How many billions were in the bailout? What happened that caused them to need so much money so fast? Margin calls? Fleeing business? Something else?

Can JPM absorb Bear? Who, if anyone, is next (LEH or MER)?

What will the collateral damage and blowback be?

Russia said their cease fire will allow them to keep shooting at whoever, so it seems a dicey cease fire at best.

Expect unsettled conditions for quite a while.

I'm guessing that they and anyone else with the last name of Madoff in the NYC area will need (and probably already have) full time round the clock bodyguards.

Maybe he IS a rich guy with mob connections.

He didn't do it alone.

de Borchgrave in Washington Times has more

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/27/ignorance-is-not-bliss/

"A Greek-American friend of Mr. Markopoulos, now in Switzerland, wrote in his blog, "He nailed Madoff, listing the back-door marketing and financing schemes as if he were an insider. But the SEC did not respond. Powerful political voices ordered the SEC not to proceed. I am not naming names because libel laws mostly favor the criminal in Europe, and their names will never get past libel lawyers. The largest investors were not Jewish charities as was reported by New York newspapers, but French, Spanish and Swiss private banks." "

Get with it, grandpa. Major corporations are using Twitter to do tech support and monitor how their products are doing. Some uber-geeks now use Twitter Search instead of Google because it's more timely and more accurate.

Ask your 15 yo granddaughter to teach you how to get off AOL and your dialup account so you can start Twittering. Heh. :-)

Our world has become so weird that I've no idea if you're joking about the chewing tobacco or not.

I mean, last week Boston Latin, an elite prep school, issued a statement saying saying there were no vampires on their campus. Seriously.

Satire is becoming increasingly hard to do.

Gordon Brown is wildly unpopular, Obama enjoys high ratings. And his Administration isn't seen as corrupt and / or incompetent.

The far right BNP will probably do rather well in the elections. This should be a matter of concern to all unless you would rejoice in seeing, say, David Duke's party gain serious political power and seats in Congress.

Right. Like that'll help. Just walk into bathroom and text the info (with or without clever code words.) Or wait until after work and meet them at a bar.

But I am cheered to hear of screaming hysterical panic among the former Masters of the Universe.

I'm guessing that honest hedge funds aren't doing this. Why? Because they don't need to. It seems to be a truism of business that weasels attract weasels (and honest firms attract honest people)

Scarface. A morality tale about power, crime, and wealth.

Con Air. So they can start working on how to escape once in custody.

Harry Potter. Because they're going to need all the magic spells and potions they can get.
