Steny Hoyer (D-MD): "Hey guys, we should do this thing. I mean, Warren Duffett, I mean Buffett, he said.. HE SAID IF WE DO IT RIGHT, if we do it RIGHT, we will MAKE A LOT OF MONEY! So let's pass this bill."
Wow, really? Thanks Steny.

@3 - Obviously it will pass, but it will not pass by a large margin because leadership will allow as many Nays as possible considering the overwhelming unpopularity and controversy surrounding the bill.

Best line of the day from the Dick Fuld hearing: When asked whether the Treasury (and by consequence, GS allies) screwed Fuld and Lehman over by not offering a federally backed loan (bailout) as was done for others, Fuld responded: "Until the day they put me in the ground, I will wonder."

Many hedge funds use MS as their primary clearer. Instead of fleeing MS for a better bank to do the job, hedge funds do what they do best: HEDGE. That is to say, they short the heck out of MS stock. So in case it becomes another Bear, HFs' frozen funds will pale in comparison to the massive profits they will collect upon MS's collapse.

Bess - If you're going to quote Tropic Thunder (which was hilarious), please quote correctly. So it should read "swinging past your knees". Thanks.

All - However pleasant you think the Schadenfreude would feel if GS collapsed, the aftermath would feel far far worse. The reverberations of such a disaster would not end at the proverbial Main St. As dire as it might sound, the truth of the matter is that an end to GS would really mark the end of the USA itself.

10%??!!! They cannot be serious. This is ridonkulous. I guess the good news it that I'm sure it won't affect the majority of DB readers since they probably don't fall into the high earners category.
