened to my needs!" "I felt I could trust their advice!"… These are just some of the actual customer comments received by my good friends at GoldLine. Fellow protestors, I personally have used GoldLine for my investments for over 100 years. Like you, I have a great distrust of fiat money backed by unscrupulous governments and too big to fail banks. That's why I will be in Zuccotti Park on November 5th to join forces with you and help you convert your worthless paper currency into something you can touch and feel, SOLID GOLD! GoldLine has been in business for over 5years and recently while G. Gordon Liddy was taking a nap at Rosland Capital, our experts at GoldLine snuck in and stole over $500 million of rare gold bullion coins not touched by human hands since the Spanish Armada. This can all be yours at our wholesale, direct to consumer rate of $36,000/Pound, that's just $1500/oz, well below the retail or even spot price available to other investors. Want you join me, in owning GOLD?

  55. Posted by Will | October 11, 2011 at 6:08 PM

Im pretty sure the eternal student loans and the usury-level interest on credit card debt are some of the things theyre protesting. But to know that youd have to actually pay attention instead of making lame jokes.

  56. Posted by melissa | October 15, 2011 at 7:59 PM

I was hoping to read these comments and actually get some information about the impact of a real potential bank run of sorts, but it seems the goal of everyone (using a fake name) is to be funny. Are all of the people on this comment thread really so uninformed ? Is this a joke to you? Really? Do you really think its ok for folks who have worked all of their lives to loose their retirement when the C-levels are taking home million dollar bonuses? Is that ok with you?

Wow, melissa, you have a lot of spunk in you….it just so happens I'm looking for a new secretary….only catch is, I can only afford to pay you in Honda Civic miles.

You get 2 miles of riding around in my car for every hour of work. Please fill it up when you return it to me, though.
