Air France ruled that only male cabin crew were allowed to serve Dominique Strauss-Kahn, currently fighting accusations he attempted to rape a New York hotel maid. The claim was reported Thursday by Le Parisien newspaper, which also says lawyers for the former IMF chief’s alleged victim, Nafissatou Diallo, are soliciting testimony from female flight attendants at the national carrier, who may have been subjected to inappropriate behavior by the Frenchman.”Air France has a few hundred complaints from clients, employees, crew members who met the man suspected of having abused your client Madame Diallo,” the letter alleged, adding, “it was decided by Air France that ‘only male employees should be deployed in the first class cabin when this client [Strauss-Kahn] was traveling.’ French magazine Le Point reported that just moments before Port Authority detectives arrived, he had barked at an attendant, “What a nice ass!” as she prepared the cabin for takeoff. Over the weekend, the Post ran an article claiming that the maid accusing Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault claiming that the woman was not only paid for sexual services from Sofitel guests but continued to “work as a prostitute in a Brooklyn hotel where she was stashed by prosecutors” after the initial DSK allegations. According to the maid’s lawyer such is not the case and his client will be suing the paper for suggesting otherwise. Read more »

At 10:45 a.m., Mr. Strauss-Kahn and his wife, Anne Sinclair, left the brick town house at 153 Franklin Street, where he has been under 24-hour confinement, paying $50,000 a month in rent and much more for required security measures. They got into a black Lexus RX350 sport-utility vehicle. Minutes later, they arrived at the courthouse; Mr. Strauss-Kahn, wearing a light blue tie, looked relaxed as he walked past the photographers. When he was approached by Port Authority officers on the Air France flight, the first thing he said was, “Do you have my cell phone?” The report shows he called the hotel several times, looking for a phone he thought he left behind.

Apparently Strauss-Kahn, who pleaded not guilty this morning, “sat at the defense table between his attorneys, Benjamin Brafman and William Taylor, looking relaxed and with his legs stretched out.” [ABC]

Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, 74, chairman of El-Mex Salines Co [and] the former chairman of the Egyptian American Bank and the Federation of Egyptian Banks, was arrested yesterday after a 44 year-old female maid alleged he attacked her May 29, according to a police department spokesman. Officers were called to the hotel, located in midtown Manhattan, after she informed security of an alleged incident when she went to Omar’s room after he requested tissues. Police charged Omar with sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment, forcible touch and harassment. He allegedly asked the maid for her telephone number and she gave a false one before leaving the room, police said. [Bloomberg]
