I must say, socks with sandals can be a matter of practicality. The first time I wore my brand new Raf Simons/Doc Martens gladiator boots/sandals/whatever, the patent leather was so precise and stiff that it sliced into my shins and ankles after a day of walking the streets of New York and running up and down subway steps.
Then I discovered that good socks—maybe a pair of loose, black decorative Commes des Garçons women's socks—are great for the total look and, more importantly, protect my feet from total massacre.

I'd have to agree with @1:
Trop is an actual word in French, and its "p" is silent, as opposed to the "p" in "Tropez."
The meaning of trop is "too much." Abbreviations and malapropisms are cute when they're accidentally or purposely punny or funny—neither of which is the case here.
