What was it that Yahoo fought so hard to keep secret when it asked a court to seal a shareholder lawsuit over the scuttled buyout bid from Microsoft? Now we know that Microsoft Steve Ballmer was willing to pay far more than the $33 per share bid. He offered as $40 a share for Yahoo in January 2007, according to the newly unselaed court papers. News that Yahoo resisted Microsoft's higher bid for a negotiated buyout is sure to boost the critics of Microsoft's management.
Somewhere Carl Icahn, who bought his shares at somewhere around $25 per share, is smiling.
