Bair saw this crisis from the beginning. As assistant secretary of the treasury she tried to put some control in the wave of predatory lending that was emerging in 2001. She was ignored, especially by her bosses and Greenspan.
Bottom line, she has earned the admiration of Democrats in Congress. It will be hard to push her out without causing some trouble for Geithner's nomination. I do think this story has been planted by Republican congressional staff and somebody at Citi.
And @3, where did you get those "stats" since I'd love to review your source.

The source is vague. It doesn't say how the loan modifications were originated (no mention of FDIC or Bair).
But a general point about mods:
The problem always was that the principal part of the loan was too high, and no loan mod other than a cram-down can fix that. Have there been no cram-downs yet in residential?

Swanson worked for the SEC until 2006. He married Shana in 2007 (her second marriage). Swanson was the assistant director in the SEC's Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations' market oversight unit in Washington.

When people like Pitt and Cox are the heads of the SEC, is not even really necessary for a CEO to call people like Schumer. I exclude Donaldson from the list because he did try to bring some reform to the SEC, but got fired for it in mid-2005. Donaldson did fail to be effective on the naked short-selling issue, but that's not why he was fired.

The alleged self-investigation will require many paper shredders. Can the FBI get involved and get a US court to issue an injunction to stop this show?
And Cox has just made an important contribution to the muddled metaphor index. So sad that the creator of the index is no longer with us to witness it.

At the end of the article is paints Andres (Corina's husband) and his father in law as victims. It even hints that they might be planning to sue the SEC. SO it's definitely a PR piece planted by Andres.
But it has a lot of interesting biographical info.

Dealbreaker has become a total wasteland since Carney departed. It now reads like a support group for the KKK. This is not what Wall Street is about, so I don't see this DB enterprise lasting much longer. It was sort of fun while it lasted.
