Maybe you make too strong a distinction between tax code and Shari’a law. While both types of opinion are an argument from authority, and in the absence of contrary evidence operate as the final vocabulary for all parties concerned, the claims are not unwarranted. They are rigorous in gathering and framing the supporting information. It's not always wrong to put faith in experts who are arguing their expertise, who have no clear incentive to lie, and who are closely connected with the relevant authorities. At least in cases where their expertise is a static social apparatus.
It's actually kinda cool. You can negotiate practically anything, and sometimes even just kind of do stuff in the moment that you never agreed to pay for, and it goes by without much argument.
