WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s former right-hand man has irrevocably destroyed 3500 unpublished files leaked to the whistleblower site including the complete US no-fly list, five gigabytes of Bank of America documents and detailed information about 20 neo-Nazi groups. Daniel Domscheit-Berg, who left WikiLeaks last year after a falling out with Assange, revealed the document destruction in an interview with Der Spiegel. [The Age, earlier]

Almost two months ago, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said that he had information on Bank of America that was so damning it could “take the company down.” At the time, some wondered what Assanage could possibly reveal that would embarrass the bank more than it had already embarrassed itself but figured, hey, he’s gotta have something otherwise why the big sell? So where’s he been with it? Stalling for time and riding high on the build up. Perhaps realizing the jig was up, Assange has now told people he doesn’t actually know if the information he’s got on BAC is in anyway scandalous or even newsworthy. Continue reading »

Julian Assange On His Craft

Last night, a “60 Minutes” interview with Julian Assange, the man behind WikiLeaks, tackled the question of whether the anti-secrecy organization is turning its Klieg light to Wall Street. Assange was asked about the speculation that WikiLeaks has a cache of internal Bank of America documents. “I won’t make any comment in relation to that upcoming publication,” Assange said. There would be a “process of elimination” if we “denied some [banks] and admitted others,” he said. “I think it’s great to have all these banks squirming thinking maybe it’s them,” Assange said.
