Hewlett-Packard: Now Enter The Feds

As we predicted on Friday, federal authorities are getting involved in the Hewlett-Packard mess. The associated press is reporting this afternoon that Hewlett-Packard has said the U.S. Attorney’s Office “informally contacted” the company in connection with the leak investigation that led to private investigators using dishonest means to obtain the phone records of board members and journalists. Presumably, “informally contacted” means H-P got a call, visit or email but not a subpoena.
Between the backdating investigations and now this, the ladies and gents of U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California sure are keeping busy these days.
