In 2006, George Soros was eating lunch in the Hamptons when he feasted his eyes on something he thought looked even tastier than his soft-shell crab sandwich: 23 year-old Brazilian soap star Adriana Ferreyr. A "smitten" Soros asked for her phone number and the two dated for the next five years, with Soros promising to buy her her "dream home" at 30 East 85th Street, a convenient two blocks from his own pad. A few days after a contract was signed Soros "heartlessly dumped." Ferreyr was pretty pissed about the situation but, as these things go, the duo "briefly reconciled for a romantic night together" during which Jorge supposedly had the Soroses to "whisper in her ear" that he'd given the keys to her dream house to another one of his gal-pals. That's when this allegedly happened:
"While still in bed, Soros slapped Ferreyr across the face and proceeded to put his hands around her neck in an attempt to choke her," her lawsuit claims. Soros, 80, then allegedly at tempted to strike her with a glass lamp, and though he narrowly missed, it smashed on the floor and she cut her foot, which required three stitches. According to a police report, she called cops, but no charges were filed. Soros "denies throwing the lamp and totally denies trying to choke her," a friend of the billionaire's told The Post. "This is about a lot of money and an apartment." Soros' lawyer, William Zabel, called the lawsuit "frivolous and entirely without merit." "The complaint is riddled with false charges and is obviously an attempt to extract money from my client, who is a very wealthy man," Zabel said...Ferreyr, a child actor who became a star in Brazil on the soap opera "Marisol" in 2002, is studying economics and philosophy at Columbia University. She says she was devastated by the abrupt end of the "serious and meaningful relationship." But she was even more hurt that Soros would "taunt and embarrass her by giving the first apartment to another woman."
In addition to denying the assault allegations, Zabel clarified that while Ferreyr viewed her situation with Soros as a "serious and meaningful relationship," to the defense it was "on-again, off-again and non-exclusive" meaning 1) burn and 2) cut him a break, girlfriend! It was clearly too difficult to keep track of which apartment he'd promised to which lady and not so much a slight against you as it was a mix-up. Moving forward he'll be sure to task at least two portfolio managers with keeping everything straight.
