Sure, the cuts represent approximately 0.268% of the firm's headcount but Goldman employees are a little more special than just a number and their passing, to a lesser bank, should be mourned as such.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has told 98 employees in New York that their jobs are being eliminated, bringing the number of dismissals disclosed to state officials this year to at least 353...Goldman Sachs has been reducing staff as it seeks to weather a slump in trading and deal making.

A whole bunch of senior people were to pack up their things and leave last Thursday. Goldman Sachs laid off about 50 people last week, according to people briefed on the matter but not authorized to speak on the record. The cutbacks have rattled some people in the firm, in part because a number of the employees were managing directors and on the higher end of Goldman’s pay scale.
