@2:24--Retard, the big deal is that cutting out the "date" part makes it a crime, and not a victimless one. If you really think that the sexually abused 22-year-old was the one hustling the billionaire governor, then I'm sure you'd be perfectly all right if your daughter grew up to lead the same kind of life. After all, you meet a really high quality group of people when you're a call girl--those hotel encounters are practically informational interviews! She 's being called a hooker and a whore because of her occupation, not because she's a misunderstood entrepreneur.

Arguing that something is "natural" or "biological" is a really convenient argument when you'd like a reason that supports your own preferences and can't be proved one way or another.
It is impossible to separate the culture of Wall Street from the nature of the work being done there--basically a chicken-and-egg question. Is the culture of Wall Street predominantly male because men thrive in that environment, or did men create an environment in which they were more likely to thrive?
Even leaving aside the fact that there's nothing beyond anecdotal evidence to say that women are naturally more collaborative and men are naturally more competitive, who's to say that, if everyone were open to it, a more collaborative environment couldn't be a positive thing? Maybe fewer of you would burn out if your institutions focused on supporting you and provided for your overall wellness. Maybe you'd be better parents and spend more time at home if there was no career penalty for doing so.
Isn't it maybe just a little too unbelievably convenient that "the way things are" is exactly the same as "the way you want things to be"?

@11:36: I think it's important to let go of the idea that there's any independent standard for "the way things are." Cavemen didn't organize themselves into cubicles; this is a system that was created over time and as such often have systemic difficulties.
Wall Street was definitely founded by and for men, but things have changed. I have immense faith in the power of you selfish bastards getting exactly what you want out of life--if you all decided that it was important to you that women have leadership roles in your firms and that your daughters have the chance to excel in traditionally male fields without having to be ball-busting bitches or sleeping their way to the top, I bet you could find a way.

@ Random Banker
The best cure for wanting to marry an investment banker is to date a bunch of investment bankers. I've actually found that applying my own brains towards my own job while the getting's good is even more fun. I'll end up in Scarsdale one way or another, but it would be sweet to have it all in my name.

I work in publishing, unfortunately as one of those bright young things who have no trust fund to fall back on. But with sample sales and fabulous cooking skills, deprivation is not the name of the game. We're all quite lucky compared to most.

If you want a pair of basic black wedges, you can get them even cheaper; Prada Sport is a waste of money for a secondary label. For me, Louboutins aren't about anything but loving the shoes themselves. If you're determined to get them, get one of the basic black pumps so it's not completely impractical and take good care of them.
HOWEVER. Not to sound patronizing, but as I re-read this--you're sixteen! There is something vaguely inappropriate in a blatantly sexual, very adult red soled stiletto on someone who still has a learner's permit. Not to mention, I can't imagine you have many events to attend that require a 5" heel. I think you would be better served at this point by taking that money and buying some good quality clothing (a few years out of college, I'm still wearing some of the Theory I bought in high school) and waiting on Louboutins until you can really get some use out of them. They're not inherently a waste of money, but you'll have a lot of intermediate purchases to make to get you through the next six years before you get there.

I'm sure they did it on purpose, if only given how hard NYC prosecutes people who infringe on the I<3NY concept. Kind of clever, expect they'll receive a cease-and-desist letter from NYmag any moment.
