As many of you likely know, most reporters are assigned to a beat– one subject to cover for their respective publication, from which they rarely stray. Bond reporters report about bonds, Fed reporters write about the Fed, private equity reporters write stories about private equity. Some people are generalists, but even your average generalist covering “Wall Street” will generally not cover things like medical malpractice or the Middle East because, you know, those things do not actually fall under the category of, “Wall Street.” As you may also know, Charles Gasparino is not your average reporter, and is not bound by the traditional definition of “Wall Street,” which would explain his most recent investigative piece.

Reporteth CG:

Richie Incognito is fighting back. The Miami Dolphins offensive lineman who was suspended by his team for allegedly bullying teammate Jonathan Martin fully intends to return to pro football as a free agent in the 2014 season, people close to him tell Fox News…What’s more, Incognito has hired high-profile public relations firm Sitrick & Co. to mount a public defense and rebut allegations he bullied Martin, while his attorneys have turned over information to the National Football League that they believe shows Martin to be a troubled player both on and off the field, who at times made inflammatory and vulgar comments to Incognito…

In a statement to Fox News, Incognito’s attorney Mark Schamel of the law firm of Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, said: “The coarse and unacceptable comments and text messages that were sent to Jonathan Martin were of the same poor taste as those sent by him. All of these communications were provided to Ted Wells and the NFL investigation. What they show is banter between friends, not bullying.” Schamel added: “Jonathan Martin sent text messages to Richie Incognito which included threats to send someone over to Richie Incognito’s home with a ‘tranquilizer gun and sandpaper condoms’ to homosexually rape him. Jonathan Martin sent another that said he would ‘kill (Richies’s) whole family.’ There was another where Jonathan Martin indicated he would ejaculate in Richie’s face.”

When half your financial reporting includes discussions of the various business leaders you would/should/could "beat the hell out of", this isn't really a stretch.

So this beat… It applies to bloggers as well, right? Say, financial bloggers blogging about, oh I don't know, fashion?

Oh… And that whole 'sandpaper condoms' tag. Would the scratchy side of the sandpaper be on the inside or the outside? Think our boy Incognito might be surprised to find out which.

Charlie is the Richie Icognito of Fox Business. We were once both in makeup chairs and he told me he would rape me and paint my face with his DNA if I took one second of his airtime. He just likes to kid around.

A man as strong as powerful as Charlie should be a natural in reporting sports. His first show should be on his workout regiment. He will be a second coming of Jay Glazer.
